Cutlass will always be better for spellcasting, even with all the bloodmage blade boosts. It also doesn't "cost" HP's to spellcast. The downside is using it to attack. The model is Round 1 2 Spell casts, 8 attacks. Same for round 2. So probably, without doing the math, the bloodblade would out-damage the cutlass over 10 turns, but it's eating into your HP for doing so. I would argue the "model" has LONG been thrown out the window, considering SEVERAL items the game has. Heck, most bosses don't even take 10 turns anymore, and they're supposedly supposed to be a 20 turn fight. However, I would probably carry both, and forgo another element TBH, especially if you own Prime Chaos Orb. As for spell damage, I think the bloodmage spell is probably stronger but not 100% sure. Since the spell is "built-in", it gets Ele-Comp, which is around 1.8* damage. Overcharged spells are typically additive, and at BEST +50%. In theory, being in a fire armor means your enemy is hitting you with fire, and thus, is likely to be strong versus fire. So that's why the built in spell is ele comped. So it becomes situational. If you decided to have pyromancer bloodmage in part for it's fire spell, and thus forgo having a fire spell in your inventory, it means you take risks defensively to do so, but probably have more offensive firepower. Prime Chaos Orb decimates this dichotomy. It removes the "decision", since you can just change the elemental resistance, and just forego both having a fire spell in your inventory *and* another weapon of a diff. element, and then you keep both the bloodblade and the cutlass. I believe that's the best way to go, personally, as I kind of do this with darkness/Necromancer/Hollowborn/ etc etc I would say if you feel compelled to choose one or the other, to me that depends on if and how you plan on replenishing MP. If you have ways to just heal MP, and dont mind skipping turns or having "down" turns damage-wise, to then be able to cast again, the cutlass might be the way to go. If you play more in-line with the game's assumed model as outlined above, probably be better to go with the blade.
