The Obsidian Remnant & ShadowHunter Rework!
Hey there, heroes!

Happy Thankstaking week! Hope you're all stuffed full of good food and good times! This week, we return to the Pasgur Ocean, where a new quest can be discovered! The ShadowHunter rework is also up for preliminary testing.

On an island not far from Maar, there is a watchtower fortress, meant to act as a beacon and means of warning for the late occupants of Pelekoa.

Unfortunately, it was not spared from Akriloth's rage. It now sits abandoned and alone, coated in obsidian and filled with remnants of the Great Dragon's rampage...

What treasures does the Obsidian Remnant hold? This new random dungeon can be accessed by sailing to the small island south of Maar in the Pasgur Ocean.

DragonFable's Black Friday Sale continues! This week, the Piles of Currency have returned. You can purchase them from the seasonal shops page in the Book of Lore.

A new House Utility Item has also arrived! The Base Armor Closet is here, and 50% off for its Black Friday Debut! This astounding item holds every base class and variation, allowing you to access and save Dragon, Atealan, and even Retro base classes!

We also have some limited-time items! The Obsidian Relic set of cosmetic Helm, Cape, and Weapon are only available for one week only!

This cool black set is only guaranteed to be around for 1 week, so pick them up while you can!

The House Utility Item 50% off sale also ends with next week's release, so make sure you get those before the sale goes away!

Now, on to the ShadowHunter rework! Hunt the creatures of the night with your arsenal of Sword, Gun, and Tool combos! Please note that this is still a relatively early version of the class and its widget. Changes and updates are very likely to be on the way.

This new version of ShadowHunter completely replaces the existing version. You will need to continue training ShadowHunter to unlock all of the new skills. As part of this rework, you can now also unlock and train ShadowHunter from Symone in Book 3, and not just in Mogloween!

Now, on to the details! ShadowHunter is a versatile class that uses its 3 Combo skills to power up its toolkit. The major mechanics are Combos and Banes.

Combos:

ShadowHunter has three Combo skills that power up its Hunter Combo passive. The Hunter Combo in turn powers up most of its other attacking skills. The Sword combo increases Boost, the Gun combo increases Bonus, and the Tools combo increases Avoidance, building a stack of Hunter Combo when any of these three skills are used. Using a Combo skill multiple times offers more of its buff, and also more base damage on that skill. After using any three of these Combo skills, all three will go on cooldown. Once you've reached a full combo, the skill Prey Seeker will give a buff based on which combo skill was used the most. Other skills will gain effectiveness based on the number of stacks of any combo type.

Banes:

ShadowHunter's most powerful skills are called Banes. There are six Banes, each having different effects such as reducing foe's resistance, healing, Boost, Bonus, and so on. Banes are boosted in different ways by Hunter Combo level, as well, so plan your usage carefully! Additionally, each Bane has a once-per-combat Silver Bullet that enhances the Bane! You can chamber a silver bullet by selecting the bullet on the class widget (and unchamber it by clicking the bullet again).

Now, on to the skill details!

With this rework, we wanted to give ShadowHunter more available tools for its kit, while also retaining the concept of building combos. Less information is hidden, and combos should be much more clear as to their effects!

We hope you enjoy this unique new rework! Remember, as usual, everything is subject to change and adjustment, so if some things seem a little strong or a little weak, expect changes! (For example, the widget is not final- future version will have bullets unavailable until the required skill is unlocked)

We look forward to hearing your feedback!

And that's all for this week! Phew, that was a lot!

Crazy good release - obviously the class will be tweaked, but its been super fun to play and the animations are great. Love the look of the default sword too. This is less of a rework and more an entirely new class, which is really nice to see.
I'll leave feedback on the mechanics to those who know it better, so all I'll say is it's very fun to play casually.

Am I missing something, or is talking to that archeologist all you can do on the island?
When you call it a "dungeon" I expected a quest with fights.

^Did that same mistake for a while, until I reread the first segment of the DNs post in its entirety. And it already has a pedia entry. Have to warn ya though that it'll be cruel to classes lacking MP recovery tricks.

I was looking forward to this class since dracelix posted it on Twitter 2 years ago, the class is beautiful, in my opinion the pose just looks a little strange when the character is standing still, and depending on some skills the animation seems a bit stuck because the whole body doesn't move, we need to make the movement smoother like other classes ex: chaosweaver, timekiller etc etc, other than that everything is beautiful, I'm already looking forward to the cosmetics (please make a customization with the old model just like with death knight and paladin)

Now that I have tested somewhat the SH's new kit, the only things I find weird are:
  1. Step 1 of each combo type deals slightly less damage than the regular Attack - maybe invert the multipliers such that those are the ones that do 1.25 and the Attack 1.2.
  2. Final Draught affected by Health resist - since it is a one-time big time do or die mode for the class, there might be room for it to either do a set HP to x gig or flaunt further the Constant "damage" type into the healing.
In terms of animations, I don't really see the "stiffness" hampering the experience. While certain skills do have... theatricality... to them, it does not hurt once in a while for a class to show some element of pragmatism. Screw the acrobatics to show off lethality, just do the minimum and get things done.

Finally had time to play it. The nerd in me is always happy whenever the release is a lore expanding kind plus a bonus rework wow. The fortress quest itself ws cleverly hidden, not just a button click kind. Was trying to talk to the archeologist and going through the island multiple times until i released how much of a dumm dumm am i and read the design note. Quite a nice way to use the traveling map. We also got a nice new music which was cool. Unfortunately the fortress felt a bit empty, maybe some hidden notes about the past events
spoiler:

during the fight with Akriloth, some traps left around or some different types of monsters like magister droids investigating the fortress or dragons making a nest there after Akriloth left. I also noticed how only fire type monsters were in the fortress, i guess Akrioth's influence was left there.
It was especially cool how this was related to Maar which is an eerie, undiscovered part of DF which i hope we explote later on. I remember the archeologist mentioning hearing the people's heartbeat which is crazy. Would be nice to rescue them in the future.
