Book 1 Revisited: Adventure Awaits!
Hey there heroes!

This week, we've revisited a plethora of Book 1 quests, from Spirits in the Inn through Sir Ano's quests!

As you may have noticed, this is not The Hatching quest, which is next on the Timeline! It's also not this month's Reimagined release! It turns out the next Reimagined quest was a bit too big for one week. And then we saw what was next to be Revisited... and it was The Hatching. After giving it some thought, we delayed The Hathcing, since we wanted some new specially made for DragonFable music for it... so Jongaar's on the case! it should be ready for next month! And that leaves the next chunk of the Book 1 Timeline!

This week, Spirits in the Inn, Gorgok's Siege of Willowshire, and Sir Ano's quests have all been updated!

Besides typo fixes and dialogue adjustments, exp and gold from all of these quests has been increased significantly, and other quest-specific changes!

Spirits in the Inn:
  • Soulkeeper now has mechanics, a number of monsters have been removed, Mary is now more noticable!
  • Serenity's dialogue has been adjsuted and streamlined, along with some changes to her dialogue about Doom weapons... which is now locked behind the quest!
Willowshire:
  • Exploring the town is now locked behind completing the Darkness Orb.
  • You can now revisit the Siege of Gorgok by talking to Guardian Fortuna.
  • Dravir Siege has had monster numbers reduced, and horde monsters added.
  • Gorgok now has some mechanics.
  • Slay Gorgok now drops some old loot that's returning, along with a new staff to complete the set!
Sir Ano:
  • Should now have a ! notifying you of his presence. (which also goes away when you finish his quests)
  • A lot of dialogue fixes/adjustments.
  • Quests have had a number of dialogue changes and fixes, Dread Bandit Roberts now has a mechanic.
  • Thought behind revisiting these quests was that they're already quite long, so the bosses/minibosses do not need to be difficult.
  • The Sir Ano guest has had his damage reduced from 200% base damage to 140% base damage on his Attack and skill.
  • That stupid sliding boar bug in Nose for Trouble was fixed.
And even then, this all turned out to be quite a large undertaking compared to what we expected. It turns out old quests had a LOT of typos and weirdness!

So, go on and explore Book 1 with your newly hatched baby dragon, and we'll see you next week for the Reimagined release!

Also this week, we have a new cosmetic weapon available for purchase!

The WitherGrasp staff is perfect for the practiced necromancer... who may also need some help reaching the top shelves! You can also click on the gem at the bottom to turn off its glow!

You can purchase the WitherGrasp staff from the DC cosmetics shop for 350 Dragon Coins!

And that's all for this week!

Alright, there's a bunch of stuff I'd like to comment on here.

The boss Ghost summoning back the adds, which seem to have just enough health to get one-shot by a multi attack is great.
The reptile horde is avian, and that's not how reptiles work. Also, you can kill the boss and the quest won't end anymore, which makes it kind of awkward when you can avoid the mobs entirely.
Gorgok seems to be fairly well balanced in that you can do it without potions, incentivizing you to use the guests.
Maybe it would've been nice to have the loot be downgraded to match your current-ish level, but I think we had this conversation before too, so eh.
Sir Ano...
First of all, it feels a bit strange that he's dealing so much damage compared to you, when the first quest makes it clear that he's not contributing much (In that one, at least). The quest originally had him stuck at level 3, which made him beyond useless, and it's nice that's not a thing anymore (Though I don't think that was introduced now).
Secondly, it's a bit off-putting that he doesn't use his updated armor as a Guest. I know that'd be effort to remake, but maybe he should just have the old look outside the quests as well?
And thirdly, the 3rd quest was updated to make a point that we've not fought any Yagas yet, but that makes the dialogue flow worse. This, combined with the (up to) level 45 drops makes me wonder if it wouldn't have been better to leave the questline for later.

Lastly, I really want to say that the checklist from Ash on these side quests is really, REALLY good. I hope that'll see more use down the line to point players at side stories of various importance.

I will miss the Ghost quest's old 8 second bit crushed drum loop - the Great Gilead music is far more fitting though, and is also one of my favorite old tracks, so I'm glad it's seeing some use. I'm also glad some dialogue was added that...
spoiler:

talks about the old innkeeper Sabrina, with the new "some blonde lady" dialogue from Mary and Serenity's new "Doom Items" dialogue directly name dropping her. It'll definitely make the reveal more meaningful, even if some players may still forget about her by the time it happens.

Other than that, it was nice to see the added staff in Gorgok's rewards matches the other weapons so closely, and the sound additions to Sir Ano's quests were a nice touch.

Fixed the horde enemy's race.
The weapons from gorgok could be lowered in level, but I don't think it's a big issue here.
We did reduce Sir Ano's damage pretty significantly. While reducing his damage further might make more sense in terms of the story, these quests are relatively long compared to the stuff that's come before.
I wanted to make sure that they weren't too big of a slog, especially since the story for it is just a hodgepodge of references.
I can review the yaga dialogue again, but I thought it turned out okay. Combined with the higher exp and gold drops form these quests, I see the higher level rewards as a "oh, i can come back later if I want to try to get a higher level thing" sort of deal.
Putting the questline later feels weird, because levels on the drops goes down to 10, and there's also not really a good place in the story to put it. Maybe after light orb with Zhoom since there's the sandwich quest? But even then it seems weird.
I'll just give the dialogue another pass when I can and try to smooth it out. Regarding the art, I think we just forgot and it wasn't noticed.

I'm glad you enjoyed the boss mini-mechanics. Gorgok even has a Defense shield so Robina can do cool things if you bring her from Willowshire!

I will keep that in mind about the checklist. I can definitely see some use for it.

A lot of nice updates! I liked a lot of what was done here, especially Gorgok boss being overhauled was the highlight. Well done with the release!

I agree that the checklist offered is amazing addition. I hope to see more of that in the future. Maybe Ash or Twilly could have a checklist which Orb Sagas you have already completed? I also hope after Hatching, Twilly will say something useful instead of talking about going to the cave.

If there is one thing I hope too see in the future is overhauling Serenity's store. She currently sells a lot of weapons that are useless, especially since you are supposed to be level 7+ when you enter Falconreach for the first time. Early DF suffers from lack of good weapons for each element and farming for those in these early levels doesn't seem like a good solution. Maybe Serenity could sell lvl 10+ weapons instead, elements like Ice and Light would be especially useful against Xan's invasion and Haunted Inn. Sure, Player Suggestion Shop is there, but most of those weapons are level 20 or more.

Nice release! The music choices are really good and I particularly love the Greedling soundtrack used for the Gargoyle boss. While it feels a bit unfitting, I've always loved this track - I think it's one of my favorite ones and I've always wanted for it to be used in an inn fight, even if it's just a solo.

I'm glad Sir Ano's quests were updated because they provide incredibly important story context later down the line and familiarize the player with King Alteon, who as we know, eventually becomes a pretty major character. I didn't know about this questline until I asked why he refers to the Hero as an old friend during the Tournament of Champions, which also led me to finding out that they did in fact reveal that Robina was actually a princess of the kingdom. I'm glad that this information is made more accessible now. In a similar vein, despite having played this game for several years, I had no idea that Mary existed at all in Spirits in the Inn. I thought this was a new addition to the game to play into Calamity later on, but it seems that she was just made more prominent. That's actually really cool!

Some of the bosses getting new mechanics is really nice - I do like Gorgok's rotation in particular. His asset reuse from the inn fight is really nice as well. Previously, very few monsters had mechanics, most notably the Anubis Knight, which had a small permanent HoT and a shield (albeit only Block). I really hope other prominent bosses get touched up as well as these updates continue; many of them are very underwhelming and forgettable. Okuchi no Okami, Captain Brackenberry, Sek-Duat, Noxus, Aisha, Drakonnan (this is genuinely the most underwhelming fight in the game), Corrupted Captain Davey, and Entropic Earth Boss in particular would be super nice to see updated. Notably, the Energy Orb doesn't have a big bad boss to fight outside of the DA-locked Titan Popsprocket AKA Simas Prime because Balthar ends up not being a bad guy at all, so D-4Q1, the Popsprocket war boss, is technically the final on-foot boss of that saga. It would actually be quite cool to fight Drakath here instead, since the Energy Orb is the saga that has you most involved with Sepulchure, for... some reason? and I've always felt Drakath to be quite underutilized as a rival-like character. Of course, this is all very far and away, and I guess I got carried away in thinking what this series could potentially add to the game since we're finally outside the rough early stages. I'm honestly kind of curious about whether the titan fights will be revised as well tbh, some iconic fights like Kathool would be lovely to replay at a grander mechanical scale, given that his old and kinda bad inn boss doesn't do him justice like with some of the previous candidates.

Locking Willowshire behind Slay Gorgok! and Memory-Demons is a good change. I assumed that the Darkness Orb requirement meant that it was locked behind Noxus Fumes, which would be super random, but locking it behind Memory-Demons requires you to complete the Ravenloss Saga first, which requires you to get the Fire Orb, as you rescue Tomix from Drakonnan's Lair - or so I thought, but Tomix's questline isn't actually locked behind the Fire War Epilogue yet. It would probably do to lock Dusk Alley behind Damien's Draft (Highway) as well as the Fire Orb, but I'm sure this will happen eventually. The Fire War should probably be locked behind Ice Queen as well, since it assumes you've already met Galanoth and know about Akriloth's existence.

Speaking of locks, I also decided to sift through the Book of Lore's guests section because I hadn't when that was updated, and:
- Book 1 Galanoth is unlocked in the Guests tab upon completion of A Cold Reception, but his actual NPC only allows you to invite him after Un-BEAR-able cold. Quite odd.
- Book 3 Galanoth is unlocked by Hydra Boss, but he should be unlocked by either Dark Devices, Calamity (One Step Ahead specifically), or Speaker and Slayer, whichever the player does first. Dark Devices is chronologically the player's first meeting with Galanoth after thawing out, but both it and Calamity are optional questlines.
- Book 3 Artix should be locked behind A Pala-Day at a Time specifically, as that is the first time the player meets him. I believe other NPCs allude to the fact that none of them have seen him for several years, so he shouldn't be locked behind Hydra Boss like the rest of the OGs, especially since he has a brand new fit now and is also among the strongest guests in the game.

On the subject of Artix, his other appearance is in Back to School, which is given to you by Zorbak from the Book 3 Falconreach Guardian Tower; you only discover that he's been living in the attic of the Guardian Tower in Soul Scrying and I feel like it's a rather important and shocking plot point, so the attic itself should only open after you complete this quest. Back to School also features Magus Neron, it might actually have to be locked behind Calamity and Blood and Roses lmfao.

The Invitation (BDToG War Intro) should be locked behind Player Hatching. You have to meet your dragon before you can participate in a dragonlord tournament, after all. In fact, I think Player Hatching should play automatically upon arriving at Book 3 falconreach for the first time.
