This release kind of makes me question the developers' decision-making process. Particularly whether it was really worth putting this much time and effort on revamping the entire village's art for a few reasons, such as time and effort constraints, the chronological placement in the timeline of the Hero's visit to the village (as mentioned earlier, the revamped village does NOT look like most if not all other Book 1 locations and is more fitting as a Book 3 location), and due to being outside of the original scope of Book 1 revisits (as TFS initially mentioned). While I don't think the art revamp is bad and do understand that Verlyrus found the need to make some changes to the location due to some old tropes he did not like, I do not think this location was worth an entire art revamp. Maybe just some tweaks to NPC dialogue, NPC placement, or other adjustments which do not require changing the entire location. If the developers really wanted to give Aika Village a facelift then why couldn't they have just modified the old village's art instead of changing everything? With regard to Lilka's art revamp... the proportions look off and almost reminds me of how Cronix used to make his NPCs (particularly the unusually long torso). But more importantly, it makes me wonder why such a minor NPC was worth an art revamp when the same consideration was not made for the literal main antagonist of Book 2 in relation to his race which has become more prominent in recent years. It's a bit difficult NOT to question the decision-making process when it comes to prioritizing developer resources in general. Not to mention the admitted communication issues which all members of the team need to improve on, not just Verlyrus.
