“Dearest Audience of mine. If you stopped trying to follow my bout on this grand stage, do not fret. For I, your Star, had done so too. But I request that you remain seated, at least, we are nearing the grand finale and I would oh-so hate it if you were to miss it… Excellent.” My want. My request. My wish with a short lifespan came true as my foot crashed against the breastplate of the warrior maiden. She managed to react quick enough to soften the blow a little… But I was very proud of my kicks, and reduced effectiveness or not that kick had to have hurt. Right? Not even a little bit? Wonderful. Show me more. My smile never wavered. Not when we danced for but a moment. Nor when the priestess used this intimate moment between us as a means to continue travelling forwards. And even when she went and crashed into Kazimira did my smile not- "Wait. Kazimira." We promised. We were bound. She would return to me as I would to her. Alive. I promised She promised. Please. Her pained screech reached my ears in an instant. I had to rush to her side. Be her savior. A role I was not trained for… But willing to step into if I must. That’s when something else hit me. A taste. Blood? My blood? No. This wasn’t sugary enough to be mine. Someone else’s? Well that couldn’t be right, nobody else had- I paused. The scales shifted. Last time this happened our dear Aggendrest threw his life down to help us reach our own finales. I would tell my cellmate of his name, his sacrifice. But for now, I let a sigh escape me. Kazimira was called back. Admete was called back. I would remain, and so would my original playmate. Our destinies really were intertwined with one another. I was granted an encore, and I couldn’t let the chance slip out of my- “You’re in my way” A voice. Admete’s. She was looking down her nose at me with her chin tipped high in the air. If she wanted to be taller than me she’d need a couple more inches on that neck… Maybe I could help her with that. I would not have much time to consider my options of neck-lengthening before the woman’s whip wrapped itself around Beast. Oh! A game of tug-of-war? I’m not particularly great at this with my own natural str- She pulled. With all of her force. She pulled. A loud P O P emanated from my arm as pain rippled through my body. I stumbled forwards. Lost my balance again? my old ringmaster would have had my head on a pike by now. So this one wasn’t looking to play. She did not want any part of this bloodied theatre. So be it. I had no use for someone like that. She leapt forwards. She looked to drive that dagger of hers into my chest. So be it. I would let her. And when she thought her win would be guaranteed? That’s when it’d happen. Her blade inched its way into my stomach. Every second doubled the pain. Every two seconds quadrupled it. I’m sorry, Admete. Your story comes to its end. My good arm grabbed her wrist and I pulled her closer. My smile was audible as I whispered to her. Every syllable met with a pause. Every word fell from my mouth like I wasn’t in control of them. “Thank you for this opportunity. Miss Admete.” I wasn’t sure if she had heard them, or not, as they were very- very Quiet. And Beast, my gorgeous Beast, crashed into the stomach of my partner with strength unrivaled. I felt it as her breastplate crumpled. I felt it as bones snapped. I felt it as my own dislocated arm P O P P E D back into place. The blow elevated her off of the ground. The stance that she had held until the very end was swept away by the crushing weight of Beast. I watched as she slammed into the black stone. I watched as she barely moved anything. I watched as fate pulled its hold from her and dragged her down into its abyss. A brief, silent moment would pass before I turned my attention towards my final partner. My original partner. She who had danced alongside me many a time in this short production. It was time for the final act. “One more to go.” I spoke again. Aloud, to nobody in particular. The priestess was bruised. Battered. No longer did her form burn brilliantly. A trump card played just a little too early to be meaningful at the end of it all. How poetic. I grabbed the gun at my hip. Somehow it had managed to stay at my side throughout all of this chaos. I smiled. A real one. And fired at the ground behind me And soared towards my fate.
