could one of the AK or mods please sticky my gimp help thread its called NT2 and daykeem2's gimp question thread II that would be greatly appretiated we have a link to our older thread and we have helped along many gimpers i understand if the answer is no

i made this picture, i'm still very new to the art programs/ software like GIMp but i try my best, this is one i came up with, a crappy outcome.

Feel free to post it in the gallery board, this thread is reserved for art related questions.

this is more of a post of reassurance, i have recently upgraded my gallery to massive proportions, ive added a picture section that i do to modify peoples picture of themselves, a tribute section, hacking section, link section, poetry section, around 5 diffrent sections each with its own artwork, picture of the week, links to outsider sites, links to artix's site, etc etc etc, could you check to make sure it is ok for all that to be on there?

also, my guide has gone missing, but i dont seem to recall deleting it on my gallery, if you find it, could you be so kind as to tell me it's current location? if i click on the link it says the thread has either been deleated or has moved.

anyway back to photo renders, is it ok to just, post a render of someone without telling them? what about posting it and then telling them? or must i have their permission first, here is an example of one i did of princess zakuraa
i am very curious on the matter of if it is ok to post that without telling her in PM and waiting for a responce * to save time*

Okay, lots of questions in here...first, i'd remove any links to outside sites, or anything related to hacks and cheating. outisde links arent allowed and hacking is just better if it wasnt posted. Also, if you post a picture of someone else, you have to be sure that they gave you permission to do so, so just PM them asking them if you can use it or not.

What Are the Rules On Public Avy Making?

Max size is 95x95 and 10kb. Also no animation.

 whats a mod???

A mod is short for moderator, which is someone like me. We go around making sure no one is swearing or posting hurtful things. We also keep the boards clean for everyone to enjoy

 Ok, I need a little help. Say I had my picture and a scanner, I scan this pencilled picture and it looks horrible, so I blur it in GIMP and add a border. Ok it looks a little better, but not nearly as good as it looks in real life! What can I do? Change the file type I save as?

Depends, when i scan pencil art, i boost up the contrast to get nice sharp lines instead of bluring. but if you want your shading to show through better, im not quite sure, if someone else knows, pm me and i'll write it here

 J, i have never seen anything you had made. I guess i missed it somewhere or overlooked it.
do you mind showing me a couple? Afterwards i may have a few questions relating to what you do and how you do them.

 Umm what software do you need to make an animated sig? is adobe photoshop okay? probably not...

How do you actually go about making a sig an animated one in {program name goes here}?

A couple of Questions, Some drawing related, some rule related.

1.) I've got to do some charcoal drawings for my portfolio, have any suggestions for interesting items to draw? Drawing spheres and mouse traps is getting old

2.) Any tips on getting better at the broken Line technique? I practice and practice, and it never looks right, I'm at my wits end...

3.) I've got a gallery off of this site, with both writing and Signatures, should I make a post with the link (and some of the work, so you don't have to click the link to see the content) in GoCA or should I just leave the link out because it would be advertising?

people are great things to draw in charcoal, because you don't need to be very precise and accurate. use charcoal to capture the contrast between shadows and light, so by doing a person, their back for example, if you overexaggerate the shadows of the muscles, it makes it look amazing.

you'll have to refresh my memory about the broken line technique, i'm sure i know what it is, i just dont know it by name

i guess you can post the links to the site, you could also transfer everything as image links here, but if its too long just link your site directly

By broken line I meant when a brick building (or something with a fine pattern) is far away, just drawing some subdued lines to represent the pattern, as opposed to the full grid. It continues to annoy me.

i have a question about my avatar. I was told we could contact a mod and he or she may help us out and let us use a custom avatar. If you could help me out then its a great help but if not its no problem at all

Well, as it is now, the only way to use a custom avatar is to get a special title like creative or helpful, which you get from lots of hard work or talent. Or you could try to win some contests and maybe get a title there, but those contests are rare.

i know sigs can be 500 by 100 sig but if u say have a width of 200 by 250 or vise versa. it takes up the same amount of area

Sorry the sig size limit is not going to be changed. Try making a sig thats 300x100, you will find that it looks alot better then 500x100.

Hey J,

My woek on ma paint in this forum isnt very good and i can draw much better on paper, but i still have one big problem. I simply am not able to properly shade. Any tips you might have could be very helpful.

there are a few ways you can shade, so picking the style which suits you best is the first thing to do. One way is the nice and clean shading type, and for that, you need to use your wrist and alot of practice. make a box on the paper, and then using one pencil, try shading it from dark to light in a nice smooth and even tone. once you've done that, try it on a more complicated drawing when you have your hand all nice and steads. its all about mastering different pressures and movements. Dont shade too roughly, its best to start very lightly and work your way up. a lot of people try to shade with one movement, but the nicest shadings use many many layers. you do one layer of nothing for the white, one layer over what you want semi-light, and then any parts you want darker you add onto the lighter shades. its hard to explain, so if you dont understand, dont be shy to ask more questions. the other way to shade is crosshatching, which is also had but more people can do it. its just putting a bunch of dark lines side by side, the closer they are to each other the darker the shading will be.

I just recieved GIMP and am a little off track could someone tell me how to start creating i know where everything is but just tell me like how to start to make on. Thank You

I personally don't use GIMP, so you'll have to try making a help thread in the gallery Q&A, maybe someone will help there.
