Alright, the term 'concept' is one that I did not find at all in this community until recently. I am undecided whether this is just a current buzz word or if someone had a revelation in signature making.

Therefore, I have two questions for the general Digital Arts community around here:

1) How do you define concept?
2) Which is more important, concept or execution?

This question isn't only for people who may know the 'de facto' definition of concept in the community, but for anyone. Opinions on the matter are welcomed.

1.) Concept: The general idea. 2. In art, a rough draft, or possible idea.
2.) Execution and concept are equals. Without good concept, good execution cannot be achieved to a high standard.

Um, actually Kereo:

Concept can also be described as originality, I mean, how many times have you seen the same old type of novice "sig"

ie.

But if it's original, you shouldn't have seen anything like it before

You probably haven't seen too many tags like that before.
But when people sometimes tell you that you can be a pro by copying what they do, be sure to add your own touches, because even if they make it worse, it's more original, which will compensate for the lack of wow factor the tag has.

I don't use the word Concept...its retarded....
I mean seriously the word Concept its too "loose"
Like Saying" that sig has a nice concept" W T F? That sentence added nothing to the Value of the Sigmaker's Sig, or gave any contructive Critism or anything remotely Helpful to the thread!
I mean comeon! Now as for Execution, if it doesn't have any Flow or Good Execution it isn't going to be a good sig. Simple..as..That.
I just don't understand why people use concept. It makes very little sense

Well nick, concept is a very important part of art...
Or you do not understand what concept is or you do not know it's meaning in your language. If none of theese, then I do not understand you at all...

Note: If you're trying to look cool just by saying that things, you haven't managed to look cool. Just for you to know, just in case...

i dont see wat u mean, you tell him to learn to type yet everything he wrote is spelled correctly or near it, and it says i don't use the word concept, not i dont use concept lol

*exasperated sigh* Unfortunatly nick, concept is the "official" term to it. I agree there is better for it, but a few people cannot change an entire society, much of which is dead.

To all who post(Excluding .Heads, thetwodud)

I hate the threads were people argue over something they don't even know about. Before you argue, know a little something before you post. Most os you are probabaly novice or moderate, or some may be begginner. Artists with that rank tend to not go with concept. They go with the better artist's ideas. They try to take the idea's of someone, let's say Aco, and they use that exact same style but they change the color and render. Concept is before you make something, anything, you have to have a concept. That concept is what you want to have that artwork looks like or has the meaning of. Tereo Takana is basicaly the only person here who got that point right. He told you guys but you failed to listen. So if you're debating 'Concept' is not the best word for it, go take it to the Debate Club. You should all apply and if you get in debate. Because arguing over something that won't change were people want to look at tutorials or have their questions answered, are not looking for a pointless arguement.

Edit: Tereo Takana got the answer right for the execution and concept question.
