FAQ for Returning Players

This FAQ is designed to help those of you who have taken a break from Mechquest and have come back wondering what you've missed, what's the best equipment and where to go next. If there's something not answered below please ask in the main forum, or if you think there's a question we should include in this FAQ please PM an MQ Q&A Archknight.

1. What is the level cap?

Level 50. This was introduced at the end of the Gears Games, January 2013.

2. What is the best mech?

To give the players the most variety we can, Mechquest is designed to not have 'one best' anything, but we’ve tried to help you catch up on the releases in this thread: New Releases. Star Captains should check out the latest Star Captain Mecha. If you've been away for a while, we're sure you'll find some changes you'll like.

3. What has happened to the buttons?

Welcome to Streamlined MechQuest. The interface, as well as a few other things has been changed to make your MQ experience a little easier to follow.

4. Where is the Repair button?

The repair button was removed as part of streamlining and replaced with autoheals wherever there was previously a repair button available to use, so you will be automatically healed between missions (but not always between battles)

5. What is the Star Captain 25% bonus?

As of when the streamlined update of MQ was released on 25 Aug, 2011 Star Captains now earn a bonus of 25% to your experience and credits earned in battles. Enjoy.

6. What releases have I missed?

The latest releases are detailed in the New Release Sticky in the Q&A, while you can see an archive of all the releases since July 2011 in the Releases Archive. You can also read the MQ Design Notes for info from the game staff.

7. Where do I pick up the Storyline again?

Click the "Mission Log" button in Soluna, then "News" the "Story Guide" to find out where to go next. If you are finding some areas you used to be able to go to are now locked, please refer to the storyline guide to find out what you need to to do to unlock them.

8. How do I beat X enemy/mission?

You can ask for help and character advice in the main section of the Q&A, discuss battle strategies to beat an enemy in MQ GD, or check one of the below guides for useful builds.

9. I need help beating part of the Storyline!

The below guides are in order of the storyline and give walkthroughs and advice to beat each planet.

10. I've heard that Dodge and Hit have new effects. What are they?

A quote from Vivi:

quote:

*INCOMING TRANSMISSION* Vivi says:

Our upgrade to Engine 3.9.8 has brought a new function to the Dodge and Hit stats. They don't affect attack accuracy anymore, but now they will protect you from your enemy's status effects or make it easier to inflict your own statuses! The rules for these stats are simple:

They only work on statuses that would show up under "Resistances and Statuses" on your battle sheet. Things like Bonus Damage and Healing cannot be defended against.
They only work against statuses inflicted by your enemy, so you don't have to worry about dodging your own buff effect.
The chance a dodgeable status will be inflicted is [100-(Target's Dodge)+(Attacker's Hit)]%.

With Defense and Bonus fulfilling the same roles that Dodge and Hit used to, these stats have seen little use in MechQuest. After this change, expect to see them used a lot more!
If you think the Dodge bonus on the Golden Katanas is too small, don't worry just yet. While we're very excited to make use of our newly adjusted stats we're also making sure to ease ourselves into them to preserve balance as best as possible. Who knows what we might do with them in the future?

(See the New Release Guide for October 7th, 2011.)

11. What's the Turn CC On/Off button for in the Options menu?

Star Captains now have the ability to toggle Color Custom on and off. A quote from Maegwyn's Design Notes:

quote:

ORIGINAL: Maegwyn

So first-off, did you know that Korin added a very cool new feature to the Options interface? Some of you wanted the option to color-customize the now-rare Maypril Derpmachine mecha model, and Korin not only made that possible for Star Captains, but also turned it into an option! If you prefer it in its original color scheme, you now have that as a choosable option. The toggle button is in the Graphics section of the Options panel. (You'll need to re-equip the mecha to see the change.)
