And what's the point of this DN? People won't come back to this game because of this nor new players will play it.... If someone who already plays this game suffers from this problem, he would ask other players and they will help them... This DNs was a waste of time... It would have been better if he did a small task (like changing some numbers in the code to make a simple new balance change)... That simple change would have given players some hope but... This DN is making us lose hope instead of giving us hope..

Oh we can log in, but we aren't tempted to stay and fight along you. Why? You guys left ED to die and now it's become reality, this game is dead. If you would've just put a little bit of focus on ed and brought in some new content then players would've stayed. But recycled wars and events can't do the job, I understand that you guys are working on BB, but why just leave ED out in the dust?

Lord Machaar -> RE: July 29th, 2016 - Make sure you can play EpicDuel (8/11/2016 12:59:34)

I think posting this design note has a reason, since I read that Google will block Flash on September.
Article: http://www.cnet.com/news/google-to-block-flash-on-chrome-only-10-websites-exempt/

So the game basically reached a dead end. There was a little bit of hope thanks to the game client, transfer to HTML5 or unity? a steam appearance? but it seems like they were just dreams. Wet ones.

Devs don't have the courage to say it, neither the liaison or any other representative, the reason for that is pretty clear though. There are still some ignorant players (Ignorant of the fact that the game still has a future and it may change) who are still willing to pay hundreds of dollars on ED. Devs by running ED aren't paying for anything except the sum to keep the servers running. Other than that, all goes to benefits, the devs aren't working on the game, other staff members are just volunteers, so basically, the devs maintained a good cash flow with 0 effort to fund BB in the last couple of years, and possibly for the months to come. Well played to the devs I can say, they are one of the few devs that I've seen in my life who took so much hate from the community (through twitter or other means) but still managed to keep their project up and running. The reason was great though, a good funding for BB definitely worth it.

The only thing devs can do to return ED players their huge favor, by not continuing to play an updateless game, but also help devs fund their project (BB), is by making a sequel to ED, implement as much key elements pre-Omega ED had, ofcourse on a different platform with better ways and technologies, and I'm pretty sure many ED players, old or new, will appreciate it.

Till then, ED will remain a good memory for some, bad for some others, ED devs will continue their seek for knowledge and finding better ways to bring their ideas and projects to reality, until then, I doubt we'd be seeing any projects close to the scale of ED or close to the expectations of ED players.

Battle Elf -> RE: July 29th, 2016 - Make sure you can play EpicDuel (8/11/2016 14:20:50)

AE has a long standing tradition of keeping games online and playable, even if they aren't financially viable. The team will keep exploring ways to keep EpicDuel running despite the hurdles that comes with Adobe Flash.

Lord Machaar -> RE: July 29th, 2016 - Make sure you can play EpicDuel (8/11/2016 16:45:55)

Oversoul and HeroSmash are a different case, the games no longer generate money, and were released in a time where Flash was on the ledge of getting discontinued. The decision to announce them "Dead" however keeping them up and running was easier for various reasons, they were newly made, which means less players have pledged and spent money/time on them... and the playerbase wasn't that big. ED was released in 2009 (Made in 2006/7 I guess), players spent thousands of dollars on the game, thousands of playing hours, a huge player base, so announcing it "Dead" but keeping it up and alive wasn't and isn't a wise decision.

Yes, ED is dead, announcing that or not wouldn't make a difference for the devs/AE, since it is, as you mentioned an "AE-tradition" to keep dead games alive. But announcing it dead would automatically mean players will no longer pledge money, better keep them deluded for a longer time, only the smart ones will conclude it's a dead game, the others though can keep a fake hope in their imagination of ED with 3k - 4k players, hence spending time and money. Sadly that time of money, not even 25% of it is being spent on ED (Beside paying for servers ofcourse).

I'm one of the players who kept a small hope after NW's 19th of February announcement, but after this DN, and Charfade's post, and devs/liaisons trying to avoid any official statement about the game, I think all these can kill any hope in any smart/experienced player's brain/heart. I won't ask for an announcement though, the devs won't do it, it seems like they still need more deluded people to further fund the BB project. But the only thing I'd say, don't abuse it too much, it's the devs' reputation on the line, if you are going to take from the ED community, at least give something in return.

Daph Duck -> RE: July 29th, 2016 - Make sure you can play EpicDuel (8/12/2016 19:32:57)

wel.. rest in peace epicduel is dead time to move on. :/

SouL Prisoner -> RE: July 29th, 2016 - Make sure you can play EpicDuel (8/14/2016 7:29:48)

It was fun while it lasted. Kinda enjoying BB now :/

Greed Redemption -> RE: July 29th, 2016 - Make sure you can play EpicDuel (8/14/2016 12:15:46)

looks like this dying game won't be revived anytime soon, might as well shut it down tbh.

Cyber Dream -> RE: July 29th, 2016 - Make sure you can play EpicDuel (8/14/2016 16:28:13)

As long as players are still buying varium for them to pay for BB then it's not getting shut down. I myself have been trying to get people to stop buying varium since it isn't benefiting us.

SouL Prisoner -> RE: July 29th, 2016 - Make sure you can play EpicDuel (8/15/2016 6:18:00)

I personally want to see the game live on as long as possible.

I think BB is probably supporting itself at this point.

Cyber Dream -> RE: July 29th, 2016 - Make sure you can play EpicDuel (8/16/2016 21:25:58)

@8x why do you think that new BB promo was released? To makeup for lack of content on ED? If that was the case then something would of been released for f2p players aswell. Sure it isn't the same as buying varium, But they're using ED and AQW as a way to draw in more money for BB. If BB was supporting itself then there would be no cause for this to.

Exploding Penguin -> RE: July 29th, 2016 - Make sure you can play EpicDuel (8/17/2016 0:02:07)

The BB promo was made AGES ago. The game's popularity has progressed massively since the initial release of the promo.

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: July 29th, 2016 - Make sure you can play EpicDuel (8/17/2016 21:46:40)

The BioBeasts promo was released with the launch of BioBeasts. We are pretty far separated from the launch with the 1.5.0 complete economy overhaul having been launched fairly recently and the game having over 100k downloads on Android with virtually zero marketing. I'm going to have to agree with 8x and say BioBeasts is most likely holding its own despite the fact it is not pushing microtransactions as hard as previous mobile titles created by AE. Another point would be how little the other rewards for purchasing the nuclear package in BioBeasts. Every other cross game reward has almost made it seem like we are thanking the person for supporting the mobile game while simultaneously telling them they should actually be playing AQW instead of that mobile game

SouL Prisoner -> RE: July 29th, 2016 - Make sure you can play EpicDuel (8/18/2016 7:06:34)

The overhaul is nice. Even though it's copied/"inspired" from Clash Royale.

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: July 29th, 2016 - Make sure you can play EpicDuel (8/18/2016 7:25:47)

The war system is inspired by league/dota seasons. Taking things that work well in other games and adapting them to yours, albeit done poorly sometimes, isn't a bad thing when comes to keeping up with the times.

Exception being when you add in a system just because it is popular and it makes no sense for your game.

Cyber Dream -> RE: =ED= July 29th, 2016 - Make sure you can play EpicDuel (8/19/2016 1:20:56)

Ok we know that BB is doing well now. Can we see the road map or future plans for ED?

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: =ED= July 29th, 2016 - Make sure you can play EpicDuel (8/19/2016 2:06:52)

If I was a betting man the future for ED is putting it to bed so it can finally stop suffering.

If you listen to just about anyone in the community there is a lot wrong with EpicDuel. From core balance issues dating back the better part of a decade to features we will never see added because of engine limitations. I'm not even going to think about how different unity and flash must be from a development perspective, coding languages and animation tools that make the most of unity ie not flash sprite sheets.

It's an old game let's finally put it down and start the groundwork over before the browser's decide to put it down for us and we have nothing but AQ3D to pass the time

Lord Machaar -> RE: =ED= July 29th, 2016 - Make sure you can play EpicDuel (8/19/2016 16:53:17)

I'm not sure to who you are directing this message, but I'm sure it is directed for the devs. As everything is in their hands, to whether put down the game or not. Some players are still believing in the promises said by the devs in february's announcement. But I don't think it is beneficial for the devs to announce it for reasons I've mentioned in my last reply.

A sequel of ED would be great, on a different engine ofcourse, but then devs are too far from making an ED 2, or making anything close to the scale of ED, or close to the expectations of ED players, but I'm sure the devs will be skilled and funded enough to make all that happen. Till then, we must let them learn and evolve.

8x -> RE: =ED= July 29th, 2016 - Make sure you can play EpicDuel (8/20/2016 10:22:08)

@Lord Machaar
What promises?

When BioBeasts is “feature complete,” which should happen early in April, we will return to EpicDuel to provide some much needed fixes and improvements. Keenly aware of the dwindling lifespan of Flash, we will also investigate options such as a downloadable client to make EpicDuel future-proof. With all the traction AQ3D is getting on Steam, we could possibly find a home for EpicDuel there as well.

I ignored the 40 days delay devs gave because ofcourse, it's hard to give the exact timing, but then, I'm talking about promises here that can be met any time of the year.

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: =ED= July 29th, 2016 - Make sure you can play EpicDuel (8/20/2016 23:46:31)

So here's the question I'm going to put out there to the community. If you were a game developer that upgraded to a better platform as the previous objectively worse platform reaches the end of its lifespan would you proceed to downgrade to keep working on a project that will take a very lengthy amount of time to repair without any promise of a return on investment or would you put that same effect and amount of time into a new project using better technology and your past experience to avoid mistakes you made in the past?

I'm asking this question to you guys because that's where the developers are at right now. Machaar has already posted something the devs are all too aware of which is more steps being put between loading up the website and playing the game and make no mistakes that will drive player counts even lower. So regardless of past statements the developers have to keep an eye out for changes in the digital climate otherwise they will just repeat what happened to legends of lore which didn't read the signs correctly and set back other projects by months if not an entire year.

Or I could rephrase it into the much less kind version of if the devs have already decided to abandon EpicDuel and are just finishing the work that needs to be done for BioBeasts while laying out their plans for their next project before announcing this no amount of saying you made a promise will matter. At the end of the day 2015 was a bad year for AE and making poor business decisions in 2016 could very well end up costing the EpicDuel team their jobs so weighing the options of a promise vs a continued career which would you pick?

8x -> RE: =ED= July 29th, 2016 - Make sure you can play EpicDuel (8/21/2016 1:59:15)

@Lord Machaar
"should", "will investigate options", "could possibly"

Satafou -> RE: =ED= July 29th, 2016 - Make sure you can play EpicDuel (8/21/2016 8:04:59)

This game is in such a state that whether you can log in or not the game is barely playable. This game is a sinking ship except the captain doesn't stay on the ship, rather the captain takes the secret escape boat hoping to drift upon land.
