This thread will be your OOC forum for the competitors of the Twilight Arena to discuss tactics, collaborations, plots, as well as to ask questions of your fellow combatants and to provide any additional details necessary to clarify your character or your actions. It should also be used for necessary communications with the Director in requesting extensions. As a reminder, you are required to post every 4 days. While I will do my best to provide 24 hour warnings, please do not rely on these. I must be informed in advance if an extension is needed.

Each of the combatants in this arena will be placed at an equidistant starting point. The order in which you are listed in the roster is the relative location you enter the arena in, with the first competitor entering in at the North of the arena and moving clockwise around the edge of the arena. Alternatively, you can view this as the competitor listed above you will be on your right and the competitor listed below you in the roster will enter in on your left. All contestants are assumed to enter roughly at the same time, regardless of posting order.

In addition, I will be editing in any questions that may be useful for all combatants to read. Beginning with:

What are the dimensions of the arena?
Most Paragon Phase arenas share a similar construction when it comes to the dimensions. From the geometric center it is 65 feet (19.8 meters) of terrain until reaching some sort of barrier, a wall or a lethal hazard in most cases. Entrance ways vary by arena in terms of design, but consist of eight equidistant points starting from cardinal North. Were one to connect the entrances with lines, you would inscribe a perfect octagon within the circle of the arena.

But we have fewer than 8 in the arena!
While arenas are designed with a maximum occupancy of eight contestants, we'd rather let people spread out and have more arena variety than to crowd everyone into a single arena. Any locations after the last person on the roster is placed would be considered Vacant, and their entrances would remain closed.

Do the gates out of the arena remain open?
Yes, though they fill with fog once exited, making them difficult to distinguish from the fog-covered wall. If you manage to successfully find one and exit through it, it will be considered forfeiting the fight.

The discord is an additional resource to help with collaboration, not a necessary one! These threads are here to facilitate conversations between competitors, so feel free to post any questions to those in your arena here, or to ask for advice/clarification. You may also utilize the AEF PM system and send private messages to the individuals you wish to work with - shortcuts to those are in the sign ups thread!

^^ As Starflame said, the discord isn't mandatory at all. All those in it still check this thread regularly, I think some prefer to collaborate here anyways. So if you need anything, just ask!

Useful notes:
Oz's perception of the world is heavily skewed. The third and final section of the intro post is how they perceive the world, which is not the same as everyone else. This is entirely the result of their mental state.
Similarly, the puppets are not people, and have no autonomy. It's noted in the bio, but to restate for absolute clarity, every actual physical action by a puppet is directed by strings, which are directed by Oz. The voices are audible to those in earshot, but they don't actually come from the puppets. It's ventriloquism.
For the puppet descriptions (e.g. beard) only Oz sees those. For everyone else, it's bone.

Is it possible to get a 2 day extension for the introduction post? I'm afraid I'm currently on vacation with limited access to the internet until Friday. An extension should give me enough time in the nights and mornings to avoid the kind of grammatical errors dead tired writing gives. Thanks!

@Sanctus - while I strongly encourage you to get an intro post up sooner, the two day extension is granted. That said, I do not want to cause a chain reaction of people needing extensions while they wait for your post, so it will be assumed that Sanctus, the character, has entered the arena, and thus you may have an attack or two to deal with by the time you're ready to post.


As this came up in the Discord channel - Teak wood is, technically, flammable! You may indeed attempt to set the walls of Twilight on fire, but the effect of a secondary light source combined with the mist and the dance of elements will create quite the... mesmerizing and distracting environment.

Erm, I have my character in the defense untill I'm attacked. Am I forced to act to stay qualified, or can I, say, just shift my position while remaining on the defensive?

If you wish to remain on the defensive for multiple posts, you may do so. The requirement is to partake in combat, not attack non-stop.

That said, be careful in delaying your actions for too long, or you won't have the chance to fully showcase your character's abilities!

Since this got asked in the Discord:

The fog, as water vapor, will carry an electric charge. You could likely have a slight shock pass through at a very close radius. It'll disperse before travelling more than a few feet, and won't do more than surprise those who experience it.

The soup can also affect it. Soup will briefly part the fog and then cover/sink into the grass, and fog will return to the area. Hotter the soup, more it (briefly) burns away. This is true for other hot liquids.

In conversation with another contestant I realized I forgot to clarify an aspect of my intro post.

The marching band of skeletons was a one-use illusion. The music was heard, but the only real actors in that sequence are Oz and the Drakel skeleton Oz danced with.

Would like to request a 12-13 hoursish extension. There's a 10% chance of me finishing the post and posting it without passing out first, but I don't like my chances.

I'll be out for most of the next day, but should be able to get home, finish writing and post it with the time extension.

@Kooroo - 12 hour extension granted. As with Sanctus, it will be assumed your character has entered the arena, and thus, is open to attack.

In my second post, Bei hears a “lightning strike” as she’s running: this is coming from Elias, and was collaborated between Kooroo and I beforehand even though his post is technically after mine- also this post was a bit rushed but I’ll start writing a lot earlier this time to avoid that again

Two quick things:

Firstly, the post above this one speaks nothing but truth... I think.

Secondly, there was only proofreading performed on the first half of the first segment of the post, and that was at an earlier iteration. There will be typos and errors, so, uh. You can sort of prepare yourself for that.

@Sanctus I have questions! With regards to The Rook’s Stone and Mortar, you state that the first 3 blows taken will deflect off, but that a blunt strike would only be able to be deflected once, thusly taking away all three deflections at once. So my question is thus: After Ineria’s thrown dagger takes off one point of deflection (and maybe Elias’ wind blast from his hand cannon does as well? The potential for damage has already passed given the distance between Sanctus and Elias, so not sure on that one, up to you) What happens when she headlong rushing shield charges Sanctus? It’s a blunt blow by any definition, but also considering the size of the shield, it’s going to hit multiple body parts if it hits. Will it deflect off only some or all if deflection still applies? Will it just end up as a negation of force, bringing Ineria to a halt rather than sending her back?

....*sigh* I knew that was going to happen. Sorry, @Ultrapowerpie, I apparently was making my post at the same time you were, and posted a second later. Well, since we posted at the same time, perhaps we acted at the same time, thus not seeing each other's attack?

Either way, the ball's in your court now, Sanctus! I leave the effectiveness of my attack, as well as the effects of the soup (soap?) on our conflict, in your capable hands!

Thanks to my brilliant AoE attack to make the ground slippery, and Star making an initial ruling on this, so first I will post what she posted for clarification:
