Welcome back, Duelists! We hope you had a happy and safe Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, or last Thursday of November! Did you complete the Black Abyss Saga? If not, there's still time, but some big changes are coming this Friday to EpicDuel!


Achievement Overhaul

The central feature of this latest release is a complete overhaul of the Achievement system. Over time, EpicDuel has released over 300 achievements in multiple categories. Some are seasonal, some are rare, some can only be earned once while other accumulate. We will be consolidating them all into one interface, divided into categories:
    General: Basic achiements like those earned through Mission completion.

    War: Earned through events like the Frysteland War and the ongoing territorial control achiements.

    Boss: Earned through defeating bosses like Titan, Nightwraith, and the Black Abyss Spider.

    Arcade: Achievements earned through Arcade play.

    Seasonal: Recurring achiements like Frost Warrior.

    Badges: Purchaseable achiements.

    Feats: Especially hard or impossible to earn achievements like Epic Artists and Alpha Tester.

From this interface, you will also be able to track your progress in collecting all of the available achievements. To make this feature easier to access, we've readded the Achievement button to the main HUD. Also, you can purchase Badge-style achievements from the main Achievement interface now, instead of seeking out a VendBot.


Winter Rares Return

Visit Hank and Valestra in Frysteland to browse a robust selection of returning seasonal rares!





These items will only be around for a limited time, so get them while you can!

Speaking of rares, a lot of current seasonal rares will be leaving this Friday, including all the Harvest and Nightwraith seasonal rares. Rabblefroth's Thanksgiving rares will remain a bit longer, but all the Harvest and Nightwraith missions will also be leaving until next year!


Balance

This Friday we will also be pushing out a balance update to address energy stealing skills like Static Smash and Static Grenade. Energy stealing skills will be capped to the target’s current energy, thus obeying the laws of thermodynamics.


Preview

As I type this, Charfade is busily concepting new armors, vehicles, weapons, and bots for the upcoming winter release. It's going to be a super-sized mega release so we'll need two weeks to complete it!

Beast Rider is coming back, at last! :D Looking forward to the Energy drains change, perhaps Energy Parasite will be altered as well - I'd hope for lower damage penalty only.

Wow they actually listened to my suggestion for static grenade but for all energy drains. This should help balance out some of the more powerful energy drains.

My favourite ED/AE season returns.
Finally the achievement management system gets overhauled.
I wonder if the Dread War will end with the upcoming Frysteland War.

Great start, I always thought it was kind of unfair that when someone uses static grenade/atom, and only has 50% energy return drained the full amount if say the opponent only had 20 energy left.

It should be 10 , 50% of the current energy (20) not the full amount.


Good job devs however I hope this isn't the only change to static grenade it is in still needs a massive tone down in power or add a cost, or even better give the back EMP because and increase energy scaling to 2 per stat point.

All of them will be altered in one way or another, Static Smash and Static Grenade were top two examples since they prove to be troublesome in some cases, hence why major focus is onto these two in particular. :p

They are aware Energy plays bigger role now too, and draining too much can be quite troublesome. Despite the fact Energy drain and/or return seems necessary now, it's similar to before - where having a drain was good, and return was also good if you could have it (passives era). With Energy playing even bigger role now, it's natural these are often necessities in a build. Likewise with defensive builds having to invest into Shield-based skills - tanking, it's self explanatory. They were always pretty much a must-have for tank builds, to cover their weakness'.

I was talking about those 2 skills, and my Battery Backup and Assimilation together never warranted me getting any usable energy. I can get about 10 energy, after Static Grenade or Smash steals my Battery Backup energy at which point I use Assimilation and end up with 10 energy. With 10 energy I can use Bludgeon, Technician, or Defense Matrix. That is all. And because I had to steal from them, they end up with 10 to 15 energy.

    I am really looking forward to the achievement overhaul. I've wanted to be able to move around my achievements ever since they created an actual button to veiw them.

    Also accessing the shop form the page is really convenient, even though I already have all of them.


    My Christmas wish is for Steve to come back to central station for Christmas wearing his party hat. After all, I joined december 23rd 2009 when he was wearing it. It always gives me a nice feeling of nostalgia and was slightly humorous because it made it seem like steve had a sense of humor.

    He should come back.

    Disappointed that the poison hasn't been balanced in this update. Rabble said a few weeks ago that it would be balanced.

    I think he'd rather deal with it once and for all, not another band-aid fix. He's also mentioned Focus will be altered at some point too, so perhaps it will be changed along with Focus. It won't hurt if it'll be postponed a little bit longer - it's not exactly gamebreaking, to the point where it's unplayable.

    Actually, there are some changes being planned for the Botanical Hazards in this update. Just wasn't mention in the DNs. :)

    All that was said about Focus is possible adjustment, nothing else. It wasn't set in stone but Rabble wants to re-visit Focus at some point in time. :D

    I disagree, a major change to focus is greatly needed in my opinion, why?

    Because it out competes almost any other style of Average builds as in non stat abusive builds and when it out competes it it ruins the viability of the variety.

    That is why before focus and robots their was many awesome and creative builds usually focusing on high stat points in two areas.


    Robots In my opinion should not even increase with focus, it should be something like a combination of both Strength and technology, 50/50 both ways which makes it a lot harder to be abused since 2 stats are needed to be high in order for it to be high, but it will still be useful at average power.


    As for focus it self, it should be made to increase the STANDARD damage, I give it the name standard damage because the devs have not given it a name. Basically it is the damage that doesn't improve with anything such as frost shards damage, toxic grenade initial damage, energy parasite initial damage, etc.

    Maybe they could have lowered the tech progression for static grenade a bit more, maybe to like 9 or 12...
