A mixture of fear and anger shot through Gremlin when he realized that he was suffering from amnesia, and he didn't know why. Stay calm, he thought to himself. What do you know? What do I know? He knew that he had been somewhere he shouldn't have been. He was getting information--data. It was important data. He was able to get the data because he could; he could absorb data; energy, too. He could absorb, store, and release energy. It was a unique ability, but not to him. There were others like him. He was...he was a Mage. Yes, that was it, it was magic. He was a Mage. It sounded weird in his head, but he would come back to it later. The data. Why was the data important? He searched his memory, now an abyss of unknown depth, but he could not find anything. Then he looked around him. He was lying on the floor. The ground, not the floor: he was outside. It was light, it was day. Fear groped him again. You cannot be seen, said his inner voice. It was right. He couldn't be seen. He couldn't be seen, and he couldn't fight, either, because his staff was back at the Legion's headquarters, his armor was gone, and he had no gun, and Shadow was the real fighter, he was the only one in Freedom that couldn't fight, and... The stream of thoughts continued. Without realizing it, Gremlin had recovered most of the information up to the incident where he and Shadow had been sent to recover data. He was only missing three things. One, he did not know why the data was so important. Two, he did not know what had happened to Shadow. Three, he did not know that he was not outside, but a prisoner in a virtual reality.
