Coding Mania

*Note from Nightwraith*

Just got back from vacation in Ohio in time to post this DNs. What's in Ohio, you ask? Seasons.

Coding Mania

Hey there EpicDuelists! I hope you’ve been enjoying your week so far. This week is going to be more focused on code than content, so it might be a “boring” update for some of our players, but definitely not a boring week for Titan and Hudelf!

Training revamp

Hudelf is getting more adjusted to the lab, and more features are coming around the bend! While it’s unlikely to happen this week, the long-promised revamp to the level-up/retrain system could be implemented as early as next Friday! (We hope!)

Players will be able to level up with one click, and apply all points to the character. So, you could just open your stats page, click around a bit, and be able to save your configuration. Later on (as in “after we’ve implemented the first revamp), we’ll be adding further training revamps, including the ability to go down one level for small adjustments to one’s build. No longer will you have to completely retrain because of one stat point!

Also, this should make the retrain/level up process about 5-6 times faster.

Duelo Epico!

We’ve begun to regionalize EpicDuel, and the first step is to translate the entire game into Portuguese! Charfade is hard at work exporting all of the game text. This is only one step, but I think we’re going in the right direction in making ArtixEntertainment more accessible to our international player community!

Bug Squashing!

Titan’s working on further securing some recent exploits, preparing the new EpicDuel website, and going through the code to further reduce lag.

Achieving Balance

I don’t want to get into TOO many specifics, since we already know that the next balance updates won’t be ready for Friday. But, we’ve confirmed adjustments to how Field Medic and other skills will work, and how some skills will synergize with one another. Balance updates require extensive testing, so please be patient as we continue to build.

HALP I BEEN HACKED!

This is a reminder that if your account has been compromised or "hacked", please visit THIS SITE for more information. Like Artix said, 95% (actually closer to 99%) of all "hackings" are the result of account sharing either to let a friend play on an account or on the promise of free Varium or ACs.

I feel I should reiterate that contacting Developers or Mods directly will not resolve your issues any faster. Titan and Nightwraith are busy enough building EpicDuel, and unfortunately cannot spend time resolving issues for individual players.

Centipedes are not insects

Following my Silverfish design notes Insect Fact, one of my players showed me a photo of a centipede, claiming it was a silverfish, so this week’s Insect Facts is dedicated to a group of animals commonly thought to be insects but in fact are not. The centipede is one of these animals.

With a name that means “one hundred feet”, centipedes are known for having many legs, with numbers from 10 to over 300! They are related to insects in the sense that they are terrestrial arthropods, but they can be distinguished from insects by the large number of legs and body segments.

According to the National Wildlife Foundation’s Field Guide to Insects and Spiders of North America, there are no centipedes in North America that are deadly to humans, although their venom can be quite painful, their appearance quite frightening, and they do present a danger to people who are allergic to insect venom. They can be beneficial, however, as some species of centipede (eg. the house centipede) eat cockroaches.

Hudelf just jumped Head First into this game that is amazing news and Retrain revamp by novemeber(im allowing time for errors) would be amazing

Andy 4 weeks for Balance would be fine becuase that means it has been well tested and less likely to be problematic

Will the Pirate weapons go rare this week or will there be time for others to still get them and that achievement badge?

I love how their hasn't been a balance update in a month, and also how TLM remains on top with no foreseeable changes coming. That class really needs one of its passives taken, or something changed. That should be a major priority, but instead we keep getting these balance updates that yes, are essential, but can wait. The longer you wait to nerf TLM (yup, it needs a nerf) the angrier your entire player base will get. All the people who are accustomed to tactical mercenary will be pissed off, and everyone else who had to deal with the fact that they had the perfect combination of skills compared to all of the other classes, will be mad they had to wait so long.

Now, on todays release, what exactly are we getting? Bug fixes? Can you elaborate a little like you never do?

Some of us spend so much time complaining. Instead, make a build that can beat the tlms instead of spending all your time ranting on how they are OPed! I am a CH, and my current build has not lost to a supp tlm and has a 88% win ratio against str tlms. IMO, I am VERY excited for the retraining revamp and I think it's worth the wait. Would you rather have a broken retrain this week, or a retrain that works, in a couple weeks? You mentioned tlm is on top, IMO if people took the time to think of a build that can beat them (and other builds), they WOULDNT be so "OPed".

I have a build that works just fine on TLM's. In fact I havn't lost to one in a few weeks. Thats not the point. The point is that if a very good tech mage, and a very good tactical mercenary go up against one another, without luck, the tactical mercenary will almost always win. Why? Because compared to the other classes available, TLM has a much more versatile skill tree with a wide range of options and the two best passives in the game. I could care less about TLM's beating me, I have an original build, and it works great. I just don't like seeing one class have such an advantage over all of the others, and really, they do. Every game I have to fight an uphill match, where the odds are frequently against me. I usually only win because I know how to use my head, but its a close match, where it shouldn't be. TLM gives people who have never played this game, a very high chance of beating people who have played for years. What other game can you say that about?

With my main, my build has been quite competitive with various tac merc builds. And this past week, I had focused with JZeena's build to compete with them as well. It had been a challenge since bhs are not designed to be passive, so with some tinkering, the pieces are starting to fit. To be honest, it did go out of my comfort zone of balanced builds, but it was a new experience. I had never in my playing in ED get pummeled with so much damage, and loosing so quickly. Yet within all those losses, it gave me a tad of insight in improving to compete.

I have a build I think can compete, now I just need to enhancements to be on par to compete equally.

The training revamp will be very nice, and to have the ability to save and touch-up builds will definitely be a feature most appreciative. :)

I hoped they fixed the Plasma Rain bug because it is not right the Blood Mage does not have a debuff that helps increase damage and when I went to see how much damage I could get with 60 base tech, max technician on, and max plasma rain, I could not because not matter what skill I used even field medic, plasma rain either went into cool down or indicated another round warm up.

Yes, I reported this in the bug forum.

I beg to differ. As a TM, without luck, I can win most times (with a few exceptions, meaning I sometimes lose to those tlms who put a bit of thought into their builds)

For those of you who wonder why I don't go into depth about specific bug fixes:

I write the design notes based on what I'm given, and my notes from Titan are usually code-heavy. I have a decent understanding of ActionScript (but not enough to where I would include it in the list of programming languages I'm comfortable working with), and though I may understand the code, it's not often that I can translate what Titan says from "code speak" to "English". There's also the problem of announcing a little-known exploit, which will put all the script kitties into a frenzy trying to take advantage of it before the inevitable patch.

Also, Nightwraith kind of explained the lack of weapons/visual things (ie he was in Ohio)
