Third Eye -> Magic 3 (7/25/2011 18:34:04)

Let's see the pros and cons of this default 3 damage. What I mean by this is however high your defense or resistance is, any attacks will always hit 3 damage. So do you like this idea? Personally I do not, because what's the point of having your def/res to let's say 50-56 if someone with a default weapon with 30 strength can do 3 damage. It's the same as taking a damage from someone with a level 33 weapon with about 35 damage.

So how do you look at this magic 3?

It makes no sense, along with the base block rate which is kinda pointless to this game.

What about implementing negative damage just like it used to happen in AQ? And I loved to kill the sunray by overloading it with light spells xD

Well If I'm not hitting a 3 and hitting a 0 instead it would make me extremely mad.

A default 3 damage does seem somewhat irrational. Take this scenario, a player is smoked so can't see properly and is about to hit a fellow contestant who is more skilled has much higher dex with an enhanced weapon and....hello! he can't parry (block) him and he does 3 damage? somewhat pointless. I've always thought that in fact, their should be a 'riposte' feature where by a more skilled player can turn a parry (block) and turn it into a riposte (extra attack) this would mirror reality after all.

If there was to be a counterattack, then Epicduel would have to involve your actually reflexes for it to be fair.

I would rather have the based damage 10 instead of 3, so layers who loves to extreme tank or even tank, gets atleast 10 damage done to them every round.

This is an interesting thread. I have always wondered how this game seems geared for aggressive builds to win, yet often tank builds win. If you think about it, if you want to tank you have to worry about defense and resistance so it takes 6 stat points to increase both while to increase your damage on either defense 4 stat points in strength will do it. Also, rage helps the aggressive build break through defenses. And on top of it all, there is this magic minimum of 3 damage you can do, so you never have to worry about doing 0 damage.

As for whether this should exist or not, i think there should not be a minimum damage you can do. As for defensive moves that might stop people from doing any damage eventually they wear out or you rage and ignore them essentially. And as for having defenses that passively reduce damage to 0, these builds should be really hard to make since even hybrid armor + a good armor is 19, then lets say you can get 20 defense from stats that is a total of 39 defense, which means as long as your strength is above 30 and you have a decent weapon you should do damage.

Plus, imagine how much more epic battles could be from this example:

You are down to 1 health and you only have to worry about energy damage coming at you for the next 3 rounds (due to cool downs of your enemies weapons) so you cast energy shield. Your enemy strikes and does 0, phew you live. Next turn you attack and then the turn after that you win. With the minimum of 3 damage per attack you could never hope to live while at 1 health and you could never brag about being at 1 health for a few turns and still winning. (of course, you could argue this is possible now since you could block, but this almost never happens while at 1 health)

Indeed, this magic 3 damage ruins the game (I don't know the right word to use). It somewhat annoys me when my hp is down to 2 and I cannot heal, the enemy just takes his gun and automatically kills me.

A lot more "noobs" would quit if they hit 1 or 0 all the time.

If it were possible to hit 0s then tanking would become a lot more powerful. If they are constantly hitting 0 then it doesn't matter how low you hit, as long as you do some damage you would win unless they got lucky with crits. You could just dump all of your stats into dex and tech and be unbeatable. Though everyone would do that so you would end up with battles that have multiple turns where everyone is hitting 0. That would also make the classes with poison the strongest as it would be the best way to do damage.

It would certainly make juggernaut fights a lot easier for the juggernaut if they are using a tank build. Often in jugg fights at least 1 of my opponents will hit 3s most of the time and they are only hitting 3 because it is the minimum. Could you imagine fighting someone that you always do 0 damage to except on rage? I have to agree with 8x here, I can't see many new players choosing to continue fighting through that.

If 0s were possible, imagine a tank vs a tank battle. Only the luckiest would win because crits would be the only thing that would do damage.

Thanks to Illuminator for showing me that perspective. However, hitting 3 is still quite unfair for the late battles. What I mean by late battles are 1v1 with no boosters, energy and low health. Whoever gets lucky to bring the other down to 2 or 3 hp will be automatically win assuming there is no crit/block.

I preferred the minimum of 7 damage when focus added damage. It stopped everyone from tanking all the time, and made people who weren't abusing a stat more even with the people who were abusing the stat.

I remember when focus meant something. The extra damage did prevent tank builds to an extent. The 3 base damage is there to prevent uber tanks from dominating this game. It also gives lower leveled players to have a chance at winning instead of hacking away 0's or 1's.

Hitting 3's to my opponents gives me one advantage, I rage quicker depending on the amount of damage I currently have. Let's say I have 52-55 damage with my gun and I do 3 damage to a tank who has 60-69 defense. In this case, I'll do 3 damage but the 52 or 55 points of damage simply go to my rage.

3 is perfect number for it's use no more, and no less.

Any less and lowerf level fights can last up to infinate, eg Merc only basic club versing another merc with basic blub with high hybrid they would lways only hit 0 unless they crit.
Any more and Str / high damage builds become Oped and tanking becomes usless.

So i think it is fine at 3.

3 dmg is also necessary to prevent endless battles.
Imagine 2 super tanks that cant deal much dmg and
have minimum support.

Sorry, just to clarify, statistical advantage yes. Just thought I would use the correct term as well riposte but, counter attack if you will. Just a thought.
