One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: September 8th 2011 - Update (9/8/2011 17:07:55)

The new animations aren't really new but whatever it gives sword mages some use of Plasma Rain and Bludgeon but chances of them using them are limited, dont expect to see Plasma Rain in 1v1 is what i am getting at here.

Ranloth -> RE: September 8th 2011 - Update (9/8/2011 17:08:30)

I love the TM balance! :D Even though I turned from TM to TLM now, I still think it's great improvement as my 4th char (Lvl 15) is TM! ;D

Ninja Update

[image]http://epicduel.artix.com/images/icon/Cinderella_ED-DN_2011.jpg[/image]

Ahoy there, EpicDuelists! By now I’m sure you’ve all read Nightwraith’s and Artix’s recaps of Dragon*Con (if not, go read them now!) If you’re a loser like me and didn’t get to go, there’s always next year!

But now here’s a bit about the ninja update that just happened!

Interface changes

You may have noticed that some things look different in game- for example the home editor buttons got a lot more shiny (oooh... shiny!). This is reflective of general changes to the interface system. We’ve been improving the way that the buttons and interfaces in EpicDuel work in order to make them more streamlined. Another example is the Inventory screens, which were improved over the weekend.

Balance Changes

Mages should find that their builds are more versatile now, and sword-wielding mages no longer have such a big percentage of their skill trees blocked off. Plasma Rain and Bludgeon no longer require staffs. This should prove to be a significant buff to the mage classes.

Back to the Cave!

Since DragonCon is over, the Draconic weapons will be leaving the game! We left them in a little while longer, since there was a delay in the last update (we got delayed last time, but we’re early this week? MADNESS!). The Dragon and Back to School weapons will remain.

Everyone who purchased a weapon qualifying them for a Dragon Master achievement will also receive this valuable achievement!

Performance Updates

Titan’s still on the warpath against junk code and finding ways to make the Server Hamsters less lethargic, so players should experience a more streamlined performance (although yelling “FIX THE LAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGG” at me is still unlikely to make the server hamsters move faster. They’re kind of contrary like that.)

Welcome Hudelf!

I’d like to take this opportunity to formally welcome Hudelf to the EpicDuel staff! Hudelf is joining our little team as a programmer. Let’s all wish him a warm welcome and a smooth transition! Remember, he's still an apprentice, but he's learning quickly the arts of code sorcery from Titan!

Insect Fact of the Week: Butts!

This week, we’re going to learn about some of the most interesting butts in the Class Insecta: Fireflies!

Fireflies (or Lightning Bugs) are members of the family Lamprydiae in the order Coleoptera. This means that they are neither bugs nor flies, but beetles! They’re called Lightning bugs or fireflies due to the fact that their butts glow.

Fireflies have a set of light-emitting organs on the lower abdomen, in which a bioluminescent chemical process takes place. The light produced is a cold light- it contains no heat/infrared frequencies. The glow serves as a defensive mechanism for larvae and as a means of communication for adults. This is pretty unique among insect species- most mating signals are mediated by scent, but fireflies use visual communication. Some species have very distinctive courtship signals, where the male signals to a female, and she will glow in response to him. However, females of some fireflies will mimic the response of females of other species to lure males, who they will then eat. Nom.

Shadow Jester -> RE: =ED= Design Notes September 8, 2011 (9/8/2011 17:58:10)

Hi Hudelf...Does he have a forum account? ;O

I'm BAAAAACK ... Missed me?? My charger broke a while ago.

PivotalDisorder -> RE: =ED= Design Notes September 8, 2011 (9/8/2011 18:09:32)

Cyber Hunters are awesome, for all those saying they need a buff. only setup I'm losing to regularly is support merc ]
and support has been broken since I started playing this game anyway, so that's no big deal [or surprise]

I havent logged in today but good work ED team :)

Elf Priest JZaanu -> RE: =ED= Design Notes September 8, 2011 (9/8/2011 18:17:52)

Hallo to Hudelf to the ED team and ED community.

The streamlining of the interface with the "shiny" buttons, though aesthetically pleasing, I do hope the game can add some type of tint/colorization. Having to adjust my settings just for that single aspect has not been favorable to me. This will be my last post on the contrast issue since I have noted it on many occasions.

Algorithm -> RE: September 8th 2011 - Update (9/8/2011 18:20:59)

I don't really consider it a buff, but it opens a huge load of new build options :D.

Hun Kingq -> RE: September 8th 2011 - Update (9/8/2011 18:47:18)

What staff says is a buff or a nerf does not appear so to the players because we play everyday. Plasma Rain and bludgeon can be used with a sword is not a buff unless plasma rain ignores 30 plus pecentage of resistance as well as increased damage, that would be a buff.

The support abusing issue has still not been dealt with so how much longer will we have to see that?

Lord Nub -> RE: September 8th 2011 - Update (9/8/2011 19:03:33)

People see change and instantly believe its a buff. When the majority of players are ignorant the ED team can post things like this and call it a buff to make it look like TMs got something.

Difference between those that believe this to be a buff and those that don't is the same as those that make their own builds and know it isn't instantly and those that copy others builds and have no idea what there doing.

Please EpicDuel God bring non-viewable stats and skills to this game so we may have a little strategy component.

stryker914 -> RE: September 8th 2011 - Update (9/8/2011 19:53:00)

Well, still no revamped training system. Staying out of the game for now.

Wind -> RE: =ED= Design Notes September 8, 2011 (9/8/2011 20:16:53)

Gratz Hudelf ! :D

Can't wait for this update, you say bludgeon have be used with a sword O_O? lol honestly i think it should only be a staff skill :P

Master Volcon -> RE: =ED= Design Notes September 8, 2011 (9/8/2011 20:21:30)

^ its already out

These ideas are really good and help out a lot

Hun Kingq -> RE: =ED= Design Notes September 8, 2011 (9/8/2011 20:30:45)

Another thing that needs to be fixed is skipping turns because recently in one 2vs2 I was skipped then my partner was skipped allowing the other team to get extra attacks in but we won anyway.

Cinderella -> RE: =ED= Design Notes September 8, 2011 (9/8/2011 20:57:31)

@hun- we considered it a buff to the class, not to the skill. It opens up a lot of options. What you've described is buffing the skill.

Xendran -> RE: =ED= Design Notes September 8, 2011 (9/8/2011 21:02:15)

While i think this is a step in the right direction, it still has the issue of swords being utterly useless in almost all situations now, due to the fact that there is no longer a large gap (Frostbane vs Mega Proto Staff anyone?) between the power of swords and staves (or for that matter, everything and staves, like there used to be).

Swords give disadvantages only, as requirements mean practically nothing in this day and age due to the fact that you get obscene stat bonuses in every stat anyways.

stryker914 -> RE: September 8th 2011 - Update (9/8/2011 21:04:25)

Removing stat boosts altogether would work...

edwardvulture -> RE: September 8th 2011 - Update (9/8/2011 21:07:40)

Just force down all future weapons to the max of 4 enhancements and I guarantee you a lot of balance problems will be solved.

supermasivo -> RE: =ED= Design Notes September 8, 2011 (9/8/2011 21:08:42)

I wont say names but in "other games" mages can spell curses or whatever with a SWORD one handed... even a mace or a staff ;)
nice update... i dont use TM, but this gonna be nice ;)

stryker914 -> RE: =ED= Design Notes September 8, 2011 (9/8/2011 21:10:21)

Or force down the max stat boosts to 5 a weapon! Would make newbies rage, though.

PumKing -> RE: September 8th 2011 - Update (9/8/2011 21:17:36)

good stuff CInderella, give Titan a high five for me, if this kind of stuff keeps up, I may switch back to tech mage. love the fact that tm's are getting a much less restrictive skill tree, good stuff. :)

Hun Kingq -> RE: September 8th 2011 - Update (9/8/2011 21:18:24)

Cinderella, You and the ED staff may consider it a buff but to the players it is only a change in weapon requirement plus it only affects one skill of the Blood Mage and two skills of the Tech Mage, it was a great change but as players we can't consider it a buff unless it increases in damage or ignores defense, resistance or both.

I used Plasma rain with the sword just to see what happens and it works but the same low damage using up energy with no energy return.

Wiseman -> RE: September 8th 2011 - Update (9/8/2011 22:12:07)

It's a buff in a sense, because the majority of TM staffs are energy and a lot of the skills that where restricted to staff only where also energy. This was limiting the TM class to a very singular build selection with staff, and when using swords they where limited to a small selection of skills. TM had 6 skills that required a staff while all the other classes has only 2-3, this was an unfair and limiting problem that all TM users faced. We also intend to change one other TM skill to be usable with a sword as well, but at this time I cannot say which one we've decided on.

In any case being able to bludgeon with a sword opens up the possibility of mage strength builds with swords, and also allows for the skill to be an option as a backup plan if your using reroute. As for plasma rain, this choice was obvious because all of the other AoE skills didn't require a class specific weapon. The change to PR really allows sword Mages to compete fairly on the 2v2 playing field, and all changes shouldn't be based on the 1v1 aspect of the game.

Hope that helps explain our reasoning behind this change, and why we consider it to be a "buff" to the class in general.

The Joker X -> RE: September 8th 2011 - Update (9/8/2011 23:07:52)

I recommend that assimilation or overload be the other move to go sword usable. These moves would help the TM class a load.
Great but small release imo. Keep up the good work.

Digital X -> RE: September 8th 2011 - Update (9/9/2011 3:58:00)

Well, this has certainly been great for my main, before i always used delta staff just so i could finish the opponent with overload or bludgeon for the fun of it, now they get to see my hilt of my swords before they die :D

ND Mallet -> RE: September 8th 2011 - Update (9/9/2011 8:43:35)

My mage alt is loving the fact that he no longer loses Bludgeon when he has his Maple Cleaver equipped. Now I finally have another option for physical besides using my aux. Mercs at lower levels would just love to switch Hybrid on me due to my aux being my only physical attack
