boosting makes you weak and makes varium players even more Oped especially when they boost against a nonvarium player to "steal" the win. Having to boost after having about a 40 stat difference (10 levels in stats)is definitely a sign of weakness. I've lost about 50 times like this and I'm PO'ed

Silver Sky Magician -> RE: Boosters (12/16/2011 20:12:51)

@frogbones, edwardvulture (and sparticus if he somehow drifts back here)

quote:

It is possible to consider luck as a factor in battle when planning a build. However there is a limit to how much negative luck any build can take. In a game of mathematical precision and control, boosters are a method to counter the uncertainties of the RNG. Some enjoy risk; others prefer to tread the safer path. Hence I don't think boosters are a sign of weakness - they are rather tools to give players a greater advantage over the RNG and a sign of caution, more than anything else.

Neither are they unfair, since boosters are easily attainable.

I don't quite understand the distinction between Field Medic and boosters in the context of this discussion. If the issue is whether one has boosters or not, you can simply view your opponent's character page and judge whether (s)he is likely to boost.

I emphathise with those who detest booster-users in an otherwise equal and enjoyable match, where luck factors are limited or equally distributed. Yet if one should look at it from another perspective; if using boosters is something expected, like using a gun or a robot. Something that isn't an underhanded deus ex machina but rather an expected part of one's arsenal. In that light, boosters aren't a sign of weakness.

Furthermore, though this really is rather evident, the opinions and mindsets of a few booster users may not necessarily be representative of the majority, as with other groups such as the varium-using community.

I'm quite curious about your opinion about this.

Again, the premise of the thread assumes a fair fight: same level, Varium vs. Varium, and zero or equal "luck factors." That fact nonwithstanding, eventually this "luck" evens out; over the course of time, I run bad just as much as you run bad.

Also, think about this little tidbit: These days when two level 34s fight, the damage given and recieved can vary, on minimum, by 8 damage per strike, gun, or aux attack. (I.e., I can attack and hit my low range value, and the defender can hit his high def/res value.)

Everyone has at least a level 1 Field Medic. As to the suggestion that I should view the character page of every player that I battle to see whether they have boosters ..... ummm, no thanks? So what if they do? I'm not playing any differently. And anyone who tells you they do play differently if they know someone has boosters is lying.

These days, I do expect every Tac Merc to boost. IMO, boosting is just a continuation of the mentality of players who class hopped to Tac Mercs. Easy wins, no regard for the "big picture," just win no matter what. (Heh, kinda reminds me of the dirty ol' Raiders teams. RIP Al Davis.) So yes, I always expect boosters, I always feel they cheapen a fight, and I'll always view them as weak--the antithesis of strategy, if you will.

Just my $.02

endtime -> RE: Boosters (12/16/2011 21:45:42)

Wow this guy is freaking insane and mentally unstable. It's part of the game. 16000-4000 is a terrible record for 1v1--that's not even a better % than my 2v2 record. If you don't want to boost, fine, but since it's part of the game people have a right to use them. What exactly do you have to gain for complaining about boosters?

Stabilis -> RE: Boosters (12/16/2011 21:50:55)

Frogbones is correct, boosters are for the weak. What we need instead is boosters that count to 50 points! I mean full heal!!!

EDIT: That was sarcastic, but I would still like to suggest boosters that give more for the bite they promise.

BlueKatz -> RE: Boosters (12/16/2011 21:55:33)

^ It's sad that people like you don't understand. I lol'ed at your win rate, why don't try to use some strategy to win?
Question: Do you use Booster against people who don't boost?

Lord Nub -> RE: Boosters (12/16/2011 21:58:13)

@Green and others who feel Boosts are for the weak,

Ok that just opens a new strategy. If it's offered it makes absolutely no sense to handicapped oneself by not using it for some odd reason. It seems most keep this fight up because they don't like spending credits so they just harass the ones that do use everything at their disposal!?!?

That's a losing fight. If there were no boosters, then the community would adjust their builds as such. If boosters did a full heal, builds would be adjusted for such.

It's a part of strategy. Boosters are for the weak as varium is for the weak, auxiliaries are for the weak, sidearms are for the weak, armor is for the weak, and that insane looking hair style someone paid for is absolutely for the weak.

Oh they just released a new item?!?!? You had to spend credits and/or varium to use it?!?!? Boosters are another part of your inventory that costs credits?!?!? By not purchasing that new item your at a disadvantage just like not purchasing those boosts?!?!? OMG the madness!!!!

frogbones -> RE: Boosters (12/16/2011 22:04:26)

One still cannot deny that you only boost when you're losing....

Stabilis -> RE: Boosters (12/16/2011 22:11:16)

@BlueKatz, I changed my post a bit to make more sense, I suggest you change yours.

I hope some AK deletes that post. All I saw was EpicTrolling. Do you realize how cruel that sounds to me? I never have to deal with BS like that in school. Why? I try to be nice and people respect that. I hope the whole might of law or administration cracks down on attitude like yours "BlueKatz".

i) You don't know me... ii) My win rate is good currently, mainly losing to a specific class, or lucky fights. Sometimes I'll admit, I lose because I wasn't prepared and I lose fairly. I do have a good win rate... iii) Strategy is incredibly enjoyable for me, I always use it for your information.

I demand vengeance.

Lord Nub -> RE: Boosters (12/16/2011 22:14:16)

I will because I don't always have to be losing to use them. If I'm fighting someone I'm familiar with and know is good and also boosts, I won't waste a turn using strike and boost instead to set me up for later.

BlueKatz -> RE: Boosters (12/16/2011 22:22:53)

@greenrain13 I don't see any problem with my post and sorry if that bother you. I don't like his attitude and I say my opinion. There's some people who only care about winning and doing that for all cost, that's the kind what I hate most

Stabilis -> RE: Boosters (12/16/2011 22:25:00)

I don't like your attitude towards ignorance and tolerance. Don't make me turn into yo daddy.

BlueKatz -> RE: Boosters (12/16/2011 22:26:58)

^ oh watch the attitude
bleh this is just nonsense

That applies to healing as well to a large extent...

I still don't grasp your reasoning against boosters, frogbones. Could you elaborate more?

TTG Sean -> RE: Boosters (12/16/2011 23:00:39)

Meh, I think boosters should only be allowed in boss battles.
