Stabilis -> RE: Change to Skill Trees (2 Parts) (3/19/2013 20:31:24)

Alright, I am back. quote:
- Default skills (NOT SUPPORTED): Having a first time player pick their first skill, when they know nothing about the skills and which one is the best, is a bad idea. Also, think about how boring battles at lvl 1 are. If you only had 1 skill instead of 3, battles would become even more boring. I was thinking, because having the player make a decision to change their status at the start (choosing a skill) is difficult, it would be more appropriate to force Field Medic level 1 on a level 1 player as the skill is generic. As soon as they level up they change change their skills and stats whichever way. The problem with this argument though is asserting that the player is ignorant of EpicDuel skills, when the same applies today when someone creates a new character ("oh, I get Field Medic and Defense Matrix and Plasma Bolt... what do they do?"). quote:
- (NOT SUPPORTED): In the time it takes to get to lvl 10 and unlock the next tier, many players would get bored. Needing to get to lvl 30 to use the last tier is a form of torture. New players should have the opportunity to use all of their skills long before that. Also, on lvl 29 skil points would be very crowded on the first 3 tiers, and there would be a lot less build variety. I agree that level 30 to gain access to 3 skills they may or may not use is rude. The aim of this part is setting a milestone and once reached the skills are completely available. I have a possible change to this part of the suggestion: step-by-step level requirements. What this is, is instead of giving a whole skill a level requirement, it is broken into sections. For example, we have the skill Assimilation. We could set it to unlock at level 16, but not completely. To be more accurate, level 1 Assimilation would be unlocked at level 16, and for each character level afterwards, another level of Assimilation unlocks. So: A: X (A is character level, X is skill level), 16: 1, 17:2, 18: 3, 19: 4, 20: 5, 21: 6, 22: 7, 23: 8, 24: 9, 25: 10. So as a result of this step-by-step unlocking gimmick, tier 4 skills are completely unlocked at level 25. Accordingly, tier 1 skills completely unlock at level 10, tier 2 at level 15, and tier 3 at level 20.
