SpawnArchAngel -> Remember the Days? (4/28/2014 20:05:29)

Do any of you, if any, remember the days of BETA Phase where the Devs gave free varium if the player met the criteria(I don't remember) and how about the days of the old forums and the extremely dedicated fan base. I'm not saying the the fan base isn't dedicated anymore but just observing the fact that the community isn't as strong as it once was. Take factions for example, there was once a time (BETA and and good three quarters into GAMMA) where if you weren't in a faction then you made it your priority to get into one and most of the time you had to earn it or you didn't fit the part. Factions seem to be a thing of the past for a select number of players now though. I cannot count how many player's I have seen that aren't included in one. Now I understand those who just do not want to be in one, well, because that is their choice. However, it just doesn't seem logical, becoming a part of a faction was like graduating middle or elementary school for me; it was a necessity to bound yourself and reside in the game's community. Three quarters into GAMMA is where dedication issues seemed to begin transpiring. The transition from BETA to GAMMA was no doubt a smooth and exciting one for the fans. I remember being up all morning long anticipating the release of the new Phase. I left during GAMMA phase due to certain complications that I do not wish to talk about but I have returned recently and I hope those who have also left (especially the very well known players) to return to the game as well. Although I do have suggestions (not the right place for them) for the new features as well as the old and long forgotten, the game is still worth the time to play.

So with everything said and my opinion and fair judgement explained, I ask all of you: What do you remember about the old Delta V and what was your favorite whether about the features or the community?

InFlamed Fury -> RE: Remember the Days? (4/29/2014 1:31:11)

Well i never played in Beta or Gamma but i played throughout most of Delta and i have to say that trying to get into a faction was a personal achievement for me and whenever i was without a faction i felt as if something was missing. The community was always friendly to each other from what i can recall and, as most people know, Juggernaut was actually playable for those around the level cap.

Also Welcome Back Ace Rogan!

Remorse -> RE: Remember the Days? (4/29/2014 2:20:14)

They never gave out free varium unless you were a founder because back then they liked spoiling them for some reason, probably due to the fact the armor was getting outdated with the extremely bad weapon power creep at the time.

But apart from that I agree,

The old forums were also much more interactive.

However the community change does not surprise me.

The games community died the same day the game mechanics changed from being based towards an older audience to based towards a younger one.

If any hope of restoration is to occur some sort of middle ground would need to be met on this matter in which they can cater for both audience types.

I have suggested multiple ways in the past for this to occur.

Another possible reason is that new features have had a negative impact on balance and game-play over time and correcting them would require removing those features which many players do not want.

So basically they are trying to displease no one with changes/ removal of features but as a result displease almost everyone with the lack of changes/removals.

I think a lot of features harm mechanics and balance unknowingly to a lot of players giving the impression that it doesn't need to be changed.

Mother1 -> RE: Remember the Days? (4/29/2014 3:16:32)

@ Remorse

if you played in the ebilcorp war back in delta and earned enough war points at the end of the war you were rewarded with free varium.

But on that other part I can agree with one thing. Trying to turn a game that is PG13 int rated G has really harmed the game.

Elloisoul -> RE: Remember the Days? (4/29/2014 7:33:30)

@mother

I dont get it why was Epicduel rated PG13 because i mean i played this game since beta and i noticed theres not really any blood gore and mechanics wise my little sister played with me in beta (Was 7 at the time) and she understood easily how to make a build, so how was it that in the course of time player had a hard time understanding the mechanics in the past resulting to this

Digital X -> RE: Remember the Days? (4/29/2014 7:37:56)

Only reason I can put to the PG13 rating because in some aspects, you are "fighting" someone, with physical contact. (I know it might seem silly but try to understand)

SpawnArchAngel -> RE: Remember the Days? (4/29/2014 7:44:06)

@InFlamed Fury
First off, thanks for the welcome back! Second, I'm glad to hear that working your way into a faction felt like a personal achievement, well, because that is what it should be. I did not play but a couple of hours in DELTA but from playing since the start of BETA and most of GAMMA I could tell it was different. Omega feels like a time of renewal (not saying whether good or bad) but again it is simply different community wise. I guess it is something you would of had to play BETA to understand.

@Remorse
To address the free varium just to clarify (I hate leaving people in the dark), besides what Mother1 said, I never became a Founder and received free varium however it was significantly less than what founders obtained. To be honest I believe it was 1,500 only. I used it build my own faction and buy a helme as well as few things here and there. Varium could go a few ways back then! I think Delta V has experienced inflation with this new War lol.

As for your take on the community, I agree and you seem to have given this game serious thought considering the social part of it. It is disappointing to see these changes, however, at least it has drawn different players into the community, then again the game has lost original players in turn. Another sad part is that there is not really a way to get in contact with the old players who have left the game.

I'll also make this point, remember the old servers Doom and Legion along with Exile and Epic? Remember how at lest two were filled to the max and it was a struggle to work your way to get to your friends who were in one of the full ones? This brings another great point, there is significantly less people that play.

There was a Founder Appreciation Day where the devs gave all Founders 1000 varium and I believe another 500 from another event.

Because there hasn't been good balance ever since. Right now, everything is relied mainly in energy and the game barely does a continuous effort to improve gameplay. We always get new events, new weapons which was good from Beta - Delta but when Omega came out, all weapons are literally the same in power with the exception of special cores that make them unique among others and that pretty much killed the hype of people really waiting/wanting new weapons for stats.

I've already achieved everything I need in this game and there's not much I can do but play over and over and over in the same routine.

- Become famous for quite some time
- Get at least one daily achievement from the leaderboards
- Create Youtube videos about the game

And that's pretty much what I needed to do. If only there was something new and non-similar events that keep popping up maybe I'd play this game once again. Overall, it's the balance of the game that doesn't make me want to play.

SpawnArchAngel -> RE: Remember the Days? (4/29/2014 16:11:44)

This topic seems to be developing into a discussion on how the balance has changed, which, i guess, is only fair because balance is most likely the inevitable cause of members of the community leaving.
Perhaps it is logical to state that balance is what the players miss from the past and, in many of their hearts, wish to see it return, which is a whole entire separate discussion.

@King FrostLich

First, I believe i remember you from the old forums, if I'm thinking of the same character. Again, if you are the same player I'm thinking of then I very much enjoyed reading through your suggestions and/or discussions.

Second, I want to address really briefly that although balance will always be an issue especially since there is a gap between varium users and non-varium users, Nightwraith posted not long after the release of OMEGA or before (not quite sure; I was just catching up on the design notes) that OMEGA was going to be a time of new art and certain new features. With that said, balance may not be a key issue to the Devs as of this moment in the lifespan of the game.

Third, to keep this from becoming a balance topic I would like to call your mind to remembering how all the players gathered around OZ world 1 and 0 and majority of the other worlds and just simply talked and discussed strategies. That seems like a thing of the past now, the Naomi and Conductor version of this isn't as...stylish.

Mother1 -> RE: Remember the Days? (4/29/2014 16:21:59)

@ elloisoul

Think of checkers and chess. Epic duel when it first came out was in a way like a game of chess meaning more thinking is involved then checkers would have. While I am not saying children are in anyway dumb most kids like things that are simple and not overly hard which in this case is checkers. Where as older players such as teens to young adults while they don't mind simple games can get the harder game of chess which involves more planning.

Epic duel in this case was originally a game of chess. However upon AE coming in the game was changed from a game of chess to a game of checkers due to AE target audience being guess what children. A lot of the planning went out the window for newer things that dumb the game down so that even the simplest of plans can work without counters.

If you look at the balance section now we have some people wanting the passive armors gone active to be nerfed especially hybrid armor due to it actually being so strong that it can stop the dominating build and this is one example of this.

SpawnArchAngel -> RE: Remember the Days? (4/29/2014 16:40:08)

@Mother1

You bring up a great point that EpicDuel was more like a game of chess back then and is now more like checkers.
There is one thing I HIGHLY disagree with though. AE did not dumb this game down, it was a variety of decisions made slowly over time by the Devs that resulted in the dumbing down from the glorious past.
AE actually helped make the game better and provided a bigger audience so to speak. Those from AQW and other Artix games merged into the ED community.

Therril Oreb -> RE: Remember the Days? (4/29/2014 16:52:16)

Alright, looks like a few people like to remiss about the good old days. Well we got just the thread for this: EpicDuel Nostalgia Thread - Old Times - Alpha Pictures
SO this thread can be locked down to keep everything down to 1 thread.

I do want to remind everyone that it is fine to talk about the old days. Especially if they can breed some new ideas or old ideas gone anew.
But, starting to putting blame on certain changes should be no part in this. Blaming people for something will only result in those people retaliating and turning the discussion into a flame war.
So if you want to discuss and compare, that is fine, but keep the accusations away to keep the friendly nature alive.
