After a small hiatus, EpicDuel Team is back at full-strength. Take a look at some of the spicy dishes we've cooked up for you this week!

Arcade Update
First, you'll want to stop by an ArcadeBot to try a new Arcade Game featuring new weapons from our fantastic new guest artists:
  • Hatred Cuirass
  • Assassin Order
  • Bidoof
  • Juniu
  • Vultex
As usual, this game will offer new achievements, a new leaderboard, and come fully-loaded with never-before-seen weapons!

War Progress
The Fortune City War is now pushing past its midpoint. The Exiles are pulling ahead with a commanding lead. The Legion will need to rally to win and hold onto their seat of power! Crazier things have happened.

After the Fortune City War is decided, the next area up for contention will be -- Frysteland. For years, the Legion have held claim to this frigid stronghold, but soon it will be up for contention again and Legion and Exile forces will vie for control once again.

The Attackers will collect Yeti Bait to lure Yetis into jumping through Warp Gates placed around Frysteland to assault the Fortress Core. The Defenders will use Fryste Bombs to destroy the Warp Gates and secure their Core.

Like the Dread Plains War and current Fortune City War, the Frysteland War will offer new prizes, new leaderboards, and the ability to build influence in the region for you and your Faction.

Assuming Direct Control
Rabblefroth is completing a tool that will allow testers to easily alter skills and stats to thoroughly test balance adjustments with minimal dev assistance. This means more thorough and useful balance updates.

New Face of Delta V
Delta V is getting another facelift, this time from the mega-talented Charfade. Be sure to click the little Map button on the main HUD to see it in all it's glory!

I'm just wondering who the balance testers are. This new tool sounds cool. This update sounds overall positive and I do not have any bad things to say about it. I should probably start getting the 150 influence. But personally, I'd like it a lot more if they split the skill tree and re-introduced passives/0 cost skills. That would just open a lot more options. Lionhart looks sweet. Since there are no code release times, I'm gonna just have to hope to get lucky.

Looks good, but i think they should add something else than just spinning a arcade token at the arcade bots. New art looks very nice and different!

Maybe even two wars in each region at least that was mentioned somewhere in older design notes.
I just wonder if the new feature for game testers will lead to new and good balance updates soon.
As usually I wont have much of a chance to catch the reward codes as I am busy with work on the
weekends so GL to the campers.

I had two tokens, it became xerad sword and frost frenzy axe P. They're good looking weapons. Too bad I already have 2fully upgraded physical swords and the account I used wasn't a mercenary. I wish they would make it harder to get unusable prizes in the arcade, or give them a higher sell back.

I wonder why all those travel points got removed on the new map.
It looks nice but I would prefer the old map because of the travel points.

Mhm, I don't understand the new map update either. It made traveling a whole lot longer. Those missions that require you to collect items from places, yeah...

I also find walking very slow, and think that everyone should have a default vehicle, some sort of hoverboard maybe?

Well you could use the item search to jump to NPCs that own weapons.

Like for example if you need to get to marauder quickly, type in something Mirv has, jump to him, then go one screen down to meet marauder.

I'm probably one of the only people who think the map change was actually a good thing. There were two main issues I had with the old one. The graphics were a problem since the whole thing was just too plain (I love the flat UIs that Windows 8, etc. have... but this was a bit much). The other main problem I had was the amount of teleportation that was incorporated into the map. The point of building map screens is for people to explore them, not there for decor and to just be skipped over because you can teleport straight to the map you want. I also found that there was too little effort to do missions, such as the 'collection' missions that Xap mentioned. I mean, it is convenient and easy to just teleport to the maps needed... but I felt it was a bit too easy. It makes you have to work a bit to complete the mission. And really, I don't think anyone's going to say these missions are hard with a few added maps to run through.

The new change also 'forces' people to congregate at certain maps and make the game feel busier and livelier. It also gives more incentive to use vehicles... since that was the original point of making them - to move between maps faster. They became a lot more irrelevant with the old map since, at maximum, you would only need to run through two maps. I agree that walking is a bit too slow and needs to be looked at as well.

Overall, I found the map update itself to be good. A bit more running around, a little more work to complete some missions (you can still teleport to the NPC, so not all it is lost), relevance of vehicles and an overall feel that you're not alone in the game. I will say that running all the way to the Mine Station might be a bit annoying and it could probably use a separate area itself in the map, otherwise everything seems to be at reasonable distances.

The war is another story and I agree with Exploding Penguin on this one. It does seem a bit repetitive but Charfade was kind enough to clarify the war a bit. She mentioned that these regional wars were intended to be "a gateway of progressions though out the game rather then considered isolated events" (full quote below). I think the problem here is that the wars may be a bit too complex and there is a lack of flow between one war to the next (in my opinion, at least). They may not be intended to be isolated events, but they're perceived as such.

Competitions, such as this, that happen throughout the game are better off being simpler, I think. I found there was better excitement/participation in the old daily war system (the pie charts, if anyone needs a refresher). Was it repetitive? Yes. But it was simple and straightforward, and there were different winners on a daily basis. These events take a few weeks to complete and it becomes monotonous after some time, because of the length. The simple war system in the past allowed for a build up to bigger war events such as Fryste and Infernal, which brought in huge numbers.

Might be a bit pessimistic here, but I imagine that any impact the new balance tools have will be minimal. There just aren't enough people working on balance (I think the Testers and RabbleFroth are the people who will be using this tool mainly, but correct me if I'm wrong) to accurately see what impact the balance changes will make. OP builds will always come up eventually by one person and will inevitably tip the balance. I'm in agreement with something Mother1 said in another thread, "My idea of balance would be having the classes as different as possible, with individual strength's and weaknesses but still being able to compete with one another," and hopefully they work towards making each class a bit more unique. It'll be a challenge but hopefully it works out better than I think it will, and I hope they prove me and my pessimism wrong!

The exploration factor may be good for new players but for older players the new map is just very annoying
and we miss the old comfort. Its a waste of time to have to travel through all those screens to reach a destination.
Well it makes vehicles more usefull but at the end its annoying for nearly everyone.

Hey guys check this out:

So there are 10 regions right? The winners of each region can get 10k credits, and Exile will most likely take over every region. So therefore, I could just make a new Exile account and rack up 150 influence starting today every time there is a new regional war.

Doing this until it's all over, I could have earned 90k credits with minimal effort!

I wish we would get more releases with true content, not just these art packs. Nothing wrong with that but lately we have had so many of these. Weapons used to be as content, but now they are just art because every weapon is the same! :/

I really think that they need to just plain stop making more updates about the art in the game and worry more about the game's balance and the player base itself. Look back at all of the other phases, they didn't have as nice looks as Omega but the game was so much more balanced and the was so many more people playing it.

Stop with the art and get back to balance and if worst comes to worst they should revert back to the last update of Delta (Because that was pretty balanced) and redo everything from there. Let everyone keep their weapons nd give legendary players get like 75 varium per rank that they are (GET RID OF LEGENDARY RANKS).

I can't honestly be the only one who would want something like this.

P.S. I also understand that to put it back to Delta it would take some money to get back but in the end i should think that it would be worth it.

They gained the tools, but they've already lost most/all of the testers that are actually qualified and/or unbiased.

if they do that guess what? You are putting 3 of the 5 staff out of work because 3 of the staff are guess what? Art makers. Nightwraith, Charfade, and the newest member to the Epic duel team know nothing about programming or balance. So because you want them to focus purely on balance the other three staff members who have no clue about programming should be left idol?
