Firstly, welcome back, and sorry to hear about your lost rares; I've been there, as have many others.
Most of the best gear can be found at The Inn at the Edge of Time, which is home to what many consider endgame challenge content; very tough battles and intricate challenges which test your battle strategy, commitment, and resourcefulness. Other top-tier gear can be purchased with Defender's Medals, which are most commonly earned during wars, but now have several permanent (but less efficient) ways of obtaining them.
Seeing as you've been away from DragonFable for a while, it might not be wise to jump straight into the Inn challenges; if you're looking for a pretty good, all-purpose weapon you can obtain rather easily (just takes a bit of grinding), the Destiny weapons are still some of the best in the game; the version you'll want to aim for is the Level 50 Wondrous Blinding Light of Destiny. For what you can't use that for, you'll be able to use your Necrotic Sword of Doom.
