Dialogue
Stolen Souls

Saga: Greetings, hero.

Saga: Please, Katia, allow me.

Saga: <Character>, what I'm doing isn't exactly... by the books. I am acting on my own.
Saga: Going rogue, so to speak, abandoning the Weaver's Council's pitiful inaction.
Saga: Mortem was, at one point, also my home, and it pains me to see its people suffer.

Saga: Katia.

Saga: As you see, it's just the two of us. Well, three now. All of this is not, strictly speaking, a sanctioned endeavour.
Saga: Like I've said, I'm acting on my own. I'm going against the Weaver's Council decision... because I'll be casting a forbidden magick.

Saga: Positively extremely very not good, correct.
Saga: Katia agreed to help me, because I have history with her family.

Saga: When I asked her if she could think of someone else who would be willing to "bend the rules", so to speak, she told me about you.
Saga: I recognized your name right away. Who wouldn't.
Saga: You've been rather naughty in Nieboheim.
Saga: All over, really... and word has spread.

Saga: The Shapeless Gazette tends to exaggerate. "From zero, to hero, back to zero"... and whatnot.

Saga: Moving on, the forbidden magick.
Saga: I was able to deconstruct and retranslate one of the forbidden spells that I came across, into something that will allow me...
Saga: ...Us, rather... to physically enter the Plane of Elemental Spirits.
Saga: Because that's where the souls of Mortem's people have been taken.

Saga: Yes, taken.
Saga: And held captive, most likely. Why, I do not know, but knowing the location is enough to put an end to this.
Saga: What maladies Mortem is not a disease or an affliction. SomeONE, or someTHING, is deliberately gathering human souls...
Saga: ...and storing them in the Plane of Elemental Spirits.

Saga: We will cross that bridge when we get to it. We ourselves won't be affected, thanks to the spell.
Saga: And so... will you—

Saga: I'm glad to hear that!
Saga: To set the forbidden spell up, a runic circle has to be drawn around the village, accompanied by focal points, which I already prepared.
Saga: But...
Saga: Umm...

Saga: We can't do that!

Saga: We simply cannot bring ourselves to harm our forest guardians... it would be sacrilege!

Saga: We'll follow you as you clear the path, while I draw the circle and place the foci.

Saga: The last time you were here, you left a path of beaten-up household spirits. It is known throughout the country.

Saga: And... there.
Saga: Once I activate this, per my retranslation of the spell, a dome should engulf Mortem.
Saga: If it does, that means the spell worked. And when we enter said dome, we should be in the general vicinity of where the stolen souls are...
Saga: ...in the Plane of Elemental Spirits!

Saga: This is my FIRST time deconstructing and retranslating a FORBIDDEN magick spell... found in a BANNED book!
Saga: I may be a prodigy, but I'm quite literally creating brand new magicks here, so accidents MIGHT happen!

Saga: *Deep breath*

Saga: ...Yes, Katia, I'm fine.

Saga: Enter, yes.

The Pupa

Saga: This... is this actually real?!

Saga: Sorry, I'm just... I'm dumbfounded!
Saga: I think... I think we're in the Nic Paradigm! I thought it was just a theory.
Saga: A concept.

Saga: The Plane of Elemental Spirits is divided into eight primal Paradigms, one for each prime element. That much we are certain of.
Saga: But... there were certain speculations.
Saga: About a contradictory Paradigm. Just a fleeting theory among the Weaving Council.
Saga: What if the Plane of Elemental Spirit had a Paradigm that was devoid of all elements.
Saga: Purely speculative drivel. Nothing to really dwell on.
Saga: And yet... here we are.
Saga: In an elemental Paradigm of a Plane of Elemental Spirits... that is without any elemental attunement.
Saga: We are in a paradox. A concept. How are we here? Is it because I've forced open an entry...?

Saga: No, not ideal. Quite literally impossible!

Saga: Maybe this is just what the Plane of Elemental Spirits looks like when someone physically forces their way into it...?
Saga: Or this IS the speculated ninth Paradigm...
Saga: I must look into this right away!

Saga: What?

Saga: OH! I am so sorry, <Character>! I sometimes– Yes, let's go find the souls!

Saga: Some kind of a pupa.
Saga: Feeding on human souls...

Saga: You fought those void entities on our way here, did you not?
Saga: This pupa could either be native to this plane or have come from the Void.

Saga: Very good, Katia! A+!

Saga: Right you are!

Saga: They do. A soul always knows the way to its home.

Saga: Yes, let's.

Saga: Thank you, <Character>, for your help. We wouldn't have been able to do this without you.

Saga: Ah, well...
Saga: Not everyone woke up. Those whose souls were taken first... their bodies remained vacant.

Saga: Since they're technically still alive, Mortem will face a difficult decision in the coming days.
Saga: And I strongly believe I should report this to the Weaving Council, along with what I did, which...
Saga: Ah, but that's not something you need to worry about. This is still a positive outcome, all things considered.
Saga: Thank you again, <Character>! I look forward to working with you in the future!
