As of late I have noticed that the RP boards have been relatively slow; there are currently only 2 RPs active in the Role Playing boards. I remember pre sweep of the forums that there were tons of RPs, albeit ones the broke the rules. Still in the pre sweep era there were RPs that followed the rules and allowed RPers to grow.

Post sweep eliminated the RPs that broke the rules, but cut down on the number of RPers. However, there were still a good amount of RPers that remained in the boards. And, Im not really sure what to call the current time that the boards are in, maybe a recession...

But on a serious not, is there something that we can do to change the amount of RPer activity. Could we possibly advertise it in the announcements tab at the top of the forums?

I know that there are events in the RP boards such as the Elemental Championship, but I just dont feel that it is bringing in enough RPers. My main concern is that the boards will become so inactive that they will shut down and I really dont want to see that happen. Maybe there could be an easier way to join the RP boards? Maybe direct someone towards the process of becoming an RPer. The only ways I know how people can become RPers is reading the rules and sending the correct information to the mods and graduating from the RPA.

Im not saying that we should completely abandon the whole rule set of the RP boards, but maybe just do something to increase member activity. Any and all suggestions are welcome to this as well.

I've suggested an idea much like the STO found in the Creative Arts board.

A way to assign a more hands-on assistance to those who are just beginning to RP. It could provide a venue for stronger relationships between forumites. (I know myself and superjars developed a strong enough relationship to be able to hear eachothers "voices" in our writing.) As well as improve the turnover rate of those who apply for promotion from the RPA to the RP.

The Elemental Championships received a notice at the forum homepage, but many could not compete because they did not belong to the Role Players group. Perhaps an annual event like the EC for those in the RPA wouldn't be a bad idea either. Of course, it would need more moderation, but it would invite more new RPers than that of the EC, currently.

I also feel that more frequent events like that of the Championships would increase activity in the boards, as well as more advertisements to the far corners of the RP forums.

Sheriff Duncan: I suggested something similar to the RPA a while back, but the program really never got off of the ground. That is not to say that I did not take some people as my own to tutor one on one. In fact one of the better relationships that I have created on these boards would have to be that of the RPer Mhiko Riyo.

I do wish that something like this would be implemented or at least experimented with just so the RPAers can create some strong bonds with more experience RPers. I would think that this would cause somewhat of a chain reaction and cause other RPAers to try to form bonds with other RPAers.

Now, for the idea of events. The Elemental Championship has been here ever since I first RPing. That was the first major RPing event, but recently, the boards tried to create a new event. I think it was called the Winter Series or something along those lines. I do not think that the Winter Series took off very well.

One suggestion that I do have regarding the events, or the Elemental Championship specifically, is to maybe advertise the event to everyone and then open the RP boards just temporarily so that others can try the Elemental Championship. If they like the EC, then it will persuade them to join the RP boards. There would be rules to this, however, as people would try to start RPs even though they did not actually "join" the RP boards. Perhaps we could impose a temporary creation ban on RPs for those RPers who have not actually joined the RP boards. Maybe we could even give them a title which declares them RP Board Guests which would expire after a week or two?
