Hi all

It saddens me, but i have noticed a large amount of players are very agresive (verbally) in game. I have often been in a duel where someone says something like "no heal", which i usually ignore since my build stratgy revolves around healing for one thing. But when i heal, the one who said "no heal" becomes really foul and starts spouting all sorts of hurtful names and accusations, which really ruins the mood and the fun of the game.
I know that there is a lot of different people out there, and i beleive that theres always a reason behind peoples actions - but that doesnt take away the feeling that their behaviour infilcts.

I would like to propose that those of you who feel like i do, and want a more friendly invironment in game, join me in some sort of voluntarely contract of good behaviour.
I have been inspired to this by the foundation "charter for compassion" where all who wish to support the development of compassion in the world, submit their name and pledge to themselves to work towards behaving more compasionate, in order to increase compasion in the world.

I suggest something like submitting our player name in this thread, along with a pre made pledge. I will try and write the pledge, but since english isnt my first language (as you may have figured) it may need some revision.

Pledge:

I AllanS hereby submit myself to speak politely to my fellow players, even in times of aggression and hatred.
I acknowledge that I am only human, and therefore have also spoken insensitively to others when I have been at my lowest points of self-control. Knowing that, I shall not judge those who speak harshly to me, but also to not fuel the aggression by responding to fire with fire. If I am not able to speak politely or with kindness, I shall choose to be silent in my efforts to avoid instigating any conflicts.
I will support people with kindness, helpfulness, and love towards others, in order to further the most wonderful kind of human behavior.
I will try to delve deep down inside myself to forgive those who harm others and act abusively, including forgiving myself if I should falter in my pledge.
I will not be judgmental of another person's behavior, but only in supporting the grand scope of all friendly interactions, in order to make the game experience enjoyable for everyone.
As a subject to my fellow humans, I make this pledge. Believe it.

I know that this sort of behaviour is only what should be expected of a player, and it shouldnt need a pledge like this - but my experience is that the world isnt perfect, and we therfore need to make an active engagement if we want to improve it little by little
If you feel like i do, please submit this pledge with your own player name, and let us support each other in our quest, to make this game as friendly and fun as possible. So that players of all ages can enjoy the game without having too many bad experiences.
I know it is far fetched, but i beleive that by make a pledge like this to our selves, and supporting each other - that we can sow the seed of compassion in our minds and by our actions, in the minds of our fellow players and friends to come.

I would also like if you would post inspirational stories of how your kind actions gave others a good experience, or how others actions gave YOU a good experience. So that we all can be inspired and celebrate each others kindness.

yeah that happens to alot of people. i usualy just close the chatlog and if he keeps doing it report him :p

 I'm not going to say a pledge or anything because I try to show the other players some compassion so they might be bit nicer and I have been pointing out holes in tactics I have seen from some lower levels players.
Most notably when I am fighting a fellow Tech Mage and they use Defense Matrix to try and stop my build(which doesn't work because I am almost all energy) I skip a round and inform them of there mistake and what to look for as to not make that mistake again so they can become better fighters

@angel thats the same thing i do but then they usualy get all cut and go off at me for pointing out that they shouldnt use that or they need to retrain :s

I'm nice untill a low level player calls me a varium noob, or some such insult. After that I make sure to trash them to the fullest because I feel they deserve it.

 If you see players swearing at you, or doing any other things to discourage you or make the game not fun for you, we encourage you to report the player(s) to either the Lawman or another mod.

We all love EpicDuel as much as you, and being told off or sworn at by another player all gives us a taste of disgust. When you report someone, you are given absolute anonymity so that you can enjoy the game without any hastle.

 @Frost you may be doing it wrong are you coming on strong about and just outright telling them or do you ask if they want some free advice first? If your not doing it wrong maybe I'm just getting the good side of the community

im not just sounding abusive when i say it i say ' i sugest you try ------------ as a build because that one doesnt seem to be doing you any good' then they get abusive :/

 This is a tough subject. There is no possible way to remove a game with chat completely of profanity. As Practel mentioned, you can report players, but with a game with so many players as EpicDuel it's impossible for someone to go over every report. The only way I see this being solved is having an ignore chat button in-battle, but I am not a coder, and don't know how to program that in.

I think my intentions might have been misunderstood.
This isnt about hunting abusive players. I made this in order to try and create a sort of sommunety where we support each other in increasing the friendly atmosphere.
Its all well and good to report abusive players so the mods can take care of them. But i think that in order to truly create a space where people feel welcome and relaxed, its not enough to just punish the wrongdoers - but also to support the good-doers, and to make an active engagement to do something nice for others.

Im sorry if this has been misunderstood as maybe trying to be some kind of mini-mod. Even though i started by writing about my experience with abusive, this isnt about those people. Its about putting some enrgy into creating the opposite, namely a group of positive players who do someting acitve in order to make the gaming experience even better - especially for new players who often need advise and guidance from more experienced players. So inexperienced players dont only meet people who fill their chat log with the word "noob" but also meet players who are actively engaged with helping and supporting the game.

Like i wrote, i dont want to play some kind of moral police, i just want to create a more positive and supporting atmosphere for the sake of us all.

yay Depressed Void - you just made me even happier.

Dear frost snake - no one deserves to be abused. Thats why im proposing that we take action in order to actively make ED a better gaming platform. So people like you can get a lot of good experiences with other players.
Noone deserves to be sad and miserable. So lets work together, and dedicate ourselves to making a lot of reasons to be happy and having fun together.
Were all just humans and we can all have a bad day, where we may say something to others that we dont mean. I dont expect people to be perfect and never mess up - but if we devote ourselves to creating a good place to be, then i think we have made a huge step on the way towards a lot of fun gaming hours. (not that EP isnt fun already - and luckely the majorety of players are either friendly or silent types)

oh im really happy with the game and even happier today coz i met my faction founder and he promoted me to frost knght coz he lkes me :3 which made me really happy there are alot of good people on ed and i am qute happy with it i just dont see the need for people to be abusive unless their depresed theres no point :s

Dear Frost snake.

It seems like youve had some really bad experiences. So im overjoyed that you decided to try and do something active to make the game a better place for all. And thank you very much for you story about the faction. There ARE a lot of good people out there - we just tend to get cought up on the bad experiences we get. Even people who are mean, usually have their good points.
I dont think im a bad person, but i have also said some bad things from time to time, because i was sad or hurt, and then i took it out on someone who really didnt deserve it. Thats why i wrote the part about not judging and forgiving both the people who abuse AND forgiving your self - because we all make mistakes. And just as much as others need and deserve our kindness, so do we deserve and need our own kindness as well. I beleive that when were able to view our own mistakes with kindness and forgiveness, then well more easily be able to forgive and understand others mistakes as well. And then we will naturally speak and act politely and caring

The only thing I do is if a player is calling me a Noob (Agnorant) in PvP for using a Heal-Loop build, after I win I'd say "Suck it"

I never swear, most I've done was calling someone a lucky sod. This game since it's pvp tends to mess with people's ego.

Edit: I just experienced something that reminded me how much I dislike receiving unwarrented advice. It's quite insulting to me to have someone try to "better" MY build when I didn't ask for any help, especially if that someone isn't of my class.
