They already have a thread like this in the OOC forum, so I really don't see the point.

Constructive!

With certain games, there is a close-knit community, and it is a personal message for their friends, supporters and peers. Though there is a thread like this in an off-forum, it defeats the purpose in acknowledgment from their close-knit community of friends, supporters and peers.

That is the point, and why is was posted.

We aren't AE.

After I dived into the ED community, I looked down upon AE. We have a much closer community.

Many of us ARE NOT AE PLAYERS. Why should we have to go into an AE thread? Espescially one that is filed with other people that we don't know?

In ED, we are like family. One leaving person is like a family member growing to 18 and going their own way.

Hope you understand.

I find that attitude disturbing. I don't mind the idea myself, though in this case it would be Lord Barrius's call to make. But faced with that perspective I don't know if I would support a method that only reinforces the separation between ED players and the rest of the community. You are Artix Entertainment players. You post in Artix Entertainment threads if you post anywhere on the forums. And, I have to point out as an aside, I think you seriously underestimate the ties between members of other forums. You are far too quick to judge the other parts of the forums. Maybe that's why you don't want to use the thread we have already set up. To ask a rhetorical question, why should we set up a solution which only reinforces that attitude?

Everest I have nothing against AE players.

But...

I do know the ties between other players and other games.

In ED, we are family. In DF, do you really think people are tha close? True, forums are there.

Oz world 6/7/8 is Server Epic is like a living room for ED players. In DF, its attack attack attack. Just killin'. No community whatsoever.

Exactly how many people use the forums?

You picked the wrong choice of argument, which was bad enough. But then you also picked the worst possible choice of community in describing your example.

DF's probably the best overall community in the forums. They're a fantastic example of the sort of positive, constructive, well-behaved and mature community that we encourage in these forums. So no, given your example, I'd say that the DF community is a far better example of what sort of community we'd like to see in these forums.

The point is irrelevant anyways. Your argument is boiling down to "we don't want to use this other board, so can't we just use our own?". The problem with this notion is that it starts becoming a matter of where we draw the line. If you don't want to go to the L&L to write stories, do we let you write stories in EDGD? If you decide that you don't like using the art forums, should you get to leave art in the EDGD? What your point of view is doing is, essentially, attempting to consolidate your "family" into one tiny section of the overall forums. Treating yourselves like a closed-gate community and keeping out the outsiders. I saw it when people instantly leapt up to reject me as your head mod because, and I quote, "you don't play ED". And I see it in this thread right now. And really, I think that's part of the problem here. You guys don't get out of your boards very much. You just illustrated that fact quite nicely with your implications against the DF community. You try to keep to yourselves rather than expanding your horizons.

So because you don't get out of your board more, you don't know why your board has been cracked down on, and you don't see how much better some of these other forum communities function. How they contribute to each others' ideas in positive ways. How they construct a positive environment for their players and their players' families. I think what ED's players need to do right now is start exploring the forums a bit more. Get out of your comfort zones a bit. Try making some art and explore the art forums, and get involved with some group projects from people in other game communities. Or maybe try writing some more collaborative stories with the L&L crew. Or discuss the changes in our world in OOC.

Because one of the big problems I'm seeing in EDGD has been highlighted quite nicely here: you don't seem to understand why you can't just be your own group. That's just it, you're not your own group any more. You're part of AE. You're part of a much larger community, one that wants to share its ideas and creativity with you, and right now you seem to be shutting it out. That's why things seem so awful when someone shows up and wants to improve things. But the problem with that narrow point of view is that you miss out on everything else that lies just outside your gates. I would encourage you to start exploring more of the forums before you bottle yourselves up. I think you'll come to appreciate things much more that way.

As far as the original point is concerned, at present I'm opposed to it because I think the last thing you need is a reason to stay cooped up in your handful of boards. Once things have improved, however, and we've engaged more with other communities, perhaps the idea will be reconsidered at that time. But right now, it feels like a reason to keep to yourselves, and I'd argue that is part of the issue that we're having right now.

Maybe....I have been in the art forums. I have been in the DF forums. I have been in the HS forums.

They are generally nicer, so nice, they seem robotic.

Its just so...perfect, I get the feeling their somehow not real. Forgive me if I'm wrong.

Oh, and by the way, I was never on EDF. My account was created around the time of Halloween '10.

So basically what your trying to say is: If the ED community all became robotic and constructive, you'd like us a lot more. Right

Go back and look at some old threads in EDGD. The players were superexcited about Gamma, its both the players and developers that caused the flame. I do realize that the devs work hard.

Hi Lord Sinastr, the HS Board's you mentioned happen to fall under my category of responsibility as the Head Moderator over them. It's not as if the HS Boards are run in a robotic manner, it's simply how we've always started boards, and so far for the HS Community it has worked rather well allowing for the Devs to more easily navigate player comments and suggestions, as well as providing an easier access of discussion taking place in a central manner for the community members who wish to discuss specific things. The general niceness comes from a playerbase and community that is structured to follow the rules and be as constructive as possible.

Regardless let's try to keep on topic discussing the suggested change to the ED Thread to be more open to general community actions as opposed to strictly congratulations. It's been discussed quite a few times for other game boards to have their own thread of this nature based on them allowing that specific community to grow closer, where as the current set up is to have one thread for all of the AE Forum Community which promotes cross community interest and communication but can miss out of the desired closeness and familiarity game community specific threads could have.

Alright alright. I haven't spoken in a while and this topic hit me deep.
With all due respect Lord Barrius, who in the HELL are you to tell us we are not a group anymore?

We are not a group anymore? Wow. Firstly, let me say this, we should be able to choose whether we want to integrate to the other forums and it was uncalled for for you to call out ED like that. Just to make things clear, ED was purchased from AE, not created by it, so no matter how much you try to seal that gap up, it will always be there. Meaning there will always be that group of people who liked the idea of a smaller player base.

Oh and please do explain how ED players are shunning people out. Are we literally bashing an idea of a person because he's not in our apparently 'small' community? Last I checked, anyone was allowed to post in the EDGD. So no one's stopping the "ideas and creativity" others are bringing to ED. Moreover, the only reason we want to have a thread here in ED was so that more players would notice it, because as you stated, some ED players don't go on the other forums. I mean come on, its a simple 'Birthday / Leaving / Returning / Welcoming / Congratulations' thread, there was no need to make such a strong accusation to the whole ED community. Its posts like these that make us angry at you and (you being the voice of AE) AE in general. You're forcing the idea of 'opening up' down our throats, just give us some breathing room and if we want to, we'll come around.

Compare to other ED's players posts

....

So you are telling me that people who can talk likely, arguing in limit and respect other and try to create better community and game play is "robotic"? Not to mention you hit the best community of all, DF? I can't even understand why the heck Df can be robotic. This has 100% proved that you guys just don't visit other communities at all.

And really? ED has it's own group? Or groups? Last time I check argument and flaming doesn't seem better than other (ok better than AQW at least) and people doesn't seem constructive at all. Seem like they either focus on some people or start making sides.

I just have to post, since some people start thinking they are something "higher" than other and demand weird stuff. Let's take an example of the "group", if we make "Birthday / Leaving / Returning / Welcoming / Congratulations" thread, people like Fay Beeee (I have nothing against her, but I know some people are just...) will get tons of posts while other might not get even 1.

Yeah I know people gonna argue with that. But let's put it in bigger picture. You guys post in "Birthday / Leaving / Returning / Welcoming / Congratulations" on OOC thread, people won't always reply to you, while they always reply to other.

It's just the same. Tell me the reason why must we must make another "group" just to satisfy some other people? It end up people will want more, I doubt it takes long for ED players want "Own Balance Board" "Better suggestion system" "Allow to discuss this and that"... and end up with every other people want.

After all, AE will become separate communities, ED =/=AQW=/=AQ=/=DF...etc. That's just destroyed the purposed of a "Community". Just laugh and say "ED doesn't need AE" but I would love the see people's face when the gap between famous ED's Players and other were made.

Last, about the "ED vs AE". I mean really, what do players do beside posting here? It's ED staffs the one who decided to merge. So what do you mean by "we should be able to choose", why don't you act and control ED's staffs? No, you can't.

quote:

With all due respect Lord Barrius, who in the HELL are you to tell us we are not a group anymore?

He's not the one told you guys that. ED's staffs are. Sue them if you want, argue, whatever, if they agree we have nothing to against that will.

I SERIOUSLY hate the ED vs AE argument. I really hate it, sorry for such bad post here but I can't stop myself. AE support ED with server, they even give them more staffs, they give them some free art, some mod, money... ED staffs, the original team is the one who is making ED now, if anything happen it's all their fault because they are the only one made that. But look, ED's players yay for anything right and start insulting AE but ED's staffs badly when anything happen

Stand Back

Okay, let's wrap this up.

LB gave a really good reason why the thread title shouldn't be changed and I'm inclined to take his perspective and call it a day. His points are well made and well taken: we don't want you to sit cooped up in your forum with no reason to leave. While I do understand that if you're going to bid farewell to ED, you would want it to be in the ED forum, at the same time, I'm not inclined to loosen things just yet. You're still being a bit tart with each other (and with the forum staff in general) so let's just let things cool down and see if we can all settle in to a more respectful (if not comfortable) rhythm.
