Does it annoy anyone else when newbies and noobs keep trying to add you, just because you look awesome and they dont?
If I enter a zone and theirs a few people, guaranteed the guy with no aux, gun or armor is gonna add me, like I would actually
wanna be his friend lol. On the odd occasion that I did accept it, I get asked if I can buy them varium, asked for my "spare"
characters etc, none ever asked me for help with a build or other ingame advice. is it just the usual online crap?

PS: I usually leave the sound effects on for friend adds in case I am afk and some old friend re-adds me but it goes off every
few minutes if I am in an active area and when I check, its some random newb/noob adding me yet again.

If you don't want friend requests, turn them off :)

Often time new players are looking for a more experienced player to help them. I personally am flattered when a lower level wants to add me

Just my opinion

Yeah I already stated my reasons for leaving the sfx on ^^

Don't get me wrong, I am not against being friends with lowbies, non-vars, foreigners etc [I am English]
but it isnt those players trying to add me, its always just the leechs.

There is a convenient little button in the options menu that disables all friend requests. You should try it.

@Below. There is also an interesting quirk of the human anatomy called the brain. It has many uses, one of them is to think before you create spam topics. *Hint.*

Here's a novel concept: TURN FRIEND INVITES OFF.
New players want to hang out/be friends with experienced players,
hoping they'll rub off on them.

@Psi Didn't read it :/ sorry. Anyways, perhaps telling them you won't add them works. I do that for faction invites.

Sometimes it can be flattering. Its nice to just hang out and be non-hostile but some people can get a little tedious.

@Nicolas: here's a novel concept, read the posts before posting.

for those who need to read it multiple times to understand, I got no problem receiving invites from those who want advice or help.
that does not include helping them with varium, helping them with armor hazard when they are 27 and got no armor and so on.

You only have 2 choices, suck it up and leave it on. Deal with the annoying players. Get invites you really want along with all the others.
Second choice, one I advocate highly also, turn the thing off.

The game gives you both choices, if you want a third choice, ie everyone leave you alone except the people you like/need/help, there isn't any realistic way to do that so take everyone's good advice and just turn it off. (I read this thread, just turn the thing off)

I also find the terms Noobs, Noobies, lowbies, non-vars, foreigners ect... offensive. Standing next to some of the posters in this thread, many of those terms could easily refer to you and that wouldn't be very nice.

I think the reason most of us non-noob players are not annoyed by it is because we TURNED IT OFF.

Newbie = New player to the game [Not an insult]
Lowbie = Low level player [Not an insult]
Non-Var = A player without varium [Not an insult]
Foreigner = Anyone not from England [Not an insult]

all those are just titles, they aren't insults unless used in a context that is insulting. also no high-level/varium players ever randomly add me.
noob WAS/IS an insult though when I use it, because I actually know what it means [unlike most people who use the term] so I apologise for that.

also I wasn't asking for a solution Sparticus, just wanted to know if it annoys anyone else [also hoped a random adder might comment on why they do it]

I find friend requests annoying myself, but turning off the option does work. For those times that someone important does try to add you, usually you have talked to them already so you know they are about to add you, or if its an old friend you should just friend request them once you see them.

But yes, when the option to display buddy requests is on, it can be annoying.

Sorry psibertus. I have mine turned off all the time but still get asked a lot.
However, I try and still say that it is not possible AND leave them with dignity. If you find you have one that asks for varium (and it happens to all of us) delete them - simple as that.

I am English and proud to be one BUT as far as the game is concerned (USA) I am the foreigner, a visitor if you like.

@Fay Bee: I really just meant players who cannot speak English very well, mainly because the majority of problems I have with online games stem
from Brazilians and Russians who just learn the "annoying" phrases and then troll everyone, openly hack, cheat etc and make your game life hell.

again though, I am not targeting a demographic, just speaking specifically about the players I have encountered.

@ Psibertus,

That rather Xenophobic 'foreigners' comment doesn't exactly shed a good light on
British players........To be fair, I think you will find that were the minority in this game community. Think before you type.

The low level noobies look to us as role models. BE FLATTERED!
And yes they are annoying cause you can picture them gleefully clicking the friend request, then running away cause they're scared...

ANYWAYS.
I find it simple to solve by just unchecking buddy requests.

Liz. I think I am missing something. what exactly is offensive about people being from a different country to me?

is their a new word I should be using? it's not like I used the word in a context that is derogatory. also how does a single comment by one person
shed light on british players? you basically misunderstood me AND made your own borderline racist generalization. if I had said "bloody foreigners"
then fair enough. also it is MY choice who I am friends with, if I don't want to be friends with people outside my own nation, hardly makes me a racist.
[not that I am saying I dont want friends from other countries]

too many of you are looking for something that just isn't here.

I dislike friendship beggars so I have turned this option off.
It takes more than a few minutes and some chat lines to get
friend with me.

@Psib I see what you are gettign at with not friending people from other nations, mainly those who cannot speak to you because of language barriers, because alot of time there is little to talk about if you get bored of talking about ED and just sit around and talk about whats going on.

But like everyone is saying you can just ignore them and swiftly click the x on the request or just turn off accept requests and hope you are paying attention when you get a request from an old friend

all of my friends are foreigners

Anyway, i only have 20 of my 100 slots filled, it takes more then 'hi, can we be friends, i watched your video' to be aded, being a well known player doesn't help either, i just only add people that i really know/like

I get asked a lot.

I normally dont except, im usually always full too.

For me, it takes more than a hi, can we be friends, or ive seen ur vids, or cool name, etc.

The only thing that DOES work, is when someone asks me if i want free var, then i add them to get them banned. :P

Question: I've never really used the feature, do we have an actual block button to negate all communications to a selected player?
