Hello,
what about making forum ranks based on the overall number of posts on the forums? Ive seen in on some of the other forums. With us you could start with like Moglin, Zard etc..:)
Of course, if the site allowed it and spamming rules would apply.

Spamming rules apply regardless anyway. I've seen certain forums use this type of system, it really wasn't pretty since all this did was encourage spam. These forums value quality over quantity, hence the titles Contructive/Helpful/Friendly/Creative are awarded to deserving members.

 The only distinction made is New Member and Member and to attain the latter title, one needs 25 posts, I believe, but that exists only to encourage sustained activity and the existence of titles of distinction are there to encourage users to participate and contribute to the forum positively and constructively.

This might be a bit outdated but this comes from [Archive] User Rating System Guide (Updated 2/13)

 @Heroes of the Scape: Yep, that is entirely outdated.

Titles are no longer awarded on a points basis. Aside from (New) Member, and titles awarded to contest winners, they are given to members who meet the basic requirements for that title.  Not only is it outdated, it proved an unmitigated disaster when we did utilize that system. The problem with rating systems it that they either promote spam in the case of post count basis systems (further ratings drop or change unexpectedly when forum maintenance auto-deletes old threads) or they promote popularity contests in the case where users can 1 up or 1 down threads. AE very much did try such a system, it worked very poorly, and so it was discontinued. I cannot imagine we will want to try one again because our userbase has actually increased since then which makes the potential problems all that much worse.
