The gift exchange at Christmastime was an event that everyone enjoyed. However, there weren't many (if any at all) truly rare or special items received. While it was a fun event, a lot of people felt that the gifts they received didn't really have much value (except perhaps the ultra-rare achievement that accompanied the gifts). Perhaps this wasn't the point of the event, but I think people were expecting better or rarer stuff. One thing which I have heard several people say is that there should be some sort of in-game system which allows players to exchange items for free (e.g., a Tech Mage trades a club that he doesn't want to a Mercenary, and receives a staff in return). When I suggested this idea to people, the feedback I received was almost all positive. I think that most people like the idea of having stuff that they can't afford. Obviously, there are drawbacks to this system, but I've come up with some guidelines for a gifting system that I think would cover all the gamemakers' objections to idea. So, here are my suggested rules. 1. Gifting is only allowed between friends. This covers a lot of the obvious problems with this system. This way, you won't have random people harassing others to give them items. 2. All weapons that are traded will lose all skill cores and stat upgrades. This prevents lower level players from getting upgrades beyond their level. You can exchange skill cores to put in the weapons. 3. All items which are traded lose half of their selling value. This prevents farming of credits (at least to an extent). 4. Only items can be traded for other items (as opposed to weapons for items). Again, this prevents farming, and also provides lower levels with items from higher-level NPC's that they are having trouble defeating. Note: If the gamemakers object to the idea of non-Varium players getting Varium items, keep in mind that the money is still being paid for the item. Also, not many people will be willing to give that stuff away. So there you have it: an official system that allows gifting. Please let me know what you think!
