Ok so I've been watching videos of people playing and beating the extalia tower levels and they have their dragons summoned as pets yet they can use the abilities as if they were guests. I cant do that. How on earth do I do that?

Go to options and choose "Manual Pet Actions" on. Where-as other pets can only choose to attack on specific target or skip turn, your pet dragon can do all of it's attacks.
