But who's this mysterious guest she wants you to meet? Objective completed: Mihyun has a lot of explaining to do... Experience rewarded: Scaled Gold rewarded: Scaled Monsters (1) Assassin - Boss NPCs ??? A. M. Hansa Ash Kara SuLema Melissa Mihyun Mritha Myalos Niki Notha Queen Victoria Uaanta Rewards None Dialogue *You and your dragon meet with Ash in Falconreach; he has received a letter of invitation from Queen Victoria for you.* Ash: Hey, you two! I heard there was something big happening in Swordhaven soon. Ash: I even have a fancy invitation here for you from the Queen! <Character>: Hi, Ash! An invitation from Queen Victoria, you say? Why don't we see what this is all about? *You read Queen Victoria's letter, which reads:* quote:
Dear <Character> and <Dragon>, With the latest massive threat to Lore quelled thanks to your efforts, the nobles of Swordhaven have decided that now is an opportune time to celebrate. While being praised by the rich and powerful of Swordhaven might not seem appealing, I have a more important (and interesting) reason for inviting you to attend. There's someone I’d like you to meet regarding the remaining Proclamation rift in the Deadlands. Without the Golden Hand around to close it, the heavy rain and elemental skirmishes from the rift present the largest current threat to Greenguard. I cannot say more in this letter in case it gets intercepted by prying eyes, but I believe you'll be interested in what they have to share. As for attire, you're welcome to dress however you wish! Hero that you are, I doubt anyone would have any issues if you arrived in armor. But if you still have the clothes from your last gala sitting around somewhere, that's an option as well. And of course, <Dragon> is welcome, too! Hope to see you soon, Queen Victoria *After reading the letter, you express concern and curiosity due to events from The Gala and the mysterious person that Queen Victoria mentioned.* <Character>: Well... after what happened last time, I can't say I'm that excited for a gala in Swordhaven. <Character>: But I'm curious who this mysterious person is, and how they're related to the rift! <Character>: What do you think, <Dragon>? <Dragon>: There will be lots of food at the party, right? | *Gluttonous roar!* Ash: <Dragon> certainly looks ready to go! <Character>: Well, that decides it, then! But... what to wear? Go as you are now - proceeds to the next cutscene. Formalwear - equips VIP; you enter a dressing room where you customize your base and trim colors as well as switching your suit or dress to your formalwear; after experimenting with customization to your liking, proceeds to the next cutscene. I need to prepare... (Leave quest) - launches Leave Quest confirmation box; clicking 'Yes' will teleport player to Falconreach (Books 3 and 4). *Regardless if you wear formalwear or not, you and your dragon go to Swordhaven Castle.* Swordhaven Castle's Balcony Artix Entertainment Presents: DragonFable Book 4 Twinned Doom *Now nighttime, you are on a balcony during Swordhaven Castle's gala while your dragon is flying throughout the castle.* <Character>: Finally, a moment to breathe! I know we're more famous now, but I didn't expect to be swarmed by the nobles like that. <Character>: Thankfully Queen Victoria was able to distract them long enough for us to escape! *Your dragon swoops past you from beyond, spinning itself in the air; it appears that your dragon is enjoying itself.* <Character>: I'm glad you're enjoying yourself, at least, <Dragon>! *Your dragon flies and lands back at you.* <Dragon>: Did you see the way they were all praising me? They know how powerful I am! | *Proud and mighty roar!* <Character>: Hey! Don't let the nobles get to your head, they're only trying to get favor from us now that Jaania's gone. *Your dragon turns around instead of listening to your words; your dragon then turns back around to face you.* <Dragon>: ... <Character>: <Dragon>? <Dragon>: Sorry, I didn't hear what you said. I thought I saw something... | *Distracted grumble* <Character>: I said, the nobles are only playing nice because Jaania's gone. <Dragon>: Well, it's working! I've never felt so worshiped! | *Cheerful chirp!* <Character>: You're just happy they gave you food! ???: There you two are! *You and your dragon face Queen Victoria, who enters the scene.* Queen Victoria: Enjoying the night air? The nobles have settled down a bit, if you'd like to return. <Character>: Thanks, Victoria. How are you holding up? Queen Victoria: Just terrific. All of the nobles that backed Jaania and The Rose are now acting like they never supported any of it. <Character>: Even after everything's changed, I suppose the only thing they really care about is staying on top. Queen Victoria: And of course, I'm expected to play along. I don't think I'll ever like this part of ruling. Thankfully, I've had a lot of practice being someone else. Queen Victoria: But enough about that! As much as I'm sure you're enjoying all the attention, there's another reason why I asked you to attend. Queen Victoria: That special guest I'd like you to meet? Come find me once you've had enough of the gala, and I'll introduce you! *You and your dragon then explore Swordhaven Castle during the gala, where you converse with your friends.* Swordhaven Castle's Gala Melissa and Mritha <Character>: Hey, Melissa, Mritha. Looks like you two are having a good time! Mritha: Yeah we are! Let's gooo! It's not quite a party, but it'll do! Melissa: Please don't do anything that'll get us kicked out. <Character>: I take it that means the DragonLords and DragonSlayers are doing well in Dragonsvard? Dragesgrasp? Mritha: Dragon's Peak, they're calling it now. Things have been going just fine. Mritha: In rebuilding the city, the DragonLords and DragonSlayers are finally learning to set aside their differences. Melissa: From what Mritha tells me, it seems the Hollow is almost entirely gone now, thanks to you, Vilmor, and Galanoth's efforts. Mritha: After working all day and partying every night, this makes for a fine change of environment. Too bad Odgne was too big to come with... <Character>: The atmosphere definitely feels a lot warmer. Not being surrounded by enemies helps, right, Melissa? Melissa: This gala... is better than the last, so far. Mritha: Don't tell me you're enjoying yourself, Melissa? After all that fuss about leaving your sword behind too! Melissa: I'm just reminded of better times. I wonder if my family are having fun like this, wherever they are now. Mritha: Oh. ...I'm sorry. I should be more considerate. Melissa: No, it's fine. Just a moment of melancholy. It'll pass. Melissa: Especially if I can get my hands on more Moglinberry Juice! Mritha: ...I reserve the right to cut you off. <Character>: Don't get too carried away! Kara SuLema and Niki Kara SuLema: Hello, <Character>, <Dragon>! Are you having a good time? <Character>: Hi Kara, hi Niki! We had to take a break from the nobles, but we're doing better now. Kara SuLema: That's good to hear. Niki and I were surprised when the invitations came to Sulen'Eska. Kara SuLema: It's almost hard to believe, a wind elf, here at a gala in Swordhaven! <Character>: Nobody's given you any trouble about Yalla's war, I hope? Kara SuLema: I've gotten some glances from nobles, but my interactions with them have been respectful. <Character>: After everything that's happened with The Rose, I suppose they wouldn't have much ground to stand on. Kara SuLema: I feel... conflicted. Do I deserve such luxuries? What would everyone back in the Dreamwood think? Niki: They'd probably wonder where you went wrong. It's so stuffy... Kara SuLema: Oh Niki... Of course I miss the breeze and the trees, just like you. Kara SuLema: But meeting new people and perspectives is important, even if it's uncomfortable. Niki: ...Yeah, maybe some of these nobles need enlightening of their perspectives. <Character>: With words, right, Niki? Niki: Yeah. Words. Kara SuLema: Niki! Notha, Uaanta, and Myalos Notha: After so long, I didn't think being around nobility would still make me so uncomfortable... <Character>: Notha, Uaanta, Myalos, you're here too? Notha: Oh, hey, <Character>! Surprised to see us here? So are we! Uaanta: Queen Victoria sent word across the kingdom looking for people knowledgeable about the Rifts and Wastes. Uaanta: Ash, the kind boy, decided to volunteer us. Makers know I'm not one to turn down a royal invitation. Notha: Apparently, we're "expert researchers"! But hold on! Notha: I heard you came face to face with Aequilibria?! I have so many questions! <Character>: I have a lot to ask you, as well! After everything that's happened with the rifts, I'm curious to learn what you know about the Wastes! Uaanta: Come find us later, <Character>. Try to enjoy the party before Notha talks your ears off. Notha: That's always how these stupid things go, isn't it? Well, I don't care! I'm going to— Myalos: Excuse me, Notha, I appear to have a shrimp tail stuck in my rotors. I require assistance. <Character>: That sounds serious! We can meet up later. Notha: Huh? Let me take a look, Myalos. Shouldn't be too hard to... Archmagus Hansa A. M. Hansa: There you are, <Character>. Finally, a friendly face. <Character>: How are you doing, Hansa? A. M. Hansa: The way these nobles are ignoring me, you'd think they didn't funnel funds to the Rose to advance their own agendas. A. M. Hansa: Though I suppose times have changed, thanks to a certain hero. For the better, don't get me wrong. A. M. Hansa: But weeding out the rot in the Rose has been a difficult process. <Character>: Sounds like you have a lot on your mind. A. M. Hansa: Indeed, I am worried about what to do with all of those scoundrels... A. M. Hansa: ...who had gotten too comfortable with the power that aligning with the Rose had offered them. <Character>: Yeah. Who knows how many like Theano were lurking? <Character>: I feel like even nowadays I encounter those still clinging on to what they got out of being part of the Rose. A. M. Hansa: Just as many as those who joined for square meals and a living. With less funding now, I worry about their livelihoods. A. M. Hansa: Magus Neron has been a great help, but his duties in Amityvale keep him away from Swordhaven most of the time. A. M. Hansa: I will have to speak with Queen Victoria about all this later. So much to do, so little time. <Character>: Why not speak to Kara and see if the Vind can help with anything? It would go some way toward reconciliation between your groups. A. M. Hansa: Hm. Kara has been reasonable the few times we've crossed paths. It's something to consider, at least. A. M. Hansa: But for right now, I can see a number of snacks that beckon to me, and perhaps a glass of juice is in order! Queen Victoria Queen Victoria: Had enough mingling? Ready to meet the special guest? - Let's go! - proceeds to the next cutscene.

*A water elf and her staff are in a private chamber in Swordhaven Castle; Queen Victoria opens the door for you and your dragon as she reaches a book above a bookshelf.* ???: Oh! Um, hello! Queen Victoria! I, um... *The water elf looks at Queen Victoria, you, and your dragon; this is the special guest that Queen Victoria mentioned.* Queen Victoria: <Character>, <Dragon>, I'd like you to meet Mihyun. *Mihyun adjusts her glasses before greeting you and your dragon.* Mihyun: Hello! I'm Mihyun, of the Hyonites. Um, Queen Victoria, are these... Queen Victoria: They're the heroes I told you about. <Character>: I'm <Character>. It's nice to meet you, Mihyun. <Dragon>: Hello awkward watery lady! | *Greetings growl* Mihyun: As I mentioned before, I am of the Hyonites. I... I am afraid it is we who are responsible for the elemental forces near the Deadlands rift. <Character>: You're from the Wastes?! Er— Plains? Mihyun: Yes. I am here as an emissary, hoping to find some way for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. <Character>: A peaceful resolution? But you just said the Hyonites are responsible for the elementals. <Character>: As far as I'm aware, Greenguard hasn't taken any aggressive actions against the Hyonites. Is that right, Queen Victoria? Queen Victoria: Our focus has been on keeping our people safe, yes. We haven't had any issues holding back the elementals. Mihyun: It is a complicated situation, one that I'm afraid may escalate further if nothing else is done. Mihyun: Instead of that, I would like to ask that the Hyonites be granted refuge. <Character>: Refuge? In Greenguard? Mihyun: I know this is asking a lot. I'll admit that my knowledge of your lands is lacking, but my people are desperate for anywhere safe. <Character>: You'd have to be really desperate to pick Greenguard. No offense, your Majesty. Queen Victoria: We're working on it! <Character>: What's threatening your people so much that they'd look for safety beyond the rift? Mihyun: The lands of the Water Plains are waning. We have been near constantly under attack from others for our water crystals. Mihyun: My people saw the opening of the rift as a miraculous boon. Mihyun: The Beyond holds the promise of lands free from the fighting and suffering, even if we must work to achieve it! Mihyun: ...Or fight. Queen Victoria: ...I see. I sympathize with your peoples' situation. Queen Victoria: But Swordhaven is still rebuilding after the Proclamation, and the Deadlands are far too dangerous to offer as a safe refuge. Queen Victoria: Regardless of location, it will also be difficult to get the nobles on board... <Character>: Maybe I could speak to Aquella? The water elves here might be excited to meet distant relatives. Mihyun: There are other water elves here? <Character>: Yes, but how long do we have to decide? The trip to the Locker and Tethys could take a few days. Mihyun: Um. I was hoping to get a decision sooner than that. The elementals are our scouts, you see. Mihyun: We've been holding off, gathering information and testing defenses, but... Mihyun: Our, um, leader, has been preparing to begin a much larger invasion soon. And I would very much rather not have that happen. Queen Victoria: As would we. If you'd told me this sooner, maybe we would have had more time to figure out a solution. Mihyun: I'm sorry! I didn't realize... I... Oh no... <Character>: So Greenguard has to either accept the Hyonites as refugees or prepare for war? Is there no other way to solve this peacefully? Mihyun: I... Um... I don't know... Queen Victoria: Hmm. If we can convince the nobles to possibly temporarily accept the Hyonites, we should be able to at least postpone an all-out war. <Character>: That's not going to be easy. Tensions are still high after everything with The Rose. <Character>: And who knows what kind of opportunities the nobles might see? Queen Victoria: The last thing we want is for them to find a new convenient enemy to rally against, too. But if we do nothing, that's what they'll have. Mihyun: Maybe I can address them here, at the gala! I... I can convince them! *Assessing Mihyun's situation of the Water Plains, Queen Victoria decides to let Mihyun greet the Swordhaven nobles.* Queen Victoria: It's better than not trying at all, I suppose. Some of them might find compassion rattling around somewhere in their hardened hearts. Queen Victoria: Stay here, Mihyun. I'll get everything ready. <Character>, a word, please. *You, your dragon, and Queen Victoria are now outside of Mihyun's chamber; Queen Victoria asks your thoughts about Mihyun.* Queen Victoria: Okay. What do you think of her, <Character>? <Character>: I think she's genuine in wanting peace, but there's something else going on, too. <Character>: She's the emissary of her people, here for peace, yet they're still about to begin invading? <Character>: And... she's here on her own? No guards or escort? Queen Victoria: Some knights found her sneaking around in the Deadlands. She claimed to be an emissary, so Circe brought her here. <Character>: That's suspicious to say the least. <Character>: She also seemed unprepared for anything besides outright acceptance or rejection. Maybe she's just entirely too naive. <Character>: What do you think, <Dragon>? *Your dragon is surprised as they were not listening to your and Queen Victoria's conversation about Mihyun.* <Dragon>: What? Were you talking to me? Um... | *Surprised growl* <Dragon>: Something about her smells familiar... Like a hint of a good memory... | *Nostalgic grumble* <Dragon>: But I feel like she'd give me treats if I'd ask! I like her! | *Approving chirp!* <Character>: Sounds like <Dragon>'s a fan. Queen Victoria: I'm glad we all agree. Thank you, at least you didn't sense any malice from her. Queen Victoria: Still, whatever she's hiding, she seems earnest enough. I'd like to trust her. <Character>: We should be careful, but so would I. <Character>: It sounds like her people are stuck, having to either push through the rift, or be destroyed in the Plains. Queen Victoria: I know we'd be able to fight back any invasion, especially with you and <Dragon>, but I would really prefer it if it didn't come to that. <Character>: I can't say I'm eager to emerge victorious over an army of desperate water elves. Queen Victoria: A prolonged conflict would also slow down our research into containing the rift. Queen Victoria: The Deadlands might be a mess already, but the rift's flooding and rains are still a problem. *Queen Victoria pauses before continuing.* Queen Victoria: I'll let her speak to the nobles. We can always hope for a miracle. Queen Victoria: At the very least, the more reasonable ones might be open to extending dialogue to other water elves across the rift. Queen Victoria: Hearing the threat of invasion from Mihyun should also convince the nobles to spare resources for a potential defense as well. <Character>: Should I set out for Tethys? Even if it ends up being late, Aquella's intervention could be invaluable. Queen Victoria: That would be—, <Dragon>: Something feels wrong... worse than before. | *Uncomfortable hiss* <Character>: <Dragon>? What's bothering you? <Dragon>: I feel like something's watching us! I don't like it! | *Disturbed, shivering growl* Queen Victoria: What's wrong? <Character>: <Dragon> has a bad feeling. Maybe we should stay a little longer, just in case. Queen Victoria: No objections from me. I trust you. *You, your dragon, and Queen Victoria are in the dining room of Swordhaven Castle; Queen Victoria prepares to greet Mihyun to the Swordhaven nobles.* Queen Victoria: Ahem. Thank you, everyone, for gracing the halls of Swordhaven Castle with your presence. Queen Victoria: Before the night comes to a close, I would like to present a special guest, who is visiting from beyond the Deadlands rift... *The nobles '*Murmur*' collectively.* Queen Victoria: Mihyun, emissary of the Hyonites! *Mihyun enters the scene; she then adjusts her glasses before greeting the nobles.* Mihyun: Greetings, honored nobles of Swordhaven. As Queen Victoria has said, I am Mihyun, of the Hyonites. Mihyun: First, I would like to apologize. I am afraid that it is we who are responsible for the conflict near the rift... Mihyun: ...I regret any harm that may have come to your people. *The nobles '*Murmur*' collectively.* Mihyun: I understand that this is not— *Suddenly, someone with red eyes throws a dagger at Mihyun, only for your dragon to knock the dagger with their tail.* <Dragon>: I knew it! Show yourself, bad guy! | *Defiant roar!* <Character>: Mihyun, are you okay? Mihyun: What was— *An entity of Doom—wearing similar features as Sepulchure—appears from the crowd of Swordhaven nobles and points his sword at Mihyun, which shocks her; this is the entity that tried to kill her and that your dragon warns about.* Queen Victoria: <Character>, is that...?! <Character>: Doom. <Character>: Stand back, Mihyun.
