Well i've been playing Epic Duel since beta testing stages, I've always enjoyed this game and never thought anything would happen that could irritate me.

I took some time off when the max level was 30 and returned to find that they had increased the cap to lvl 32, once I got there I was away for about a year or so and was very pleased to find that they had raised the max level to 34 which I though was a nice touch, even bringing some fantastic weapons that I'm always happy buying.

After a few more months of not playing I saw ED in my favourites folder and thought "Yeah good old ED, when there's nothing else to play this always cheers me up" so I log on, awesome new armour, maybe not as good as my founder armor but i'll get that. Oh it's pretty good.

But then I have a 2v2 match and check the other players stats and my own (Had been a while didn't remember how much of a tank I was) and found to my astonishment that my Hybrid armour had been split in two. 6 on physical def and 6 on energy def. Then I looked at another merc and found his was all on physical defense which at first puzzled me.

So I looked carefully and saw that this new tech merc got the hybrid armor I once had so I guess they're expecting me to be a tech merc to get the hybrid that actually works. Well that won't happen as tech mercs have nothing I use.

If I wanted to be a hybrid Merc/Mage or Merc/BH I'd be a mage or BH but I am a Merc and the hybrid was the only thing that mercs had for an advantage especially against Mages malf and BH's smoke.

I never needed the hybrid for my energy def as I have epic amounts of that but my dex was helped by the +13 (Or +12 whatever they changed it to).

So when did that happen?

As I'm sure you can tell from the above rant I am sorely disappointed, the Epic Duel that I joined many years ago has indeed changed and I'm finding it hard to find the good in it.

Hybrid Mercs, Mages and Bounty Hunters is fine but why penalise the pure breeds for it?

Now what do mercs have to defend against everyone else? +6 on each really helps no one.

Shocked, astounded and somewhat let down by the one game that always was there to give me some entertainment when there was nothing else, this must be why a lot of fellow founders have disappeared and here I was thinking that it can't be that bad. (curses and I just brought more varium too) Well from a long time player it really is that bad, support mercs got off quite well though with this Hybrid merc or Tactical merc as I believe that's what they call it.

Can't really type anymore, feeling a bit deflated but sometimes... Change isn't always good.

Well, you're angry. But... you weren't involved in the affairs of staff-player communication so expect to see things you didn't want or expect.

Splitting Merc's Hybrid armor was discussed and implemented over a relatively short period of time. While it may inconvenience some Mercs, others feel relieved by the freedom it gives to increase their DEX and the overall increase in weapons and armor choices for builds. DEX heavy items were less attractive to Mercs then they are now. Perhaps instead of getting "deflated" you should look at this as an opportunity to expand your builds and to find new avenues to use your skills. The Merc class has many interesting advantages if they are exploited to their fullest. I'll leave the explanation of those to the Mercs who make builds for other Mercs.

I don't think it's too bad (I do use Mer) because I always hate how OP HA is (now... how OP other 2 armor skills are >.>) I think this will help Mer to make more build

This is surely a big nerf for Tech Mer however, I agree

They are going to buff Mer, I hope it better be a good one
(I'm expecting Blood Amour being removed)

I think it gives them more freedom.

If you want it the old way then just get a phiscal armour, you will have around +15 defence and +6 res which would be fairly close to the old system.

Their is nothing wrong with it IMO. Besides you're going to find a lot of things changed since you where gone.

I see the split as an improvement actually. Saves from wasting a turn on splitting it to Res and frees players up from having to invest so much in tech and having low dex where they don't block or hit as much.

Also surprised your not more concerned about the change to Founder. I still don't like that one.

Wiseman [ED Balance Team] also mentioned that they were looking at changing Field Commander and Intimidate, plus they might one day replace
Blood Shield with an all new skill. add that to the "new" final skills for the 3 evolved classes and mercs will go back to being a powerful unique class.

I get impatient too at how long it takes to implement changes, but then many were completely unexpected and ended up working great, so no panic.

Give this game a few days, and you'll see everything they've done to EpidDuel since beta. Its a whole new game, and not a better one.

Not sure what else has changed over the years, seems like a lot based on other threads.

I see some say it's an improvement or a chance to "recreate" a build, but why would I want to change a build that took years of retrainings, and $$$ in varium to get just perfect. Talk about throwing a spanner in the works and i'm not about to waste more years and money to retrain in a completely different skill tree that I have no idea about or have any use for, Tachtical merc? just a stylised name for support merc really which was the bane of many complains quite some time ago, my build was created to be as defensive as possible against support mercs and mages...

Need to think about ED and whether or not it's worth continuing with, they should have an account deletion button for people wishing to quit or is there something like that?

As a BH, I love how Merc's got split to +6 +6. No more +12/+13 powerhouse on Defense that my Smoke needs to power through. Now I can do 6 more damage per hit on Mercs.

@Scar: you're probably right, if change is not your thing then this game is not for you. The one thing you can count on here is change, not good or bad, just change.

I'd say either adapt to the changes or try the Minecraft thing? Either way, GL.

Yeah...it kinda messed me up too, now I have to find a new build to be comfortable with ;3

@ Scar, you might have missed this then: Delta 1.3.1 - Wednesday, August 17th, 2011 - Balance Breakdown

Basically, this was the one of the updates that broke mercs, because they switched the damage calculations from strength damage + weapon damage to weapon damage only for the % based damage skills, and re-rated the damage % and energy consumption used.

It made intimidate and field commander useless skills, since they barely do anything to reduce the damage or improve your own damage when using the % based damage skills. The increased damage is based on weapon equipped. So when you face an opponent that can reduce your def/res and is almost immune to your de-buff then things are not good.

There are now more classes that regain energy or health, reduce def/res and yet they nerfed mercs out of existence!

As, a long time merc the hybrid change is not that bad, it's what was done prior that made the most difference. If you recover from your despair and find a build please pm it too me as I would be interested in feedback from other mercs trying to find a build that works!

Here is my current build, gives you 4 good hits in 5 turns provided no one drains your energy and I think I got some early wins from it when it had some shock value...

I do have to say that i miss Old ED around the beta because thats when they had lots of people making build for the top ops like.. i still remember when there were loop healers. You could not kill then hahaha.
But now lots of things are gone.. im not going to spead money on this game no more. *Walks around fighting in Founders Armor/Soul Ripper* =D

Yeah! Right as i said before and still saying Balances will never ends... Since the New CLasses launched up/ They need to make them Equals in everything because now there is a lot of players in every class and they got to take consider of every Opinion and as i mentioned to Cinderella in Epic duel's official facebook page that taking consider just of AEF isn't enough to make an Enough Fair balances that's why they implemented a new system that allows them to track how changes they make affect overall balance on the live servers- They call it “The Balance Tracker” .... SO i hope you just stay in touch and if you was right they will fix this Wrong balance ...

The changes to hybrid Armor were made during the last Balance Update on January 13th, as mentioned in this Design Notes Post.
