As you go through the forums in these next few days, you will notice several changes occurring in Creative Art. Bear with the changes and I will keep you all posted on what exactly has changed, why I've changed it to the best of my ability.

First of all, thank you for the wonderful suggestions for the forum name. In the end, I felt like "The Gallery" was a simple name that carried all the weight this forum needed.

While Gallery of Creative Adventurers was a fun name as well, I felt it had the same issues as Creative Art did and does.

I look forward to working with all of you as we begin to wake up the sleeping giant I know The Gallery is, and to see a lot of our artists come back. We move on to the future and learn from the issues of the past to constantly improve.

 Interesting choice in gearing the organization of galleries by their inspiration...

Hmmm...I somewhat dislike the layout but only for one reason:I am far too lazy to want to have multiple galleries. I do a lot of fanart as well as original work so...hectic <_>

But besides that, sounds fun.

 so if I were to make a tag with an anime or game character stock, i'd have to post it in a different section?
seems silly
either have one section for all art, or split by media
it's sad to do, but it's really only logical
really, you could do away with the whole galleries section and make the commentary area the showcase
the separate gallery/critique section never made any sense to me
i know it's to make it easier for game staff to find prospects, but it just creates a huge mess and hassle for us artists
hate to be the stick in the mud here, and i'm not against change, but i've been in this art section for seven years now
I've also run my own art forum, and moderated here and on others
I know what works and what people like

plus I'm pretty sure GoCA won the poll :p

I agree with TheShadowed1 also... it's a hassle to have to manage 3 different galleries. It'd be better IMO to have different sections for the medium used to create the art. Like GIMP, Flash, Drawing, and etc... it'd mean we'd still have to have multiple threads to show off but we would be able to seek out art based on the media used to make it, rather than art-specific genre's.

 Ts1 pretty much summed up my feelings as well. There's no denying that changes were needed, but I don't know that moving toward a layout more like L&L's is the way to go.

That said, I'll try to keep an open mind until everything is in place.

 see, separating by medium is fine, but we ran into an issue with factions
where-in digital kids would only talk to each other and likewise elsewhere
this area is inactive enough without quartering off ourselves

 First of all, I like the new changes.
They bring a fresh breeze to The Gallery (name change too!), and I also like the new section for tournaments / collaborations / events.
Anyway, I must say I agree with what TheShadowed1 said, as a lot of other people.
You see, there is no reason two flash artists will post in different sections, only because one draws AE inspired characters and the other anime inspired characters. (Also, AE's art is inspired by other video games, anime and manga, so the current separation isn't really appropriate).
Yet, separation by medium isn't good too. I think The Gallery should encourage collaborations and interaction between different mediums, not discriminate between them.

This new structure is similar to L&L one (which I would say proved itself, since it is used here too), but there are minor differences between the new gallery structure and L&L's one, which causes a lot of problem. For an example, L&L got AE universe work, poems, and others. The gallery, on the other hand, doesn't even have an "other" section, but an "original works" section, which I find rather confusing (if your artwork isn't original, you are in a problem. The AE inspired weapons that I drew are as original as any signature that you can find, maybe even more since I don't use any stocks).
To sum up, I love the new Gallery Events section, but I think Art Galleries one got too much sub-forums. I also love the name change (maybe GoCA won, but you must agree this name is too long). Now the IRC channel name matches the forum.

Hmm. Love the name change, since I never did like the name Galleries of Creative Adventures. (too long) And the gallery events section seem fun.
This new gallery structure is quite... confusing however. Since there are now sections for different inspiration sources does this mean I have to split up my gallery into the different sections if you have pictures with inspiration from different sources or do I just put a link to my gallery in all the relevant sections?
Personally, I don't think there is a need for seperation (either by source or by medium) I mean that just makes it difficult for the people who use multiple sources or mediums. If a distinction between the medias are really needed, we could just request the titles to include [DA] (digital art), [HD] (hand drawn), [F] (flash), etc, with more than one label if relevant. Since the gallery is already inactive enough. Causing artists to have more trouble when setting up their gallery, and seperating them isn't going to help with the inactivity.

seems like a good time to get back into updating my gallery again :P

but a few questions about the new layout
like with the others, the different gallery sections is kinda iffy. are we allowed to have more than one gallery in different sections?
and i've also noticed that the gallery threads are now reply-able, so can we make use of that for sections and such?

 I'm also with TS1 on this one. Partitioning the galleries off by theme doesn't really make much sense. My gallery is in AE inspired works for whatever reason even though I only have about 5 AE pieces versus about 30 other non-AE pieces. If you have to separate the galleries, it would be best to do so by medium. Hand Drawn/Flash/GIMP would be one section, Music would be another section and Digital another section. I don't really dabble in the other mediums aside from Hand Drawn and occasionally GIMP, but that's how it was before and it worked. I'm also going to have to agree with TS1 on the whole separate critique section. I never understood the point of it and it really does make it more of a hassle, having to put your new stuff in your gallery and then go to another section and put it there and just keep going back and forth. When the critiques were just replies to the original gallery post it was a lot easier to manage one's gallery. If the goal is to bring back old members, I feel putting things back to the way they were when this place was alive and active and all of those old members were here would be ideal. Like Dylan said, not to be a stick in the mud, but I've been part of these forums for a while (not as long as him, he's old :P), and of all of the reincarnations of this place, the old system is what worked best.

 And now my gallery is in the AE section? That's funny.
This whole "inspiration" this is a real joke, and entirely subjective, at least from my point of view as a "graphic designer" and "fine digital artist" (even though I just make signatures)
what I'm inspired by changes from piece to piece
my anatomy studies are inspired by the artist Francis Bacon
most of my signatures, even if using an anime render or game sprite, are usually inspired by whatever movie i'm watching, the music i'm listening to, or even my fellow artists and idols
do you want to make a separate section for all of that?
If I don't make 100% of my work, is it not considered an "original piece"?

Also there's the things that slip between the cracks
The fanart area is for anime and video games. I do lots of fanart but mainly for British television shows and then music. I put those in with my original art gallery as they're original art by me but they're not original characters.
I think if you split it up it should be by media or by what you do (drawings or tags or whatever else there is). It's much too hard to keep up with separate galleries.

To address the problem of "it's too much work to keep up separate galleries", having given it some more thought, I don't think it really is. I understand the initial set up of a gallery might be more work because you have to make more than one thread. However I can't see it being much more work, all it requires is the thought of "which thread does this piece of art belong in". I don't really see there being much upkeep to the gallery thread itself because you still have only one commentary thread in which you have to reply to comments.

Also, if you feel some of your work slips between the cracks, I don't think it'll be too much of a problem if something that is borderline ends up in Original Works or in the fanart area, plus if you're really having difficulty placing some of your work, feel free to drop one of us a personal message and I'm sure we can help you out.

 There is a VERY BIG difference between offering your opinion on how things are done and being completely rude about it. I am seeing a lot of flat out rudeness by people in this thread.

The changes made were made for a reason. Yes, you may or not like it, but for now this is how it is going to go. By all means, express your opinions, but some of you are on the verge of getting a warning for your attitudes. You are beholden to the rules like everyone else. You are one section in a forum made for Artix Entertainment Games. All forums are to be geared towards the upholding and promotions of the games. Forum rebuilding is designed for that. ALL forums have to go through this.

I highly suggest that some of you perform an attitude check.

 I feel that the gallery got an improvement.

In my opinion, the partitioning which causes most of my fellows here discomfort should not do so.

On the contrary, it should serve as an inspiration. Artists should strive hard to contribute to these additional sections thus increasing their range in the various categories of art.

This recent overhauling comes as an opportunity.

If I may add something else I feel like that if we do have all these different sections for the art and having it still run the same way the CA did it would be too much work. Not only would we have to run three threads we'd have to upkeep a comment section for them. Imo it would be much better if people just commented on the galleries themselves like it was in the old system. Not only would it make it easier for the artists, it would also make it easier for the mods and everybody to keep control of instead of having to go through all the galleries and their comment threads.

Until the changes are complete, the conversation about the partial changes is unproductive to bettering our experience and goals.

Alright, the major shifts are now complete and it is time to see how things run and make adjustments as necessary.

Please read through the rules of each individual forum before you post in them, as they have recently changed.

In particular, note:
  • http://forums2.battleon.com/f/tm.asp?m=20373337, especially the second and third comments

  • You may keep everything in one gallery unless you start to do significant amounts of another style, then you should transfer those to a new gallery in the appropriate section

  • Galleries should start to look like image galleries, with one picture per post as it grows. With your current galleries, you may keep them as is and start adding pictures of new pieces, or put your old stuff in the new format as well.

  • Commentary threads are optional for now. If you simply want to show off your works, that is fine. If you decide to create a thread, remember that the same rules apply as they did previously.

    I would ask that if you have issues or concerns that you cannot address in a positive and polite manner that you address them in a PM to me or one of my AK's and we will get back to you as soon as we can. Try things out and experiment with the new system before you dismiss it because it not the way it once was. Things change and will continue to as long as any community is alive.

    A community that never grows or changes eventually stagnates.

    		 I want to make so that the first post a full list of my works, and then post in the gallery when I have any updates with new pieces. Would you mind if I use my gallery in this manner?

    A multi-post gallery opens up a vast amount of possibilities for organization and update methods. Maybe simply leave a few restrictions on gallery structure to allow an open template for develop creative showcases.

    Overall, I very much like the design of The Gallery, superjars.

    		This will be a growing and learning process as we figure out what works and what doesn't. New rules will come as situations that have not been thought of yet come up.

    Treadlight, that is a perfectly acceptable way to use this new style. The goal is to make something that is both easy to navigate and pleasing to the eye. To look at an index to find a particular work or simply browse through someone's gallery without extraneous clicking.

    		 Well, the newer changes are a huge plus.
    Name changes are small, but an important addition, no confusing "Original Works" section.
    Also, having the ability to have multiple posts in a gallery is a huge advantage. Now, it is possible to make collaborative galleries like they should be done once again (We can do this, right?). This is my favorite part of the changes, and I hope we'll know how to use it properly
    Yet, I'm still not a big fun of the Anime / Video Games Works section, simply because I feel it is unnecessary (this forum got already a lot of subforums, no need to have more of them). From looking over it, I noticed it got a lot of taggers, who use video game characters / anime characters in there tags. Although they do use those characters, their work is far away from being inspired by anime, or video games.
    Also, I noticed that the gallery of Aegis is in this forum. He doesn't make any anime art that I can see, maybe using an anime character or two, but he does make a lot of minigames. Therefore, a question arises. Does making games is "Video Games Works"?
    This is a yes or no question, so two options.
    If the answer is no, I generally don't see why his gallery should be in that section, but it doesn't matter right now.
    If the answer is yes, then I must note that this combination of different galleries we can find in this forum, simply because one makes video games and the other uses anime characters in his tag, is pretty weird.

    Well, image galleries will be interesting, and it's amazing. Having the ability to add posts to your gallery too. I must agree with TreadLight on this one, I really like the changes so far too.
