It's been quite a long time since I last played regularly, about 7-8 years or so? After that I slowed right down on my playtime as I got deeper and deeper into study and work.
But I have a little more time now, and I'm interested in the big updates that I've missed. Particularly the subrace and Paladin updates!

My character is a classic Hybrid, see the character link below, but I'm wondering whether it's worth keeping my Dex investment or not with the Werepyre passive and how nicely the 4 armours cover all the elements I need.
I've also done a fair bit of equipment updating, and I can handle most of the level 150 monsters/challenges thanks to the versatile set of abilities Werepyre comes with (got the UndefeataBlade!).
But what else am I missing? I've read about the so-called "stun meta", and how the Purple Rain spell is supposed to set up an infinite loop? How exactly does it work? Is it for a certain build, or can any character do it with the right equipment?
And what story updates have I missed? I played through the Paladin storyline, what else is worth catching up on?

If anybody can help me out by letting me know how well my character stands up, I'd be much obliged!

Welcome back!

First of all, I'd like to mention that the stat cap has been raised to 250. A fully optimized character can only max out 3 stats now. So, before I give any rating, I'd like to make sure - are you planning to go for the werepyre hybrid build (250 Str/Int/Luck)? It will suffer some accuracy issues if you're using anything outside werepyre armors/weapons, somewhat limiting your equipment choices, but it gives you an extra 250 stats to put into Luck. Or do you want the classic hybrid (250 Str/Dex/Int)? It has more versatility, but tends to be less powerful overall. Also, do you have any z-tokens stored? Because we have some really op miscs in LTS right now, but they cost tokens.

Purple Rain works as a saving point. Cast it the first time to save your current hp/mp/sp, then cast all your buffs/debuffs, then cast Purple Rain again. It will return you (and the monster) to the saved point, but with all the effects left intact. You can check out Purple Rain Loop for more info.

AQ got a new writer, Cray, who picked up the torch when Falerin passed away (rip Loremaster). His largest masterpiece is the Burning Solstice Saga (available via Sage Uldor) and just a few weeks ago he finished the Dragonlorn Keep Saga (at Warlic's; do it after Burning Solstice unless you want major spoilers!).

Ooh, 250 now, huh... Well, on the one hand, the Werepyre armor is mega strong, so it could probably offset the inability to use Ranged weapons... But I really don't like the idea of being totally reliant on one set of armour. I guess I'll look into respeccing at 250 STR/DEX/LUK.

I sold my old house and used the Z-Tokens to upgrade to a new one. I picked up some new misc's from the Z-Token shop to cover all my defensive options, as well as a bunch of GGB's to pick up some of the rare/ultra-rare equipment and build up my gold stockpile for more stuff.

That Purple Rain loop is absolutely filthy! That would've made the final Arena challenge go by a lot faster...

I was so bummed out when I read about Falerin's passing. But it's good to know somebody's stepped in to start making their own mark on the series. Guess I'll check out that Burning Solstice questline next!

Well, you can use other armors with werepyre weapons (earth and dark), but it is rather limiting, yeah.

So, you're respecing to a pure warrior? Are you planning to switch to werewolf subrace?

Whoops, mistyped. I meant STR/DEX/INT.

Gotcha.

Weapons

It might be a good idea to use magic weapons wherever possible. Werepyre armors bring them up to melee level damage and you already have the Poelala pet. There's also the fact that a lot of boosts (miscs, bloodblades, etc) give *4/3 bonuses to magical weapons.

I would suggest switching your no-drop to darkness. All the other elements have some pretty nifty weapons you can use.

If you plan to grab Pyromancer Bloodmage when it comes around, buy Arcane Cutlass of Combustion. It does less damage, but provides the largest available boost to fire spells. Otherewise, pick up Blazing Bloodzerker sword for an hp-costing boost to weapon attacks and fire spells.

Kindred sword can be charged to autohit. With the kindred pet, you can get enough charges every single round.

Arcane Cutlass of Gales gives a hefty bonus to your armor's wind nuke or Warmaster's Burst spell.

There are a lot of good ice weapons, but your Horo Show gives you a source of harm damage, so that's what I suggest you go with.

Terra Bloodzerker sword is a powerful earth weapon. Troll Club can give a stronger boost, but at the expense of your accuracy.

Your Dynamancer's Bloodblade is the strongest available energy weapon.

Gauntlet of Xano (from your vault) has a compressed skill that synergizes nicely with Bloodzerkers (or werepyre Beast Form). If you're planning on using Lumenomancer Bloodmage, Arcane Cutlass of Radiance may ba a better choice.

Armors

Your werepyre armors give you a strong, useful option for every element. The only reason to use other armors would be for their compressed nukes. As such, I'll give you the ones with the strongest nukes available and leave it up to you to decide which ones you want to use.

Pyromancer Bloodmage returns to the Void in ~2 months. With +50% spell damage (paid via hp) and a compressed fire spell with powerful elecomp, it's the strongest fire nuke in the game (barring wizard robes and kindred). Next up is Blazing Bloodzerker (UR GGB). It does +20% damage for an hp cost and has a toggle to lock you to 2x fire damage. A cheap and strong nuke - and has great synergy with Gauntler of Xano skill. A more f2p version would be Torontosaurus Rex with ~2x skill cost and 1.5x skill damage.

Your Moglord Tortress has one of the strongest water nukes in the game.

Grenwog Rider (UR GGB) and Tyranochicken Rex Rider (grenwog seasonal) have a compressed spell-type skill with elecomp. Not particularly exceptional, but still the best there is. Alternatively, you can use your werepyre armors + Warmaster's Burst spell as a wind nuke.

Cryomancer Bloodmage (with Arctic Athame) has the strongest ice nuke in the game, but Horo Show is a strong second choice.

Terra Bloodzerker is the only earth armor worth looking at outside of your subrace no-drop.

Dynamancer Bloodmage has the strongest nuke, followed by Voltaic Bloodzerker + Gauntlet of Xano, followed by Taladosian Robes.

Lumenomancer Bloodmage and White Knight Z (tokens) are by far the strongest contenders. Beast Form + Gauntlet of Xano is a distant third option.

Angel of Souls has a pretty generic weapon-based darkness skill, but it costs hp instead of mp or sp, making it easily spammable.

Shields

Samukematsuri Buckler (from your Vault) restores a bit of sp each time you're hit.

Celtic, Fujin and Scarab remain the best options for their respective elements.

Pies' Cha drive is rather more useful now that Poes use Cha for 25% of their boost.

The updated Ironthorn gives you a Str drive.

Umazen Aspis is a -26 energy shield.

Spells

Your werepyre's Beast Form deals more damage than a spell and at a cheaper cost. As such, there are only a few damage spells worth even looking at:

- D-Burst and Warmaster's Burst deal +50% damage for an hp cost.

- Sizzler 'Splosion sacrifices some damage, but autohits. Useful, considering that wind has a lot of high-MRM mobs.

- Knife to Meat You is a quickcast (doesn't cost a turn) earth spell. Comes back at Mogloween.

Summon Poelala and Call Dunamis give a boost to your magic and melee damage. It may also be worth it to buy Call Thernda spell is you plan on using old standard armors like Taladosian, Horo Show and WKZ.

Essence of Carnage guest (Defiant mode) restores a bunch of mp based on the damage you deal with non-spell attacks.

Purple Rain, of course.

Some of the spells that could be cast inside the PR loop:

- Moonwalker's Grace. Qc Dex booster, costs mp.

- Edoc Imanok. Qc MRM boost, enhances your blocking.

- Angry Trobble. Accuracy boost for several turns. Not qc.

- Imbues (token) are some of the most useful spells in the game. They change the element of your next weapon-based attack/skill (not spell or spell-based skill!) to another element and often have other nifty benefits. Horo Show + Fire Dragon Talon = fire nuke with 50% bonus damage. WKZ + Terror Fist = dark nuke with Fear infliction. Dragonslayer Aura = void damage against dragons.

- New Year's Surprise (token). A qc accuracy boost for several turns. Should come back at Frostval.

Pets

Poelala provides a boost to all your magic damage.

Angra Linnorn gives a bit of melee/ranged damage boost and a bit of Backlash.

Kindred pet provides charges for your kindred weapon.

Miscs

People don't really use defensive elemental miscs anymore - monsters tend to die way too quickly for them to make a difference. If you want a safety net, grab Cyclops' Eye - it should cover all the elements.

Essence Orb and Rejuvenating Necklace take care of your resources. Alternatively, you can grab Z-finity Gauntler: Mind (token) from LTS for a qc mp heal.

Shadowfeeder Pendant is one of the best meta enablers - by clicking on it, you can get qc celerity; great synergy with Purple Rain and any elecomped nukes. Love Potion (comes back at Snugglefest) is another great option, inflicting qc Control. Z-finity Gauntlet: Time (token) can inflict a qc guaranteed stun once per battle (against any monster w/o stun immunity).

Your Goggernaut Helm gives a cheap accuracy boost to every attack on the field, without the usual /2 for spells.

There are quite a few damage miscs for you to choose from. Eye of Osiris gives Str, Int and bth. Murderator Gauntlet gives Str, Int, a bit of Cha and has a chance to inflict Control. Grakma Warhorn's Berserk gives a notable damage bonus (not /2 for spells, making it the strongest spell booster), but at the expense of accuracy. Z-finity Gauntlet: Power (token) inflicts qc EleVuln.

Bell Shell heals a bit of your hp based on damage dealt. The heal is less than CoRS', but it also doesn't reduce your damage, making it an overall better choice for FO builds.

Hope the info's useful and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions!

Wow, that's a huge amount of hugely useful information. It's hard for me to think that there's such a big push towards putting out massive damage to end fights quickly considering how boss fights used to about weathering the storm, what with the 20-turn expected clock for them and all. It's gonna take me a while to get into the idea that low HP is all good as long as my enemy hits 0 before I do.

It looks like I'll have to see about getting some of my Z-Tokens back from the defensive miscs. But I think I'm outside the 48 hour window for the big sell price, so I guess I'll be out a few of them.

If the recommendation is to go full Magic on the weapons, maybe I will try 250 STR/INT/LUK. If I don't vibe with it, I can always just retrain. I think I'll take the recommendation to go with Dark for my no-drops, and I should have enough other magic options to fill out the remaining slots.

So for the "nukes", I can have Destruction Burst cover Fire/Dark, Warmaster Burst cover Wind, Moglord Tortress covers Water, Gauntlet of Xano + Werepyre covers Light, Taladosian covers Energy, and Horo-Show covers Ice... Is there anything aside from GGB/Z-token options for Earth, or is Terrazerker currently all there is?

For earth, there's the Hunter armor, but its skill is spell-type (so half-boost from poelala and bloodblade) and only has 1.5x elecomp.

Not that great - even your lvl 9 werepyre skill is stronger.
