So in light of the latest update, I did some testing to see if i circumvent some progression locks that would normally prevent you from leaving Oaklore. In Book 1, you are now barred from leaving Oaklore until you finish both Rolith's and Sir Valence's quests respectively. However by going to Book 3 without finishing it's intro and by using it's travel map to visit Sunbreeze Grove, you can bypass the lock where there's an npc that would bar you going outside since the latter area is a free roaming area that borders between Oaklore and Falconreach. If you went to Falconreach via portal, there's nothing that would force you to go back to Oaklore except a few Npcs like Ash and Sir Viss that would urge you to go back. But if you were go to Oaklore and travel to Falconreach by foot, you'll likely notice that you went pass the bar. Circumventing the progression lock ends when you attempt the Zombie Hydra quest as finishing the quest WILL NOT be counted as the completion required to progress the story of Book 3. Upon finishing the quest, you'll be moved back to the screen where the Hydras await. Normally something this like this would be inconsequential but with the idea that you can save time to repeat the quest without having the need to interact with Sir Pent, you can farm sums of exp as the quest hands out loads of it upon completion. I'm not too sure if it applies vice versa since I never tested it. I've tried reporting it to the Bug Tracker but never once got a response or saw any effort to fix the issue. I'm convinced that this is an oversight that was intentionally left out due to limited resources as I'm aware that the development team is small and that there's only a few full timers working on this game. By posting this, I'm expected to warrant a response from the mod team and be reprimanded so take it as you will.
