Slay Bells!

Location: Battleon » Click on Miss Fixit » Kringle the Barbarian?

Note: Text that has been grayed out are not available as dialogue now.

Aelthai: «You», hi there! I'm Aelthai - also known as Miss Fixit, among many other names.
Aelthai: I bet you're wondering why I'm here! I'm one of the Knights of Order (or KoO if you prefer). We are responsible for making sure Lore retains the balance intended by Lorithia.
Aelthai: I'm also the AdventureQuest Bugs Head Moderator - and so I was elected spokesKnight for this.
Aelthai: I'm here today to announce the recent changes, updates, and improvements - fixes, even - we have made.
  • What did you fix this time?
  • Kringle the Barbarian is back!
  • Heard any new rumors? (Viridian) - Replays Quest for the Viridian! quest
  • Can you tell me about your staff? - Replays Miss Fixit Returns! quest
  • Quest for the Zale - Replays Miss Fixit! quest
  • Back to Town!

    What did you fix this time?
    Aelthai: Rewriting reality takes a lot of time, but we have made good progress! I even took a trip out to the LSS Alteon to give them a hand. This batch of fixes includes:
    Aelthai: Armors with selectable built-in skills now use the "Armor Skills" menu. Any of those skills that are based on your equipped weapon now have a chance to do their special attack.
    Aelthai: (This change to the Armor Skills and weapon specials also affects the armors that are for sale for WarpForcers!)
    Aelthai: The map hanging in Ruisha Gibet's pub in Lolosia now takes you to the new location of Granemor.
    Aelthai: Finally, Gracefang and Nightreign have had their damage capabilities adjusted.

    Kringle the Barbarian is back!

    Aelthai: Do you remember Kringle the Barbarian? He was a frost elf who got twisted by Visia the Shaper. Instead of spreading Frostval joy, Visia turned him into a destroyer...
    Aelthai: Fortunately for everyone, he was defeated and Frostval was saved! ...But he was a little sore about that, and he's been holding a grudge ever since.
    Aelthai: We heard that he was starting to gather his forces in the Northlands again to try again. We can't deal with him AND Kabbak-- you'll have to stop him! Now that Kabak's been dealt with, you'll have to stop him too!
    Aelthai: Zephyros, one of the other Knights of Order, thinks he's after something... something powerful, and dangerous if he gets his hands on it.
    Aelthai: The Slaying Bells of Ni'Kolas the Red!

    Aelthai: Zephyros has gone ahead to Frostvale. Will you meet him there to learn more?
  • Of course!
  • That sounds really really cold - Return to Quest Log

    «Scene: Frostvale»

    Zephyros: Glad you could make it. We've got quite a big, crazed problem on our hands.
    Zephyros: After Frostval was saved, Kringle came back here and started plotting. Unfortunately for us, when Visia Shaped him, he didn't lose any of his frost elf ingenuity... just his sanity.
    Zephyros: Frost elves weren't always the jolly short fellows who make Frostval toys. Long ago they were warriors, pillaging their way across the tundras and burning everything they couldn't pillage.
    Zephyros: The mightiest of their warlords was named Ni'Kolas. They called him "the Red"... as much for the blood that he spilled as for his bright red suit.
    Zephyros: If you're interested, I can tell you the tale of his fall.
  • Stay a while, and listen
  • ...No thanks, sounds boring. - Skip dialogue to below
    'Twas the night before Frostval, and all through the town
    Not a creature was stirring; they're all dead on the ground.
    The slay bells were hung from the handle by chains,
    Their ringing meant Ni'Kolas soon would bring pain.
    The children were burning, and hearing their cries
    A smile and bonfires danced in his eyes!

    The marshal in his hauberk, while guarding his liege,
    Had just settled in to outlast the siege;
    When outside the gates there arose such a clatter,
    He sprang to the wall to see what was the matter.
    Away to the bulwark he flew like a flash,
    Gazed o'er the ramparts at a world full of ash.
    The moon through the smoke was the color of blood,
    And the army outside had churned snow into mud;
    At the rear of the legion was the source of their dread:
    Eight giant frost wyrms towing a large mighty sled!
    And its giant elf driver made the bravest man ill;
    All saw that Ni'kolas had come there to kill.

    More rapid than eagles his dragons they came,
    And he grunted, and shouted, and called them by name;
    "Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
    On, Comet! on Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen!
    Atop the portcullis! and then over the wall!
    Now the rest of you slackers,

    MAKE THAT BLASTED GATE FALL!"

    As a landslide that down the iced mountainside roars,
    The elf crash at the gate shook the guards to their core.
    And up to the throne room the dragons they flew,
    With the sleigh full of arms, and Lord Ni'Kolas too.
    And then, with a bellow, he lept from the sleigh!
    When the dust had all settled, he exclaimed "LET'S PLAY!"

    The marshal sped back, and entered the yard,
    In time to see Ni'Kolas slaughter the guards.

    He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his toes,
    And his clothes were all stained with the blood of his foes;
    A sack full of skulls he had flung on his back,
    His butcher's prizes spilled from the neck of his pack.
    His eyes -- how they twinkled! his laughter inhuman!
    His cheeks flushed in exertion, his hair matted ruin!
    His wide toothy mouth locked in a wide grin,
    And a tangled white beard descended from his chin;
    The grip of his flail he held tight in his hand,
    And the carol of its bells sang o'er the land;
    His huge bulging biceps stand out as he swings,
    And with each deadly blow his Slaying Bells ring.

    He was mighty and fell, a right savage old elf;
    The marshal blanched at the sight, then gathered himself:
    A steeling of nerve and a soft-whispered prayer,
    He called to Ni'Kolas and met his cold stare;
    Neither spoke a word, both lept straight to their fight,
    Their weapons rang loudly as they clashed in the night;
    The elf was the clear better of this contest,
    But the marshal fought hard -- like one demon-possessed.

    The Slay Bells pealed out our hero's death knell,
    But he found in him one desperate strike as he fell!
    He mightily plunged his blade through the elf's chest!

    "Happy Frostval... to all..." and fell to his rest.

    Zephyros: They threw those Slaying Bells down some icy crevasse or another way out in the Deep Freeze. If Ni'Kolas has found them, then not only will he have quite a weapon...
    Zephyros: ...he'll have a potent symbol around which he can rally an army.
    Zephyros: Fortunately for all of US, he hasn't amassed that army yet. We need to make sure he never does.

    «If you skipped the tale, the dialogue continues here.»

    Zephyros: You go north. Follow this map to an ice cave -- Kringle's inside. Yes, it'll be guarded. I'll stay here and ready some defenses... just in case.
  • Go!«Kringle enters, holding Ni'Kolas' Slaying Bells.»

    «You»: Forget "getting into the holiday spirit," Kringle... I'm going to turn you INTO one!
    Kringle: You're too late!! They're MY Slaying Bells, and I'm going to crush your little blue floob friends and then bury your precious Battleon under a mile of snow!!! WhuahhaahhuhhaaaAAAaaaAAA!
