The supposed focus was PvP however, it is rather absurd how storylines are either wars where missions involve PvPing a certain number of times to drop a certain item or kill a certain NPC several times. It's similar to the other games in that it involves NPCs, but it lacks momentum. It's monotonous- You start a "Mission", it involves winning in PvPs until they drop a certain number of items, then bam, mission complete. Seriously, missions are literally just treated as a free reward system. You start a mission, then go back to your killing spree. Afterwards, you check if you achieved the mission's goal- Complete. Woo, free rewards for something I was going to do anyway~ Missions which are just "Buy x from y, your reward is z" then "Hey, I need z, here, take this reward" mean that the devs are probably running out of ideas on how missions should go. Same goes for above. In truth, however, even I wouldn't know how to immerse someone in a storyline that nobody really cared about seeing as the main point is PvP PvP PvP PvP and PvP.
