@Raddude

Ermmm..... You did read the rules, right? People come in championing an element and we beat the pulp out of each other. It's really fun! ^_^

But just a question...... Why did you apply before knowing what this was about? Shoot first, ask later, wot?

I would highly recommed reading the entire beginning of this thread, explaining how it works. Then I would read applications posted here, and perhaps read some previous Championships, before submitting a bio. If I were you, I would start at the RPA to work on your Role-Playing skills, and try your luck at the Championships next year.

Oh, I don't think he needs to graduate the RPA, really. Just so long as he gets a more substantial bio that doesn't god-mod, he should be fine. Although, reading the first post is definitely a good idea. Otherwise, how would you know what to do? You would have a character, and then what?

quote:

i mean is it just random who competes

Oh, as to this, no. You need a realistic character bio that seems believable. Plus, your attacks aren't allowed to be able to pown everybody, otherwise there's no competition. I mean, with super powerful powers, you could end the tournament in a sentence "And then the stadium blew up and everyone died."

Secondly, controlling other characters is forbidden. Being able to take control of a character can take the fun out of things.

Additionally, for this RP, you can't use any elemental magic other than that of the Elemental God you're supporting. Simple as that.

Additionally, your character gets a wish if you win the tournament. Not you, just the person you make. Like there was a griffon who couldn't fly that wanted to compete so that he could gain his wings back.

I'm saying It's going to be difficult for someone to go from a person who's never RP'd before to one who can create a solid bio in a matter of hours (minutes?) before the competition starts. Even if a bio did get accepted, he would have a hard time seriously competing in the tournament.

Tdub's right.

I remember when I applied for the first time for Galere.

It was a nightmare. But I got through after editing.

Wait, seriously? That's pretty cool. So I guess, since the tournament is suppost to be cannotical for your character, if they win the wish kind-of sticks with them through every RP? What would happen if someone wished to be killed? I guess they would still be the winner, but it would be intresting to see how the Elemental Lords would think about that.... Well, I know what Skull Knight's going to try and wish for if he wins.... *evil grin*

Yep. From what I can tell, a lot of the competitors are here for the wish-thingy. I'm pretty sure that's how things work at least.

My character isn't here for the wish though. My character is here to pay off a debt.

And if they had a death-wish, all they need to do is let themselves be killed in the preliminaries without making a big show.

Amusing how that can be. When I competed with my namesake character, it was to fulfill a deal. Having the Boon on top to restore Arcadius from his 'tomb' as the Quicksilver Guardian was icing on the cake, and oh so very nice as an extra from the character's point of view. Even if that was the plan all along, but that's neither here nor there.

I guess Aethian'll ask to be human again. Although why, I don't know.

Losing your newfound powers just to go back makes no sense to me.

Last year, Talon competed to earn back his flight. This year, Is'ira is competing out of curiosity and for academical purposes. I'm not thinking about the boon, as I have no illusions of winning. (Even making the finals is a long shot for me - I'm competing for fun.)

@Tdub

Same here. I'm just here for fun.

Well, my character is technically already paid the debt in the eyes of the indebted, but Eyra works differently with promises. Saving someone's life for no reason, in her mind, can only be paid off by risking one's life for that person's glory. Or, in this case, that person's master's glory.

Skull Knight's seriously just here because he got bored and felt like killing something.... Not even kidding. He's just kind-of twisted and messed up like that. Although, once he finds out about the wish, I'm going to have him try to clone himself so he never has to be bored again as his army of him attempts to destroy the planet for the fun of it! Spreading like a virus! Ahha! AH ha ha hahaa!!! AHHHH HAAAA!!!!!!!!!!

*couph*

I mean, he'll wish for a Sombrerro........ Also, I'd imagine he's the type of character who would particularly hate how dull the Truphma are. So maybe something about them instead? I'd imagine while events in AE might be cannotical to the RP forums, the RP forums events would in no way be cannotical to AE, so who knows if it would work or not. Uhh......... Yeah, I think he'll go with Sombrerro or an endless sack of bricks to throw at people. Cause that's just how he rolls.

Snjór Hlýju is competing because... she is constantly in pursuit of perfection and bettering herself. And, to be able to say "I am just as great as I believe". Don't take that as a snobby, self-loving attitude. She's spent her life trying to prove she is great without fitting into the societal norm. Perhaps, if she comes back victorious, or better than when she set out, she will be one more step closer to changing the attitudes of her people.

Approved - very interesting character. One that I'd love to see in action.

— Phaera Avn —
(Fae : ruh / Ah : ven)

Age: Twenty-two.
Gender: Female.
Race: Human, one-third Elven by blood.
Element: Wind.
Link to first post: Of Limps and Lessons Impending.

Appearance: Oft mistaken for a man at first glance, Phaera inhabits a slightly malnourished frame of five feet, six inches and a hundred and seventeen pounds, crowned with a disheveled pageboy cut of golden hair (after a year's abandoning the shaved style of monks) hiding eyes of glinting river-blue. Spindly but not frail, she wears clean, lightweight, close-fitting robes for travelling and ease of movement. The only other paraphernalia she carries is a weathered staff inset with curious runes for support when slowed by a light limp and, if worse comes to worse, self-defense.

Abilities: As a WindWeaver, Phaera holds multifaceted skills at her disposal. Strength and scope correspondent with her emotional level and energy reserves, the ex-monk can alter atmospheric pressures to guide breezes or whip up maelstroms at will. Applying a higher focus, Phaera can compress air for brief periods of time into dull "blades" along her arms and legs or "plates" to cover hands, feet, or elsewhere, allowing her to block and deflect physical attacks when necessary. While not an impossible feat, adapting these tactics at a distance grows incredibly challenging the farther the attempted range.
Along a different vein, Phaera may also alter chemical aspects of any surrounding air, granting her the ability to thin oxygen levels in mimicry of higher altitudes; perhaps the most honed and favored of her skills, the wandering ex-monk has built up a resistance to such "altitudes" over time by keeping the oxygen of air in a sphere ten feet in diameter centered around herself at perpetually low levels. Being a conscious ability and requiring minimal effort after many years of practice, oxygen counts will return to that of the normal altitude in Phaera's immediate surroundings only when she is knocked unconscious (thanks to a not-so-distant elven heritage, the ex-monk does not need sleep in the way humans or humanoid beings might; an average span of five to six hours in moderate meditation and quieting of the mind allow Phaera a full rest and recuperation, while still maintaining this constant protective alteration to her environment).
Any being not adapted to altitudes higher than 2,000 feet that attempts to remain longer than a minute within Phaera's vicinity will suffer effects identical to severe altitude sickness — rapid fatigue, light-headedness, nausea, dizziness, headaches, and in more extreme cases, unconsciousness — giving this skill phenomenal worth as a passive defense. If ever feeling in favor of stamina over defense, however, the young woman can release her oxygen depletion to return the surrounding air to normal "altitude", allowing her body's efficient oxygen-processing to award a slight boost in speed, strength, and agility.
Strengths: Very difficult to knock off her feet when standing her ground; using wind almost as a second sight by feeling the shifting winds for clues and patterns of movement; incredibly patient and observant, letting physical assailants tire themselves out while she deflects and diffuses blows.
Weaknesses: Lacking in physical strength; moderately vulnerable to long-range and magical attacks; cannot move quickly at all due to limping on the right knee.

Personality: Not much of the bubbling fountain that once was Phaera's soul is left behind. Pained loss has replaced whatever joy she once found in simply living and living simply.Though she holds true to lifelong morals and will help another whenever seems necessary, every action rings through a hollow, crumbling heart. As much as Phaera would avoid admitting to herself, a deep undercurrent of longing to escape her memories lurks beneath a calm surface and gentle hands.

History: Abandoned on the doorstep of a monastery as an infant, Phaera knows little of her heritage save the worn fabric of a tale passed down by her caretakers, who speak of a frigid fall night's sudden knock and the willowy form of an angle-eared woman seeming to meld with shadowed trees. Unable themselves to turn the child away, the monks lovingly raised and celebrated the bubbling influence of a child amongst their midst.
With a glad spirit the daughter blossomed within her new home, happily adopting the lifestyle and fashion of her fathers as she came of conscious age. Lessons in meditation, self-defense, and openness of heart became Phaera's joy as she grew, and when a budding aptitude for Wind magic became apparent in the young girl's playful pranks, monkess of thirteen years eagerly agreed to travel to the Temple of the Four Winds in hopes of further blossoming her skills.
For eight years she studied as an acolyte to priests there, training diligently to strengthen her powers, before falling into a forbidden, whirlwind affair with a visiting noble's youngest son, Daecius. Despite innocence and a genuine depth to the young couple's feelings for one another, the only reward Phaera received for her few months of hopeful bliss was kidnap, forced to watch her lover perish at the hands of a proud and evil-hearted father before being beaten nearly to the Void herself, losing her unborn child in the process.
Grief and Agony lay waiting for Phaera the moment she woke, lying in the bed of a kindly doctor who had stumbled upon her broken body discarded and left for dead in an unlit alley. Months passed before muscles would comply once more, and only grudgingly at that, forever sentencing the ex-monk to scars and a weakened left knee that would never fully heal.
Disillusioned and betrayed by the light she had once found in life, Phaera wandered as a beggar and pilgrim in aimless search for answers to her haunted memories. Whispered murmurs of an upcoming Elemental Championship and the gathered Lords broke the young woman from her stagnant sense of purpose, and with a timid heart she placed her name amongst the ranks of contestants. The only hope Phaera holds now is that, against all odds, she might find favor with and beg of the Lord of Wind a pair of wings to escape the forsaken path on which she treads.

Approved - May Rowan find some peace in the heat of battle.

Name: Rowan Moonstone

Race: Human

Gender:Male

Age: Appears to be in his late 20’s

Element: Darkness

Appearance: Around 5’9, Rowan is a decently fit young man, with the build of someone who’s worked with both spell and sword on a regular basis. His skin sports a few simple weapon-based scars from training or accident, and his skin is a pale color, since he spends most of his time in the light-absent DoomWood and AmityVale. Rowan’s armor that is extremely similar to that of Artix the Paladin or the trademark Death Knight, save for a few personal modifications. Two “Death-Knight Gold” horned skulls adorn Rowan’s Pauldrons, and two non-horned skulls of the same design are placed on the lower forearms of his arms. Besides that, the armor is identical to that of a Death Knight. His hair is a solid black, with a few streaks of dark brown beneath, if one were to look close enough and a pair of deep, ocean-blue eyes compliment the young appearance.

History: A young man whose father was a Necromancer of the darkest kind, and mother was a High Priestess of Swordhaven, Rowan moonstone has been shown both the Light and Darkness of Lore, and that the two do, in fact, attract one another. His mother kept his Father, Tomas, from the madness of the shadows and he kept Solara Moonstone from being blinded by the light too severely. After his father’s murder by an over-zealous Paladin while on a task from Alteon himself, Solara clung to the only thing she had left. Her son, who reminded her so much of her lost love. While Rowan himself was too young at the time to truly understand the loss of a parent… he did always wonder why his father never came home.

A few years of peace followed and despite their loss, the Moonstone’s had moved on and found a new happiness…until the darkness once again came to snatch away a loved one. When a viscous Necromantress assaulted SwordHaven, Rowan found himself watching from his cottage window, in terror, as the undead fought the Pactagonal Knights and his mother fought the twisted Necromantress herself. Just when he thought his mother was going to succeed, the evil woman released a power like he’d never seen and ended his mother right before his eyes, then fled. The Knights never did figure out the woman’s true reason for attacking the Kingdom. Now alone and sobbing at his mothers corpse, Rowan had seen the Light fail to protect his mother and he didn’t understand why.

So, as darkness pressed at the young man’s mind as he grew older, alone and lost, he saw only one solution. If the Light was not strong enough to defeat the Darkness, then he would use the darkness itself. “Fight fire with fire…” he called it. The young man trained with sword and martial combat from the Pactagonal Knights around SwordHaven, showing a ferocity in combat that the Knights were often shocked by. Once Rowan felt he was ready and had earned enough funds to travel from various jobs around SwordHaven, the young man set off for DoomWood. There, he planned to hunt for the fabled Necropolis and Necromancy University.

The years pass, and Rowans skill with magic soon matched his martial abilities. While summoning was a part of his education, Rowan’s abilities were more focused on pure Shadow manipulation. After a full 6-year education at the Necro U, Rowan began his journey as one to fight the Darkness…using the Darkness itself.

At hearing about an elemental championship, Rowan at first dis-regarded it as an entertaining waste of time…until he heard of the reward, a wish granted to the victor. His first and only thought…was he could wish for his family back, those who the darkness had taken from him.

Personality: Rowan wears a polite, moderately friendly composure, one of manner that his mother taught him. He’ll occasionally use his dry-bone humor and have a little fun, but he never lets joys distract him from his task of locating the Necromantress who killed his mother. In combat, Rowan is relentless. His repressed anger and emotions pour from him like the shadows from his blade, and while for most this would cause the person to become reckless, with Rowan it creates a needle-sharp accuracy and focus.

Weapons

Undead Sword of Necrosis: A blade that shares a design with the Necrotic Sword of Doom, while lacking the incredible power, it still sports the wicked blade design and was forged with light-weight materials. This allows Rowan to either throw or swing the sword with quick, precise movements.

Abilities

Necrotic Throw: Rowan tosses his sword at his opponent for a ranged attack and then pulls the weapon back to its owner with a shadow bolt, returning the weapon to him.

Shadow Claws: Rowan forms shadows around his gauntlets, creating a thick skin of darkness and short but sharp claws. This requires little mana and is one of Rowan’s go-to’s for close-quarters combat.

Skulls will Roll: Rowan forms a skull made from raw, volatile shadows and launches them at his target, where if they should make contact, will release their shadowy contents with impressive force. This also uses little mana, but if used enough, this can be an easy way to suck himself dry.

Shadow Bolt: Rowan launches a bolt of darkness from either his sword or his palm, though its incredibly easier to use this ability when he has his sword as a channel, like a Caster would use a staff or wand. When using his palm, the bolt is still useful, though can tend to be a little inaccurate.

Martial Skills: Having trained with the Pactagonal Knights for quite a while, Rowan sports a little above average swordsmanship, but where his true strength lies is in his hands. If deprived of sword and spell, Rowan will not fail to resort to basic but merciless blows, jabs and hooks to attempt to defeat his foe.

Shadow-Step: Rowan sacrifices a decent amount of mana to shift his body into a shadowy form and quickly move from one location to another. As quickly as this is done, it's very taxing on the user’s mana and cannot be done many times without totally exhausting the Caster.
Necrotic Orb: Rowan sacrifices all mana to form a sphere of swirling shadows around himself. The quickly moving energy will attempt to dissolve any spells that attempt to harm the character, but are less effective versus melee blows. Light spells can pass right through with no difficulty.

Weaknesses
-Rowan, despite having had a High Priestess for a mother, is severely weak to light magic and has sensitive eyes if the Light is severe enough, since he spent so long in DoomWood and AmityVale.

-Rowan is not the most agile fighter, and relies on his armor to protect him if he fails to either dodge or block a blow.

-Prefers to be up close and personal, often putting himself at odds with a Spell-based enemy.

*Pulls Necro and Aura to him, patting them on the shoulder and ruffling Aura's hair* I am glad yet saddened at your entrances. I am glad to see my fellow phoenixes showing interest in RPing, but am discerned that you may stand in the way of Jackel winning. I suppose it is just another obstacle though.

I look forward to competing with both of you, arrogant bragging aside. Your characters are both interesting and well thought out. A shame they must fall, eh? ;D
