After the stat cap upgrade and the game being re-balanced for three stats at 250 instead of three stats at 200 and one at a lower number, a lot of builds were essentially killed off and for the most part pure builds are the only viable way to play. Characters like Beastmasters and Beastmaster hybrids got especially nerfed because in addition to the stat rework, the rework of how pets can inflict statuses nerfed them even harder, since it's much harder to inflict statuses on monsters now.

At the time, there was talk of re-working stats so that DEX was not required for nearly every build, but that hasn't been talked about in a long time. I was just curious as to whether the Staff at AQ are still looking into finishing this? Or are we sticking with the game being balanced around pure builds only for now?

I hope I'm not coming across as being overly negative, that's not my intention. But I've been playing this game off and on since 2007 and recently I've lost motivation to continue playing my main character due to the Beastmaster Mage playstyle I've been using since I learned what character builds were being essentially taken out of the game due to the stat re-balancing. Again, this really isn't to complain, I'm genuinely curious as to whether anyone's still looking at actually re-working the stats to make non-pure builds or builds with mixed stats viable again. Hope this can spark some polite discussion and brainstorming!

I'd love to have more stats able to be maxed

Beast mage is a completely fine build. I'm curious how you feel like it has been nerfed?

If you are concern about Beast Mage, it is still a viable build. My main is a beast mage.

I should be more specific. The FO, offensive beast mage, or what was once called annihilator beast mage on the old guides, was nerfed hard due to being forced to bump INT up to 250 and having to choose to either drop LUK altogether in order to max out CHA and DEX, therefore losing out on lucky strikes and initiative completely, or continue without max CHA and DEX and have your pets rarely work and not enough DEX to avoid hits. The pet status nerf right afterward now means that you pretty much have to have CHA maxed in order to get anything out of your pets/guests, but having 0 LUK really hurts. The initiative bonus, lucky strikes and extra to-hit/dodge bonuses are really missed.

So my problem is that I still want to play with pets and guests, but don't want to change my character over to an FD build. This used to not be a problem with the four stats, because you could have three maxed and another high enough to matter. I'm not sure why that fourth stat was deemed "useless" by the staff and the game re-balanced around only three stats. It simplified builds, yes. Just max out three stats. But the fourth stat you used to have those so-called "leftover" points in was far from trivial. The new system seems to have decreased build diversity, not added to it. Mostly due to DEX still being the most necessary stat for the vast majority of builds. Offensive builds need it because they want to hit things. Defensive builds need it because they need to avoid getting hit if possible.

There was talk at the time of re-working the stats so that DEX wasn't the be-all, end-all stat, but that just got dropped and forgotten about over the last year or so.

I fully admit that part of the reason I'm bringing this up is mainly because I always enjoyed playing my character a certain way, and that playstyle got the nerfbat so I'm salty about it. But I do think it's still a legitimate issue and it was being discussed quite a bit when the stat cap change first came out. But as with many things in AE, over time people just forgot about it and the last word was that it was being worked on, but then it got dropped altogether. So I'm sure most people have switched playstyles now, and that's fine. I still think it was a poorly thought out and implemented change, and it came with almost no warning or discussion beforehand. I recall quite a few other people remarking on how this hurt hybrid builds and encouraged pure builds at the time.

The stat reworking hasn't been forgotten, just put on hold. Kaelin was working on the project but RL happened and they are no longer with us.

I didn't know Kaelin had left, I'm sorry to hear that :(

But thanks for replying, Hollow. Hopefully that's one of the projects that can get picked up again soon.
