Been comfortably grinding away at the game since returning and just hit 80, I have been doing some of the Inn challenges and I really enjoy the harder content, unfortunately a lot of it seems to just be too hard for me ,an example for me here would be Zeclem, the DeathKnight, his turn 1 debuffing makes the fight very difficult, applying the debuffs even while missing the attack itself, I'm just wondering how people manage to clear some of this harder content, with enemies health being so high, or damage output just falling short, I'm using Riftwalker currently using STR/END, if this isn't a viable option, or if better options exist for non-DC classes, please let me know.

To start this off, yes, STR builds are near-nonexistent in the Inn format since, if I may quote a previous statement I used to assist a previous returning player:
quote:

players need to unleash as much damage as possible through big crits (200 INT) or DoTs (200 DEX)

Your level and class isn't much of an issue, although Zeclem isn't really much of a problem in and of itself (you'll encounter MP crisis than anything, unless you're a techno and into that thing). Endgame battles have always oftentimes had high HP and damage combinations, while more modern Inn fights weakening defensive plays (shields and blinds) due to high Bonus. While it is possible to win without following the standard issue Inn build (at lvl 90: 200 INT or DEX, 200 END, 45 WIS), it can be riskier. To cite such a case, I used my default stat config of 130 STR, 130 INT, 100 WIS, 85 END against your Zeclem using techno. I could win, but my lower HP means I'm on the ropes faster than the norm. That build alone also served me well in AARGH as a Pirate when I was farming for the Engineer's wings and Uragiri, most of the time not dropping near or below 50% HP. While I can understand roleplaying is a part of the gaming community, endgame fights do encourage one to master various classes.

Finally, equipment. There's a reason why we can link our AE games accounts to our AE forums account (in this case, DF). It allows us more veteran players to see how much work you need to get up to par, although most Inn battles don't need highly specific gear to win. Those that do oftentimes are due to requiring specific elemental resistances over All resist due to crazy damage output (e.g. Egomaniacs, Ice and Dragons). Since we have to deal with Inn fights on a case by case basis, please post on the Battle Strategy Thread. If you can't wait for a response there, @AstralCodex and @Korriban Gaming's YT pages have comprehensive vids to deal with Inn battles. @Astral's is most often friendlier to starters and provides a stat+equipment config list on his vid's comments, while @Korriban's works under the assumption that you already know which gear and stat combis are necessary, and oftentimes he only focuses on the duo, trio, or quartet of a board's column (unless its the f2p edition of his vids, where the solos are showcased.).

Hi Silvinex!

The key to inn fights is preparation. You want to know what the boss does, what classes matchup well, and what gear to use. I recommend reading up on boss fights on the DF Endgame wiki or Forums, and then consulting videos on Youtube if you want more details.

Riftwalker is a great choice for Challenge fights. Indeed, it can clear every fight in the inn without food or extra potions (though some, like Challenger Gauntlet, may require ridiculously good RNG). I do think amongst the NDC classes, Technomancer and Ranger are stronger on average, but not by very much.

STR/END is indeed generally the way to go with Riftwalker, as you have neither a powerful autocrit nor a real DoT skill. I disagree wtih Laeon's statement that STR builds are nonexistent. Insofar as it's true, it's more a statement of the fact that most classes favor INT/DEX than STR for boss fights, and not that you should use INT or DEX on every class. That being said, your mainstat generally doesn't matter that much, as long as you stick to 200 Mainstat/200 END and don't do anything too silly like use STR on +crit spam class.

It's not just you. Most of these challenges live up to their name, with some of them made to be near impossible. To this day I still have yet to get through most of them, although I can say that reading up on each individual opponent can go a long way when trying to determine strategy.
