Book 1 Revisited: Warlic's Tent!
Hey there, heroes!

This week, we're revisiting Warlic in Book 1! From visiting Warlic to the first time, to getting your egg, we've updated quests, added music, rewards, fixed typos, and more!

Warlic's Dragon Egg Saga quests have been updated! Here are some highlights!
  • Crossing the Line and Summoning Help now have drops!
  • Some of Warlic's quests and requests now give a one-time drop of 3000 Exp each, to help you get to level 12 before the Doomkitten fight (only accessible if you have not completed these quests yet).
  • The Doomkitten fight has been reworked and now has mechanics!
  • The path to Lymcrest and beyond are now blocked off until you save the town, as a result of the rampaging elementals.
  • Some of Warlic's dialogue has also been adjusted!
  • You can now freely change your dragon egg design!
  • And more!

Also this week, we have new cosmetic weapons available for sale from the DC Cosmetics shop!

The DragonBond weapons can be purchased for 400 Dragon Coins each! These cool weapons change their glow color to match your dragon's eye color.

Some other updates this week:
  • The BDToG finale's drops have been changed. It will now have a shop for you to get your reward, and instead drop a Defender's Medal with a chance at the cosmetics!
  • A new Artax cosmetic is now available for merge and drop.
  • The reward from Your Dragon at the Inn can now be merged with the BDToG reward!
  • Keybinds have been reworked behind the scenes for a future update. They should hopefully be working the same as before.
  • Except, opening quick sheets is now done with the O and P keys respectively.
  • Some trinkets have been properly pdated that were missed last week
  • Anything else I may have forgotten!

And that's all for this week!

Helpful!

Clearly the solution to DragonLord not being able to use the new trinket is to add Young Dragon as a growth stage (copium)

A few thoughts about the new release!
-DoomKitten is yet another boss that tutorializes game mechanics in conjunction with base class skills as they're unlocked, and acts like a final test of all the mechanics the player has learned up until this point. This is super clever design and I cannot give it higher praise.
-Warlic constantly flipping between his new (post-Storm War) art outside of quests and his old art inside the quests is pretty jarring. Unless there's some story flagging shenanigans going on and the old art (in the DNs image) actually is supposed be shown in the overworld here.
-The old, iconic Fiery Heart of Mt. Shining Star music being replaced is a CRIME. Alexandria burns

In addition to the above the drops in this and previous reimagineds explaining how stats work is also fantastic. Are there any plans to having the formulas shown for everything somewhere ingame at some point?
On a related note after beating up the kitten I wandered around the nearby overworld and walked into lymcrest, Doug Digg has some lines about Xan which might possibly be the most uncanon lines of all time
quote:

Doug Digg: A while ago there was a young human named Xan who lived here. He always had a talent for magic.
Doug Digg: He was always a pain...always actin' like he was better than those around him.
Doug Digg: Last I heard, he was settin' off for the magic school in Swordhaven. You don't think this pyromancer is the same Xan, do you?

Also Honda's Ex still doesnt seem to have its description.

Regarding warlic art- the new art only appears outside after he is resurrected after Storm War, I believe. EDIT: looks like it's not workin right, will poke it later.
Lymcrest and Digg Doug wasnt inside the scope of this week's revisit but we are very aware that Digg Doug's timeframe and Xan talk was and still is inconsistent with current and previous Xan lore.

Is it just me, or the "Esc" keybind is acting a bit weird?

Speaking of the Artax rewards, players may want to be careful in doing post-war DMs acquisition. Just encountered the PalaDragonLord as a rare wave.

How so re: the Esc keybind? Like I mentioned in the DNs, I basically reworked how keybinds were set up, so if Esc is having issues, some details on that would be helpful.

I know I already gave some of my thoughts on the matter over on Discord, but I think it's still better to have them up here for easier accessibility if anything.
Excepting stuff that was already somewhat addressed of course.

While the game has drifted away from big weaknesses, particularly on bosses, it's been somewhat consistent (Inconsistently so, though) that some quest have fairly big enemies (Wrath of Xan is a very lengthy quest with big booties, and now both of the dungeon quests here) that expect you to have weapons that hit their weakness. While the issue might not be so bad as to make the quests overly difficult, I think it's still something to consider.
In particular, the generic elements tend to crop up in a lot of quests, and it might not be a bad idea to give the classes access to basic weapons for those elements as needed.

While something like actual exploration would be preferred, the various options are either horrendously bloated loot pools, or possible DA-exclusive. While I of course support the line of thinking that NDA is merely a very extended demo, I think it's a bit inadvisable to have such a high focus to it early on.
For example, the weapons of Eye-Rule are a pretty good solution to your Water needs. DA-only, no can do.
On the other hand, something like the Falconreach weapons are great, though not currently relevant. Other wars and the like could patch some of these issues up.
Ice weapon access from the Ice Dragon war, which should have occurred prior to Xan could help here for Mt. Hot.

Though it'd be probably more realistic to make use of Falconreach's various shopkeepers to give players access to the basic elements.

I...... like the trinket in principle.
But I hate its execution.
For one thing - it has a loading screen every single time - and then your massive dragon is barely there, for you to admire the work, before they're gone.... into another loading screen.

It could just be me - but for the effort you're making, its concerning.
Especially how DF isn't and hasn't ever really been a majorly graphically intensive game.
So....................................

Yeah. No. Thats not something I'm a fan of tbh.

Regarding the new revamp of the location.
Actually before that.
There's a glitch I've been seeing since day.. idk 3? But since about when I started playing the game.
If you're running as you choose a location on the travel map, you... its janky. Its nothing game breaking and quite funny, but I'm surprised its still there in all honesty.

I'll be honest. I mayhaps need to explore a lot more because I cannot for the life of me tell the difference - maybe I'll need to check back with a fresh or underlevelled character.
That said...
I do agree with Baron Dante about that to an extent. However - we have a LOT of different areas available to us.
Even in the timeline thing in the book, we can see parallel pathways.
I'd like to point out that I'm coming back from major Elden ring usage, so this might be due to that.
Some of that can be used for getting weapons and gear that can help here right? That if the path ahead isn't 100% explorable, you need to see what IS, and go get used to things before attempting the obvious thing in front of you.
Wasn't that... the point of things like side questing? To go exploring instead of having it all available in one place - in ONE central hub or something.
I apologize right now if I've misunderstood what you've said here.

@Roxas: Well, we do have a lot of areas available us.
Or did. Up to this point, you ability to explore has been intentionally quite limited because this is still effectively the tutorial (With DoomKitten acting as the final tutorial boss).
You can, I think, use the Travel map to break this sequence, but this goes against the design intent here.
Even after this though, as the game opens up, I don't think it's unreasonable to make sure that the player at least has access to the basic tools needed for a smooth experience. But at the same time, because the game is more open, there's more ways to do that comfortably.
