replace the "." after the ifs by "("
XD
and it's ==, not =
and even so I doubt it'll work. I dont know what you're trying to do with "_root.banner+random(1)". What do an instance name plus a number do?

biG frend -> RE: Flash Q&A Thread 4 (2/14/2008 22:50:30)

Erm yeah I solved that problem before you posted refresh.
It was me being stupid with if commands.

But anyway, I've said up a Variable, and made it roll for either +1 or +0.
If its 1 then one Image disappears
If its 0 The Other image disappears.

EragonZZZZ -> RE: Flash Q&A Thread 4 (2/14/2008 22:50:31)

I'm poking around with AS2 particle effects. I have a seriously awesome looking fire that is going to run beautifully when it is ported to AS3.

Will post a demo soon. :D

Taerzik -> RE: Flash Q&A Thread 4 (2/15/2008 16:23:53)

^ I wanna see it!!!

biG frend: wont work, a name plus a number gives you strange stuff
eragon: and I'm gonna copy you and make a better version

EragonZZZZ -> RE: Flash Q&A Thread 4 (2/15/2008 18:35:44)

Fire Particles v1.0

ah, flsg, you never cease to amuse me.

I'd say this slightly tops your fire effect though :P
Have fun beating it.

Awsome Teh Cake -> RE: Flash Q&A Thread 4 (2/16/2008 11:53:27)

I have a question, how do u retrieve the serial # for flash 8? i mean in the program

biG frend -> RE: Flash Q&A Thread 4 (2/16/2008 15:32:47)

If your asking how to get one you have to buy one.
Either in store or on the Interweb.

Awsome Teh Cake -> RE: Flash Q&A Thread 4 (2/16/2008 17:53:14)

I alredyhave a serialcode,but i wana putflash on another comp. so i wanna kno where to find the serial# inflash 8

biG frend -> RE: Flash Q&A Thread 4 (2/16/2008 18:05:26)

You'll have to find the piece of paper it came on, Or directly transfer the flash .exe and all the files that came with it, that could work.

Awsome Teh Cake -> RE: Flash Q&A Thread 4 (2/16/2008 18:43:43)

XD i sorta lost the papers.... Is there any other way 2 click a button or something and see it?

biG frend -> RE: Flash Q&A Thread 4 (2/16/2008 18:44:55)

As I said, Go to wherever you installed flash, Copy all the Files onto a memory stick or something, stick it into your new computer and drag it across. If that doesn't work, you'll need a new seriel.

Awsome Teh Cake -> RE: Flash Q&A Thread 4 (2/16/2008 18:45:46)

kk ty

shnaru1 -> RE: Flash Q&A Thread 4 (2/16/2008 23:33:13)

@BeefStew
You know you have to deactivate first right? Or if you have more than one liscens that shouldn't be a problem.

Awsome Teh Cake -> RE: Flash Q&A Thread 4 (2/17/2008 11:30:05)

@shnaru
I have no idea what ur talking about

The Illusive Man -> RE: Flash Q&A Thread 4 (2/17/2008 13:41:54)

There is a way I think. In the help menu, one of the buttons there will print your serial number. Just click all of them until you find it :) - That's how i moved my old version of MX04 to another computer.

And what he means is that you're only allowed to have flash 8 installed one 1 computer at a time. I think the licence is er... 1 computer and one copy for backups. You need 2 serials to have 2 working copies

flsg -> RE: Flash Q&A Thread 4 (2/17/2008 13:49:29)

lol eragon, you just copied my version, change the color and the angles and re-uploaded it XD
AS3
here:
http://img341.imageshack.us/my.php?image=fire3sg6.swf
fps: 35, no lag after 5 mins
lol

and here's what you get from changing the values a little bit:

edit: put them in my gallery

You're 100% wrong, and I'm incredibly certain about that. I didn't use anything like your version (fine, both our particles are circles). Mine wouldn't lag after 100 years, btw.
But feel free to think what you'd like :]

shnaru1 -> RE: Flash Q&A Thread 4 (2/18/2008 23:25:03)

Can someone tell me whats the shortcut to turn text into a pictrue.

Taerzik -> RE: Flash Q&A Thread 4 (2/19/2008 3:43:13)

You 'break' it. Select the text and use the 'break' menu item (there's a key command for it too). It'll leave behind a graphic. If it's a word you'll need to break it twice to get individual letters and then the graphic.

then did you just reuse the circles?

EragonZZZZ -> RE: Flash Q&A Thread 4 (2/19/2008 23:33:00)

True that. Sorry that I snapped at ye, it just took me awhile for that effect and so I was vaguely annoyed at the thought that I had just changed color and angles :P

Circle re-use is one of my optimizations to keep fps down (which is sorta hard xD)

flsg -> RE: Flash Q&A Thread 4 (2/20/2008 18:28:29)

lol, do you see how easy it is in AS3? I dont even need to recycle the circles. When they get delete after a while they erase themselves lol
also the depths get down :)

EragonZZZZ -> RE: Flash Q&A Thread 4 (2/20/2008 19:21:52)

Ah, yes, but I'd probably code some sort of garbage collector in AS3 as well.

Thats because the more circles you create...the more variable declarations have to be made (bit small of a performance hit, really, but optimization is always good). Re-using the circles mean that there's a fixed number created and as such, no issue there. :D
