OK well we are almost positive that it is a bacon cipher.
If someone has a transcript of Fal's clues could they post it please?
Clues from Fal:
bacon x2
caesar
base64

Aaronrules380 -> RE: =WF= A Mystery Continues (6/17/2009 18:38:55)

He never said caesar, he just said shifted bacon

LimeLemon -> RE: =WF= A Mystery Continues (6/17/2009 18:48:54)

I used this baconian cipher tool and got

Q L O G I/J T U/V T H S I/J T Z H K X Z H Z G K L M Z P H H K W M G K Q H U/V H C T H K Z U/V F I/J Q I/J Z C Z D W C D H O C L A U/V D F Z F Q H G P L P K X F N F N Q N W M F Q W N L M P N P Q N M M D G N P U/V O T T W Y O U/V W O N Q F B S E

in version 1 and

P K N G I S T S H R I S X H J V X Z Y Y H X G J K L X Y O H H J U L G J P Z H T H C S H J X T F I P I Z X Y Z C Y X D U C D H N C K A T D F X F P H G O K O J V F M F M P M U L Y F P U M K L O M O Z P M L L D G M O T N S Y S U W N T U N M P F B R E

in version 2.

Did I do something wrong, or do we have to decipher it even more?

Oh, and this was what I decoded (without new lines and spaces):

Lkeas -> RE: =WF= A Mystery Continues (6/17/2009 19:56:28)

Here's the logs of what clues were said (thanks Aaron):

<BaconLord> Ahaha I heap upon you a double helping of bacon to decode!
<BaconLord> And half of it is shifted bacon too!
<@Damsel> Pork Futures
<BaconLord> All 64 of your base belong to us!

If we reverse the A's and B's... well, first of all, the Baconian cipher doesn't work very well as there are a lot of unaccounted for patterns. Normal bacon looks like this:

Q VSZXN CMENCYBODXNIYW KIGHHCYBIZWVUIHRYYWLUZWQGB GDGHLIGFSDGVYBMF ZSB ZXJYYSBHCYBHIHBOEXNPY LHBI GSGUGD LSBCBLDMVUDHVHBGX IGPVAW GDGHLIFDHCNBGB JJZSBHCYBECI GTWVUZGFZJYBBC NPC RHBNQU

"Shifted" aka reversed bacon (with dots where unaccounted patterns go):

P KNGIS .T.S.H.R.ISXHJ VXZYY.H.XGJKLXYOHHJULGJPZ. Z.ZYUXZ.N.ZKH.T. GN. GIWHHN.Y.H.YXY.R.ISQH UY.X ZNZLZ. UN...U.TKL.YKY.ZI XZQK.J Z.ZYUX..Y.S.Z. WWGN.Y.H...X ZMJKLGZ.GWH... SQ. OY.SPL

The other possibility is that the shift occurs after the baconian cipher is run. In this case it would be a Caesar cipher, also known as the Caesar shift as it shifts the entire alphabet evenly. The problem now is in the second clue, which states that only half of the bacon is shifted. Which half? The first? The second? Every other letter? By how much?

Then we've got the base64 clue which I assume is the last step to decoding. But unless we get all the other steps completely correct, base64 decoders will not be able to decrypt the message. [:@]

Falerin -> RE: =WF= A Mystery Continues (6/18/2009 8:03:14)

The problem with your sixty four bases is likely that the numbers of bacon do not taste good. The bacon lord is very literal and does not like symbolism. Worse yet he talks like the dragon form of Drakath. Sheesh! Hence you could be here till 3099 trying that venue.

Here is the same message but retrieved from a different source. My messenger sent the following.

Lord Falerin,

As requested I returned to each of the previously mentioned bases. Unfortunately the network had them under heavy guard so once there I had sixteen curses cast upon me! I fled with the message but the curses took effect and I tripped totally knocking over the silverware drawer. Then some guy in a toga came and charged me a cleanup bill to fix but all the while was drooling over my food. He said "mmm" so many times I finally gave him a bite. He said he was not used to forks and spoons of this magnitude so he would symbolize it with something less common he tried hitting me with bars but there were still to many of them so I refused. Finally he settled on everytime he wanted to say mmmmmmm he would instead say n. this worked but it sounded weird. he still was saying a lot of nnn all the time. So he invented two other symbols for that. He showed me how to do it but I quickly noticed the number of things I got down did not match. When I called him on it he said that he totally deleted any forks that came before the spoons. He said that leading forks have no meaning. I think I have been duped!

V.

now onto the puzzle itself at the bottom. The two letter words have got to be one of the following. "Be, is, or, he, it, on, of, in, as, to."

The single letter spaces are either an A or an I. and the 3 letter words are either one of these. "are, her, she, his, its, for, and, the, let, got." Those are the most likely, words that would be in the 3 space.

And as for the letter with all the S's in it. You may want to consider the "S" by itself, as a possible space.

I have an idea
replace all the letters with the roman numeral form of it and since they are mostly all based on 10
you might get something if converted to binary
i tried my way and got

For a moment I thought Falerin's latest post to G was a clue about what to do next. But apparently I was mistaken, I tried a search on both cherry and thumbprint ciphers and came up with zilch. Apparently, it really "is" just a cookie-topic.

I haven't been able to really think through on the latest puzzle all that much myself(collage has been keeping me busy this week and so has the ged test coming today!) I won't be back till late, so I probably won't make it online till around eleven pm gmt.

I think however that G might have something there with that idea of his. Whoops, out of time. Gotta run. bye!

LimeLemon -> RE: =WF= A Mystery Continues (6/19/2009 13:28:13)

Delete any forks that comes before a spoon? Leading forks are unnecessary?
Ok, so it TOTALLY has to be binary. Forks are 0s and spoons are 1s.

DragonSlayerNinja -> RE: =WF= A Mystery Continues (6/19/2009 13:35:29)

wait forks come before knifes when you set the table... and spoons go, uhhh idk, but maby that would help in some way... idk what im talking about

I think you have mixed up your order of operations.

goron link8 -> RE: =WF= A Mystery Continues (6/19/2009 14:48:58)

i think we are supposed to replace some of the m' with n's s's or z's because the messenger said the guy started saying n instead of m
and that he chose two new letters for it also and s and z are there and s n and z are not MODERN Roman numerals but they appear in the message

S N and Z are Medieval Roman numerals though

Aaronrules380 -> RE: =WF= A Mystery Continues (6/19/2009 14:58:34)

I'm fairly certain we need to do a caesar shift using the letter n at some point, not sure when though

Lkeas -> RE: =WF= A Mystery Continues (6/19/2009 15:30:52)

Ok, well... if the toga guy replaced all his M's with N's, and invented two more symbols for that as well... perhaps the S and Z are also supposed to be M's since S and Z are not traditional Roman numerals. That gives us this:

MMCI MMI M MMXI MMX M MMCI MMCX M MMCXI MMXI M MMCI MMI M MMCI MMM M MMC MMCI M MMXI MM M MMCX MMXI M MMCX MMC M MMC MMCI M MMCX MMCI M MMCX MMXI M MMCXI MMMI M MMC MMX M MMCX MMCX M MMCX MMC M MMCI MMM M MMC MMCI M MMCX MMMI M MMCI MMMI M MMCI MMCXI M MMXI MMCI M MMCX MMX M MMC MMMI M MMC MMM M MMCI MMX M MMCXI MMMI M MMCI MMMI M MMCI MMCXI M MMCX MMXI M MMCXI MMCI M MMCI MMI M MMCI MMCXI M MMCI MMI M MMCX MMCXI M MMCX MMX M MMXI MMX M MMXI MMC M MMCX MMCXI M MMCX MMC M MMC MMCXI M MMCI MMCX M MMCXI MMMI M MMCX MMXI M MMCX MMC M MMC MMCI M MMCX MMCXI M MMCI MMMI M MMCI MMM M MMC MMC M MMCX MMCXI M MMCI MMMI M MMCI MMXI M MMC MMX M MMCXI MMCXI M MMCX MMI M MMC MMM M MMCX MMXI M MMCXI MM M MMCX MMXI M MMXI MMX M MMCX MMXI M MMCX MMI M MMCI MMMI M MMCI MMCXI M MMXI MMC M MMCXI MMCI M MMC MMMI M MMC MMCI M MMCX MMM M MMCX MMXI M MMC MMMI M MMC MMM M MMCX MMC M MMCXI MM M MMCX MMX M MMC MMCXI M MMCXI MMCXI M MMCX MMCXI M MMCI MMI M MMCI MMM M MMCI MMI M MMCX MMXI M MMCX MMX M MMCX MMCI M MMCI MMX M MMXI MMI M MMCI MMMI M MMCI MMCXI M MMCXI MMM M MMCXI MMXI M MMCX MMCI M MMCI MMXI M MMC MMX M MMCXI MMI M MMCX MMX M MMXI MMX M MMCX MMXI M MMCXI MMCI M MMC MMMI M MMC MMM M MMCI MMX M MMCX MMCX M MMCI MMI M MMCI MMXI M MMC MMX M MMXI MMXI M MMCI MMMI M MMCI MMM M MMC MMI M MMCXI MMCXI M MMCI MMI M MMCX MMC M MMXI MMMI M MMCXI MMMI M MMCI MMMI M MMXI MMX M MMCI MMCI M MMCX MMCXI M MMCI MMMI M MMCI MMM M MMC MMC M MMCX MMCXI M MMCI MMX M MMC MMCXI M MMXI MMMI M MMCX MMI M MMCX MMC M MMC MMCXI M MMXI MMMI M MMCXI MMMI M MMC MMMI M MMC MMCI M MMXI MMI M MMCX MMXI M MMCX MMX M MMCX MMC M MMCI MMX M MMCX MMM M MMCX MMXI M MMCXI MMMI M MMCX MMXI M MMCX MMCXI M MMCI MMMI M MMCI MMM M MMC MMCI M MMCXI MMI M MMCX MMI M MMCI MMM M MMC MMCI M MMXI MM M MMCI MMMI M MMCI MMCXI M MMXI MMCI M MMXI MM M MMC MMXI M MMCX MMCXI M MMXI MMC M MMXI MMC

Notice there are no V's in the code, which leaves us with just 1's and 0's when we convert. Looks like we're back to binary, but it does not translate quite right just yet. This is where the mysterious "deleted forks" clue comes in. But I can't figure out what that means! Is the fork supposed to represent 0 like it did before? In the previous unsolved code there were no spoons, just forks and sporks. Or perhaps the fork represents an entire M? But then what would the C, X and I represent?

Something else I noticed... the spacing of the decrypted message that Fal posted has 97 letters, which is far fewer than the code we've been given. There are 1375 roman numerals, which would translate into 4442 characters in binary. It must mean there's still multiple steps to the code because we somehow have to trim down those thousands of characters into 97. Or else we're tackling this the wrong way...

I had thought there were spoons, there just weren't very many of them. Or am I behind in watching two puzzles rather than just one?
