New art for Cyclops is great! I think most of the low-level equipment and faces need updating.

DarkLore -> RE: =AK= The Ultimate New Art for AQ Discussion Thread (7/24/2011 16:00:22)

I think Tharg Hide's head looks great! But the armor could use a more polished and detailed look.
Explorer's Outfit is good, but if our skin color isn't the default, the hands will always look the default color. BAD! I also agree with people on the forums that Character faces need more detail.

Phrixus -> RE: =AK= The Ultimate New Art for AQ Discussion Thread (7/24/2011 16:31:33)

Cyclops has new art?

Hwat? Can someone back this guy up? :P

Edit: Oohh there's only a whole thread about it. Nevermind then. [sm=frogzard.gif]

Duskstar -> RE: =AK= The Ultimate New Art for AQ Discussion Thread (10/23/2011 16:39:11)

It's pretty fun.y reading this thread from the beginning - everyone complaining about nemesis and guardian armour art, and look where we are at now :D there are an awful lot of age-old monsters that need serious art updates anyway

Guardian Patrick -> RE: =AK= The Ultimate New Art for AQ Discussion Thread (10/23/2011 16:52:47)

Long Sword
Nova Knight armors
ALL starter/low level armors/weapons/shield

lemoolscript -> RE: =AK= The Ultimate New Art for AQ Discussion Thread (10/23/2011 23:21:36)

Has anyone mentioned PWD's art? :D

PWD for the WIN!

^so thats what propaans picture resembles lol

Master Merlin -> RE: =AK= The Ultimate New Art for AQ Discussion Thread (12/4/2011 15:58:53)

I'm going to go ahead and search through the RA list for monsters that could use updates, because I'm bored. To start off with, two common archetypes, Undead and Worms, should get the most attention since they are the first monsters players come into contact with, and then move on to smaller groups of monsters such as Mermazons, Umazens, Trolls, etc. Several second generation zards (Nightzard, Cloudzard) could also use some love. So without further adieu:

Zzott: No comment.
Sunrays and Moonrays: So much potential with these critters... they would actually look somewhat good if it wasn't for the poor light beam imitation.
Seed Spitters: Just use Dragonfable's art, or a variation of it. It is pretty much the established art for Seedspitters in all AE games now.
Wasp Swarm: Could be styled similar to the Waspzards. That would be amazing.
Mermazon: This has so much potential for a Mermaid/Undine elemental, and if it is given the same treatment as the Vagarans it will look amazing. The same applies for the Sarkanians and related folk, such as the Battle Whale, Sea Dog, Giant Nautoid, Gargel and Hydrak.
Umazen: Again, so much potential for an amazoness archetype. Definitely can't wait to see what happens.
Lesser Djinn: Two routes to go here: either copy the DF artwork or do something similar to Pirakkas. I'm leaning towards the second one, but with smoke effects for the lower body instead of demon feet...
Magman: The poor shading effects are really noticable, and I would think the highest level RA monster in the game could get some awesome lava graphics added to it... maybe not the level of Obverse Beast, but still something.
Vampire Bat: This was overlooked when updating the Werebat.
Gnarl/Whomp/Grunt/Creech: KILL IT WITH FIRE... no, really. Worst animated monsters in the game in my opinion, if only because they are so large and in your face constantly (as opposed to say, Fire Ants, who really aren't that well animated but have the decency to be small about it). The brown dirt visual is really unappealing, for obvious reasons. Supposedly "Plant" monsters.
Prismix: And resulting Sine Qua Non. Could simply be shaded/textured further, along with updated light-based attacks added (Illuminate ultra). Also related to the Light Sentinel and Glow Worm, who feature in the same quest.
Quizzat/Lectro/Grizzle: See Zzott. Energy monsters are notorious for having bad animations at low levels.
Velociraider: So much awesomeness waiting to happen! I really want this one updated. Death from above indeed...
The Bloat: And Tropopause Tyrant at higher levels. It actually is quite a good idea for a monster, and I really love the description of these things drifting high above the cloud cover, but in practice....
Chrask: Kind of important since he is the first monster to drop a default weapon. I like what they did with Garganth, keeping the same skeleton but with more details. That could definitely be done here.
Fire Ants: Scale these tiny creatures larger and give them some fiery plated scaled armor and they could be amazing.
Weather Witch: How about, since this is the mage quest, we give her a set of mage robes and access to some weather related spells, such as Ice Nine, Vortex, and Riptide? Also applies to Death Witch and Sorceress, who could definitely be updated along the same theme.
Four Eyed Freak: Now this one is interesting. If I'm not wrong, either DF or AQW did a quest with this monster in it too. Either way, it shouldn't be too hard to make it more threatening.
Mjolnid: They could simply be warriors armed with Asgardian Equipment, with unique facial features to differentiate them from normal humans.
Draegan Avenger: Give it a similar model as the Angry Protester, but with a unique weapon? Ryussei's salvation blade looks like it would fit quite well...
Terropain: It seems as this one was overlooked when its larger cousin was featured in Paxia. Or should it be removed entirely, since it is kind of inconsistent with the storyline?
Night Horror: Kind of falls under the undead category, but relevant since it is one of the more prominent high level darkness bosses. Honestly if it were just the shadow "essence" it wouldn't be that bad, but the horribly textured "spheres" really ruin it, especially when frozen...
Kitten of Doom: Just needs some higher texture.
Super Mega Ultra Giga Worm: I've hated this one for awhile now. Especially when the solution is in plain sight: in the Wind Orb quest where you go into the underground tunnel minigame, there are several epic worm models, including a titan sized verson of this. It seems a shame to waste that nice art... Mr. Worm also applies here.
Thunder Bird: As other forumites have said, the so called "Embodiment of the Energy Lord" could do so much better than this. The same applies to Aquus.
Briglings: It's the light effects that annoy me... but the spikes and tentacles could have a lot of work done with them.
Shadowfire Knight: Use the DF art! Or remove it from RA and keep it in a Great Fire War "Time Scroll" kind of quest...
Centocors: Once again... DF art, or something similar to it. Alternatively they could use the same style of the Centurions, I was really disappointed to learn that they weren't art updates for these guys.
Cthulion: Could do something like the Chimera... only a cross between lions and braken of some sort.
Frazzlhutch/Dastardly Gloop: These monsters should just be removed from the game entirely, I honestly don't think anything can be done to salvage them.
Razorwind/Skyhunter: These are kind of related. Are they in the same questline? Either way need updates badly.
Skeeter/Snzflip: Some of the old monsters in the Zardhunter quests. Could be removed from RA and restricted to that quest alone.
Dwarves/Drakels: Several subraces in general actually. Elves have that one random quest, Orcs are okay...
Ice Burrower: This was featured in the Nemesis quest, much to my dismay. Is it suppose to be... a mutated demon snow rabbit of sorts?
Demon Steed/Gorarog/Fire Golem/Fire Fiend: Some low level fire monsters that should get the same treatment as Hellhound.
Ruby/Emerald Golems: Should be given the same treatment as Adalon.
Thrachee: Restrict it to the Bludrut Keep quest until updates can be made.
Berserker: As its name suggests, it should have the Berserker class equipment and attacks.
Fire Demon/Light Demon/Frost Demon: All related, all need an update.
Kelp Ball: Seen at high levels since it was updated. Not too bad, just should be more realistic.
Iceshifters: Obviously should go the same way as darkshifters, or be removed if they don't fit with the storyline.

A work in progress. Finished, I think. Ultimately I think what would be the easiest route would be to divide certain monsters into categories and work from there. The archetypes (Undead, Worms, Trolls) are obvious, but you could also make a "Plant" group consisting of Whomp, Grunt, and so on, an "Electric" group of Zzotts and Thunderbirds, a "Ocean" group of Mermazons and their kin, etc. and update them in stages. Also, while going through the list, it seems that Gargoyle and Garganth recieved graphical improvements. Interesting...

Note: Also, on the "Great Dragons" i.e. Akriloth, Great Frost Worm, Dire Shade, the models themselves aren't too bad, but some are obviously better than others. Akriloth and DS should remain as they are, but Trigoras (and his lopsided mouth) need a huge update...

In my opinion, I think PWD should be left untouched
It's just so classic

carabuno -> RE: =AK= The Ultimate New Art for AQ Discussion Thread (12/4/2011 22:03:08)

^ i second that its one of the old things that should stay for nostalgic value

Mordred -> RE: =AK= The Ultimate New Art for AQ Discussion Thread (12/4/2011 22:26:28)

Nostalgia's all good and well, except when it gets in the way of progress. That nostalgic value is in practice worth very little in the face of new, better art. I for one groan each time I see PWD because its art's so bad. Imagine a new player who sees the beautiful weapon of Awe's art, then sees the very outdated PWD. They'd immediately be turned off by the attack. We NEED to make EVERYTHING look nice(except time travel quests) for the sake of attracting new players and keeping them. It's very detracting to have to face the ugly art of the first 50 or so lvls. These drastically need much better art. PWD should inspire me with a sense of awe; like it did the first time I saw it and wondered what was going on. Now, I'm positively sick of the art. PWD, and Death himself, need to look more frightening.

Master Merlin -> RE: =AK= The Ultimate New Art for AQ Discussion Thread (12/5/2011 13:46:35)

I agree with Mordred. What I felt nostalgic about early AQ was not the art (except in a few rare places) but the creativity of the class quests, the engagement of the wars and storyline events, and the pure joy that could be had in the holiday events and humerous sidequests. In short, everything that makes the game what it is today. Mind you, I see nothing wrong with enjoying the spirit of the old art, and I too would be annoyed if it was changed beyond all recognition. But that is not what is being done. Just look at the new Dragonblades. They keep the sleek, streamlined design of a dragon killing machine while adding a few minor details such as a blue gem on the pommel or a diamond pattern on the hilt. And if you like the old art, Zardwars is always available to you. It's what the game was made for.

Anyway, I'm done with my list. To simplify it a bit I'm going to go ahead and make some groupings of monsters that all share the same characteristics:
Archetypes: Undead, Worms
Groups: Pyro (Fire Fiend, Fire Golem, Fire Demon, Demon Steed, Gorarog, Magman) Aqua (Mermazons, Sarkanians, Hydrak, Sea Dog, Battle Whale, Giant Nautoid, Aquus, Kelp Ball, Brigling) Electric (Thunder Bird, Zzott, Quizzat, Lectro, Grizzle, Mjolnid) and Plants (Whomp, Grunt, Creech, Gnarl, Seedspitter, Frazzlhutch, Snzflip)

If we can get these orders taken care of, then atleast 75% of the game will be high quality, visually appealing artwork. Mind you, it is a tremendous undertaking, and I don't expect it to be done even in the next five years. It's just an idea, and perhaps makes things easier for those trying to pinpoint exactly which groups of monsters needing updates are the most numerous in game.

Ty Lee -> RE: =AK= The Ultimate New Art for AQ Discussion Thread (12/5/2011 15:28:11)

The items in the shops of battleon.
Theyre the first items player see.
And they should have more appeal then how they look now.

shintilaberis -> RE: =AK= The Ultimate New Art for AQ Discussion Thread (12/6/2011 18:30:44)

I think DemonSpectre could do with a graphical update, as well as higher levels.
Oh and potion treasure chest could do with one.
I do like the old art though, maybe we could have a "nostalgia quest" where you can see it all.
Another nice thing to do would be something like iron golem where the old art gets killed by the new art at the beginning of the battle. That intro animation never fails to make me laugh, it fools me every time.

Master Merlin -> RE: =AK= The Ultimate New Art for AQ Discussion Thread (12/6/2011 19:09:35)

We have plenty of quests like that. Including but not limited to Fading Warlic and the Time Scrolls in general.

I too loved the intro animation on Iron Golem. It is one of the best examples of lampshading in the game to date and a great inside reference to those who have been a part of the art updating process. Plus its downright scary the first time you see it. Poor outdated battle suit...

Hello011010 -> RE: =AK= The Ultimate New Art for AQ Discussion Thread (1/1/2012 22:21:46)

Abomination
Yeah... Definitely needs an update

Phrixus -> RE: =AK= The Ultimate New Art for AQ Discussion Thread (1/2/2012 2:50:31)

Yes it does, it needs it bad. But the Night Horror series needs it worse seeing as its been given new stats.

For all that health and the punch it now packs it sure doesn't quite fit the bill. It could be made terrifying.

Skull Kid -> RE: =AK= The Ultimate New Art for AQ Discussion Thread (1/2/2012 3:29:50)

Many things need Art Updates but Vagaran are the most Horrible looking creatures on Lore, I dont understand why is their art so bad..

Phrixus -> RE: =AK= The Ultimate New Art for AQ Discussion Thread (1/2/2012 13:45:21)

What are you talking about Suraj? The Vagaran have been updated. Are you talking about this? I personally think it looks great and is a huge improvement from it's former art.

I also think Siren Spear needs an update badly when at all possible. My girlfriend's lvl 45 mage has used it and the special looks pretty bad.

Here's a picture of the weapon itself since the 'Pedia doesn't seem to have it right now.

0Neo -> RE: =AK= The Ultimate New Art for AQ Discussion Thread (1/2/2012 15:40:36)

the pets of the reign and shadow sets NEED art update, since this 2 sets are getting sweep soon, the pets should get a whole upgrade

there are beastwarriors/mages you know[&:]

those "birds" are awfull, the staff could create a goth-like crow with shadow powers and an awe phoenix that incinerates our enemys with divine flames!!

that would be awesome and could encourage more players to buy them

Karmakas -> RE: =AK= The Ultimate New Art for AQ Discussion Thread (1/2/2012 15:51:42)

I agree with you 0Neo, they look like symbols that could be on a banner or crest.

Edit: Awesome xD

The Hollow -> RE: =AK= The Ultimate New Art for AQ Discussion Thread (1/2/2012 16:16:42)

Hah that's actually at least where the phoenix came from, the emblem on the floor. Should be able to give them some attention when the sets are being updated.

No Refills -> RE: =AK= The Ultimate New Art for AQ Discussion Thread (1/2/2012 19:14:32)

Mjolnid: http://forums2.battleon.com/f/tm.asp?m=111274

dethhollow -> RE: =AK= The Ultimate New Art for AQ Discussion Thread (1/2/2012 19:38:44)

if I recall correctly, somehow WF faces got into AQ or something, and the staff fixed it.

maybe we could use the WF faces? After all, WF and AQ do take place at the same time!!!

Ranloth -> RE: =AK= The Ultimate New Art for AQ Discussion Thread (1/2/2012 19:56:09)

Holiday Colossus' could use update on special's art.. Such a great looking weapon, yet apporling art of the special.. :|
