Can we say MQ is still young? nope,not really. Not want to bring this up but really, where are the DF and AQ mech chassis that we were promised YEARS ago? Instead of taking time making carbon copies of SCMMs, do take the time to design and make the mech chassis that we were supposed to get. I am pretty sure nearly everyone forgot about about them,right? I am sorry if my post sounds abit blunt but I really should think I should get this out of my chest since I paid for SC membership.

A bit late on the uptake. Please see Korin's post somewhere on page 10 of the Coming SOON thread.

DAH/Guardian mechs are planned to appear before next year; if everything goes according to plan; which, by the sound of things, seems to look good thus far.

forumlogin -> RE: Is mechquest dying? (9/15/2010 23:07:37)

@Hellsoarer
I think those kinds of posts are the reasons Ein's threatening to lock the thread. :P
How 'bout you actually pay attention?

@Ein
Whenever I hear "planned to", "if everything goes according to plan", or "seems to look good", I instantly think that it'll find itself on the S.O.O.N. list sooner or later, or again on the S.O.O.N. for this sort of thing. ;)

LordEdwin -> RE: Is mechquest dying? (9/16/2010 0:49:23)

People seem annoyed that the staff are working on AQW rather than MQ, but if you look at the number of people who play AQW, it seems fair enough to concentrate work on AQW. Anyway, AQW is more fun (sorry to MQ fans here). Nevertheless, I am annoyed at the releases over the last few weeks.

If you look at the last few releases, the only releases have been Yokai and that salesmans items and the Monthly Mech. No missions. Missions and plot are the sole point of MQ for me and I want to see weekly release meaning weekly mission or two.

This is purely opinion though.
I happen to find AQW the most dull of their games, whenever I log on, I realize I have nothing to do...

@astro999 There are at least seven Clyde's input makes eleven... people who do MQ stuff "full-time" and don't do any other AE games.

I know of Korin, Maegwyn, Vivi, Azami, blues, Lyris, Jemini, Vergen Von...Something, Minar, sometimes Arklen, and Charfade, and there are probably others that I missed to.

Oh, you said "full-time" Haha my bad. :P ~Clyde

I don't mean fulltime as in 'are dedicated only to MQ' I meant it in the way of 'Are full time eployees of AE who work for the most part on MQ'.
I know blues only works part time, isn't he a cardiologist or something?

Vampire Fexy -> RE: Is mechquest dying? (9/16/2010 1:12:29)

@LordEdwin : Dont see how AQW is better, tbh i would call it fashion game (even just a chat) instead of a fighting game, the story fails, gameplay fails, most things about the game fails and the only reason i play it is to chat and im mostly AFK, there is nothing fun about that game other than milt missions and when they made them a piece of cake the game went boring for me, buying membership only give you more equipments, clearly worthless and i wouldnt buy it if all my friends werent in Sir Vir.

Anyway looking the numbers should make them hire more staff instead of taking them from another game, seriously how much staff did AQW take ? Artix (AQ Head mod?),Cysero (DF Head mod) and Warlic (MQ Head mod), not sure about the other staffs but they did take some more, it seems like after they saw how much people spent of AQW they wanted to get more money and thats why they took the best staffs from the other games and didnt even replace them, but MQ suffered the most since the team was already small and they are making a new MMO which is clearly stupid looking at how bad they are at the number of staffs right now, and how they are gonna take more staffs for the new MMO game, looks like AE only cares about money now....

Hellsoarer -> RE: Is mechquest dying? (9/16/2010 2:03:46)

AQW should be a chat game, not fighting.
I login to it, get rares if available, chat with somebody, and log out because for all the quests you just kill a certain monster a certain amount of times and you get a reward and none of the weapons deal more damage than others and there are only two attacks which are slash and stab.

MQ has machine guns, flamethrowers, explosions, lazars, more explosions, grabs, punches, stabs etc. and with weapons you can increase your stats. And it has monthly mechs. [;)]

If the MQ staff had more ' staff ' and thereby increasing their release capacity then MQ Playerbase would rise aswell...
If I was a old player returning when lvl 15-18 for example, and I'd ask the ' best mech ' and/or equipment of lvl 15/18, what is it?
Most people here wouldn't even know good mechs/equipment... They'd say... get that one before it's rare and/or Do jobs and buy that one.

Hellsoarer
I know it isn't allowed on the forums, but I'm thinking to make a Petition on Twitter to make the SC Monthly Mechs into Sc 3 monthly mechs.
Allready posted the Reasons Why so I don't feel the need to repeat myself

~Chaos~ -> RE: Is mechquest dying? (9/16/2010 13:54:31)

Didn't Warlic get a baby? In real life of course.

Darkling -> RE: Is mechquest dying? (9/16/2010 14:25:27)

Don't know bout you guys but I am excited for that cap increase.
More stats more play and really you guys should feel lucky a thread like this even exists.
AQ had their slow period take a look at it now ... I think something really special is being planned for MQ.
Watch the skies!

Clyde -> RE: Is mechquest dying? (9/16/2010 14:26:49)

Warlic did not leave MQ to work on AQW. I am pretty sure it has been stated that he would be working on the BladeHaven Mini-game coming out soon. From time to time he still does work for MQ I believe. Yergen is also working on BladeHaven.

Also just to reiterate what neo posted, there are 15 known* MQ staff members(yes I'm including the ones that also work on other games):

Korin
Warlic
Maegwyn
Thyton
Jemini
Charfade
Minar
Khelios
Yergen...
Rolith
Vivi
Azami
Blues
Lyris
Arklen

That in no-way is a small number. >.> I think it was Mae who said that if they ever really need help they ask for it from the other game's staff. There's nothing wrong with that at all.

*Known. Meaning there could be some staff members that aren't in the spotlight yet who work for MQ. Not to mention they do get interns now and again.

deathkiller -> RE: Is mechquest dying? (9/16/2010 14:47:05)

I didn't know if it was on but it now can be scrapped next Friday more default mech slots

Considering the time he's spent on this, it had better be the minigame to end all minigames, or else, assuming I get my way, he will be fed to a pack of very hungry, very impatient trolls, most likely in a fashion both figurative and literal.

forumlogin -> RE: Is mechquest dying? (9/16/2010 21:31:06)

@Clyde
Can I get AQW, DF, and AQ staff size comparisons with that? ;P

No, just no. If AE only cared about money, it would be something like world of warcraft.

Hellsoarer -> RE: Is mechquest dying? (9/16/2010 22:03:47)

At least MQ doesn't considering Free Players just got 10 more slots [;)]

Exactly. AQW is.

zeke50100 -> RE: Is mechquest dying? (9/17/2010 0:23:49)

Considering that MQ's popularity with NSCs went up by a huge amount not so long ago, I'd say it's not dying ;)

There was a thread some time ago with a strikingly similar title. A lot of excellent posts were made, and it would be really nice if the darned thread could be found. Unfortunately, it has probably been swept away, never to be seen again. If anybody remembers that thread, and happens to have a copy of it (unlikely as that may be), it'd be nice to see it again ^_^

Anyways, I don't believe MQ is dying. The staff may be small, but they are dedicated. Sure, they may not be pumping out major storyline advancements like they do over at DF, but there IS stuff happening. In fact, I think it's hard to say that it's dying; there are still weekly releases, and things are still enjoyable to play.

I think the main reason that MQ is not "thriving" as much as other games is because the player base, not the game, has been dying out. Traditional fantasy games are notoriously more popular than any other genre of RPG. While in the beginning a truckload of people started playing MQ because it was new, they gradually started to leave as they realized it wasn't their cup of tea. There aren't too many new people coming in because, honestly, not many people go to google and type in "sci-fi fantasy rpg" when they want something to do. It's an inherent problem with sci-fi games, not just Mechquest.

On a slightly-related tangent, I've seen some posts saying that "MQ isn't cared about," which I think is a blatant lie. Understaffing may be an issue (which many people have suggested in kinder terms), but it's not necessarily the core issue at hand (which I believe to be the player base not being very strong). And of course AE cares about MQ very much; they only spent quite a few years developing, nurturing, and continuing the game, have they not? ;)

In-game difficulties can also play a huge role in why people aren't playing the game, but I'll leave that to the Balance boards :P

Every time this question is asked, the same, defiant cry of "No" is heard. Obviously, there isn't too much to worry about. So long as people keep playing and encourage the staff (and beg for more stuff, of course), this persistent mass of code isn't going to keel over any time soon.

~Zeke~

Hellsoarer -> RE: Is mechquest dying? (9/17/2010 0:36:30)

Well said! /agrees with zeke 100%

seventy two -> RE: Is mechquest dying? (9/17/2010 0:48:01)

@ Zeke I think the name was almost exactly the same. And I more or less agree with your statements, releases have dipped a bit but not so much as to justify it as dying. Though the community definitely seems to be dying, this is basically the only thread that has gotten many replies recently, not to mention low sever count.

As I stated before I do not see MQ as dying, it may be slowing down, but nothing will kill it yet. I really do not understand why so many topics like this appear, because clearly the majority believes in MQ's ability to thrive.

emethyst -> RE: Is mechquest dying? (9/17/2010 9:47:02)

You mean this thread?

black knight 1234567 -> RE: Is mechquest dying? (9/17/2010 9:52:11)

Making SCMM 3 monthly will pretty much make SC's pay for nothing, because really, what othher big feutrues we get other than the SCMM?

Calogero -> RE: Is mechquest dying? (9/17/2010 10:05:02)

Black

They'd still get a mech every 3 months that is Unique...
Serious Why the No against it... I'm a Sc and I'd like it 3 monthly aswell

black knight 1234567 -> RE: Is mechquest dying? (9/17/2010 10:11:26)

Or because the SCMM's are pretty much the ONLY mechas I use and I dont want too wait 3 months for a new mecha :P

Calogero -> RE: Is mechquest dying? (9/17/2010 10:13:38)

They have to think what's better for the MQ section not always Player based.

Some Sacrifices have to be done to gain more

also instead of then 3 Copy mechs, we might get 1 Good looking mech
They look allready nice but imo they look practicly the same
