Dragonnightwolf -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 1:47:36)

from what I understand, the roleplay is a free for all.

and I'm rather new to it myself, just not new to roleplaying itself.

Oh that ice spell's a nice one.

I would like to ask though, wouldn't ice technically be defeated by say, claws that can pierce metal? I figure that by the time the re-bound comes to my copies and myself, I'll have smelled the ice or heard it by then.

Nightlark -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 1:54:10)

Dragon, you have a big fat PM sitting in your inbox. No hurries, though. :)

Wait, you can smell ICE? Interesting...

Oh, and Krey, about how many icicles are there? Kainrahn will be blast-happy if there are few enough for him to handle. Hmm...

TormentedDragon -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 3:00:33)

Krey's asleep right now. I'm suffering from self-inflicted insomnia. I think, however, that the answer is something along the lines of "a LOT."

Krey -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 7:28:33)

TD is right. The answer is a LOT. Enough to create an icy web of doom in which, if everyone were to stand still and do nothing, they would all get hit several times. Eventually. Even Marcos, despite the failsafe built into the spell to leave the caster out of the initial arc, thanks to the mirror walls. Numbers in the hundreds, if you're looking for a solidish number. Fired at +/- 15 degrees vertically, and +/- 140 degrees horizontally. The most deadly ones are the ones fired horizontally, for most involved, as the shards are slow to react to gravity, and so will deflect off the walls several times before even starting to fall.

Also, DNW, you'd probably hear it but there's not much to smell. They are, however, moving fast enough that trying to stop them with claws would be silly. You'd more likely get sliced through the paw. Best bet is to dodge or block with something not attached to your body and thus not risk accidentally becoming a pincushion.

Starstruck -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 9:13:03)

Lovely.

I thought of rolling behind you and letting you fall back on one or two razor blades, but that would be mean, and definitely not something Tantatto would do. This is a rather delicate situation, with something of an engineering problem hidden inside it. How to avoid a storm of ice using the spells given, in the arena given, and in character? Scintillating.

Well, I'm off to go compile a post. Expect something brilliant, I suppose, or at the very least brilliantly simple.

.Discipline -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 10:49:59)

I never really considered how hard it would be to play this character as he has no real past or emotions other than rage. So to my dismay, most of my posts are going to be short unless they require several actions on my part.

For reference, Dajaal now has several small surface wounds but they are numbed by the ice so the damage is not too bad and certainly not bad enough to penetrate his hide deeply or cause him to bleed. He is now bashing with full force on Tantatto's ice encasement as he believes he was attacked by him, however, I doubt even if you tried to reason with him he would pay your words much heed in this rage.

Starstruck -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 11:07:52)

D: Not cool. *cough*

Anyway, I suppose it is Tantatto's fate to go gamboling about the arena, cavorting out of the way of numerous attacks, but he should be safe for a round or two of posting provided nobody else wants to target him as the source of the ice storm. Nine-Foot-Demon-Guy, I have attempted to distract you towards the true caster of the painful ice spell. Do with that what you will.

superjars -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 14:04:54)

@Starstruck, two things:

quote:

More pellets came as they bounced off of the reflective pillars and made their way to Tantatto's hiding place.
The pillars are not reflective, nor do they have mirrors on them.

quote:

At the last minute, he jumped on the nearest pillar and executed a beautiful J-Chan, landing directly behind the mage with the vanished book and ice staff.
You should probably clarify what you mean by "on." From what I understand, the pillars go from the floor to the ceiling, so "on top" would be impossible unless you can break the laws of physics and "on the side" would probably be better explained by "...jumped towards the nearest pillar and as his feet/hands/head connected with it, pushed off, executing a beautiful J-Chan..."

A reminder as well: you should not edit your post without Kell approval, so this is more for future posts. If you are unsure about some part of the geography of the arena, please ask questions rather than assume what is available to you; Kell as well as several of those who've been around for a while, know these arena's pretty well and can answer most questions, which Kell can then confirm. Also, he skims through these OOC posts daily looking for colored questions for him to answer, so you should have an answer pretty quick.

Edit: By the context as I read it a third time, I understand that you mean the second version, but it took a few rereads to understand. You DO not want Kell or your fellow RPers to be guessing at what you are doing, as that makes it difficult for them to RP with you.

@Shadowlord Drakious, two things for you as well:

quote:

On top of that, he heard the growl of the wolf, and whipped around, seeing not one, but two wolves advancing towards him.
If I understand DNW's post, I believe that these wolves are coming from opposite directions, so you would not see both of them by looking in a single direction. The one that growls is trying to get your attention while the other ambushes from behind. DNW can clarify this for you further.

quote:

The "human" that he had only glanced over was approaching a new arrival, a... Giant? Ogre?
O.o! Goshen is distinctively human, albeit large and slightly heavy. And only 6'4". He's terribly offended that you have labeled him a giant or an ogre. And he wants you to know that he's met several of those and they are not very nice people (although not as bad as the Trolls).

Nightlark -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 15:00:39)

@superjars:

I'm pretty sure that once the wolves had just finished casting and are approaching Kainrahn, in which case he could turn around and see both, or, if they are not both visible even in the corner of his eyes, then he could turn his head and find both, right? And the first wolf would have to move slightly to the right and forward if he were aiming for his gut. Otherwise, his blow would've been aimed at his side, near his abdomen.

As for the second, truth be told, Kainrahn is not quite familiar with Lore's various inhabitants and... um... I guess you'd say otherworldly visitors. And giants "include monsters of human appearance but prodigious size and strength", hence why Kainrahn had labeled him as that (mistakingly, as he had only taken a quick peek before returning his attention to the wolves, and had apparently overestimated his size). And Goshen, I'm quite sorry that Kainrahn had labeled you as that. I would personally go down there and berate him, but I can't. So I'm sorry it has offended you. My deepest apologies, great... um... alternate universe human?

Geddesmck -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 15:29:27)

I recieved permission for the bunnying from Jerenda prior to posting.

I will be happy to answer any questions.

Dragonnightwolf -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 16:09:33)

Okay besides waiting on something I showed to Kell as part of my theory for being able to smell ice in an enclosed, underground, area, I can clear up a few things.

First of all, One wolf, is making noise only.

Nightfall(the original) and nightfall B(clone number 2) are being quiet.

By theory it would be difficult at best to see pitch black fur moving through the shadows unless there was a perfectly good reason to be able to see.

Basically a wolf's fur(and this applies to the real life wolves of the world) is made to blend in with a particular area, Timber wolves are brownish and blend in with forested areas. Arctic wolves are white and blend in with snowy backgrounds. Nightfall happens to have black fur, therefore, he should be relatively more difficult to spot when in movement or motionless in a darkened place. If this was sky arena, sure, I'd probably stand out like a sore thumb. But this is the cellar, and from what I understand, while it isn't completely dark, the lighting in here is much poorer, then it would be at surface level.

I'll continue the battle from this point, Kell, I still await a response from you on the theory I have offered, when you get time to read it. Thanks.

The other thing to point out here is that, You don't necessarily right away know there's 2 copies. One is being quiet so as not to be noticed on purpose.

Starstruck -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 16:30:26)

Naturally.

When I'm checking every two hours, nobody posts, but as soon as I relax, there's a flurry of activity. Marvelous.

@jars: The pillars aren't reflective? o.o Oops. My bad. I thought that the reflectivity kind of covered all surfaces, including the ceiling. Does that mean the ceiling isn't reflective, either? /question

Jars#2: J-Chan is basically a wall-jump, so I suppose that kind of explanation would be a little redundant, but I will make sure to pretend that nobody knows about any of Tantatto's techniques for future reference, just because it is much easier on the reader. Thank you for the constructive criticism.

But at least nobody attacked me :D That's a plus.

Nightlark -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 16:52:25)

@DNW: Sorry, I thought that the wolf on the right would expose itself once the first wolf had attacked. Therefore, Kainrahn would see it out of the corner of his eye.

Wait. The second wolf did the ambush? This is slightly confusing. Let me get this straight.

1) Both wolves approach, one from the right, the other from the left. Left one growls and then attacks.

2) Second wolf keeps to the right and stays in that position, ready to attack if he were to dodge to the right, in which case, he did not.

And really, Kainrahn doesn't have supernightvision, but he does have keen eyesight. He can see the rough outline of the wolf, since it's moving. If it weren't moving, that would be harder to pick out. Like how Nightfall saw him when he came, although Kainrahn's practically a rough mass of darkness in the shadows, making him blend in nearly perfectly. And I seem to have forgotten to point this out earlier: It would be impossible to see Kainrahn draw the throwing knife, if you even managed to see his outline against the shadows. The outline of the knife and his hand would be hidden in the outline of his torso.

And yes, it'd be hard to notice two copies right away if you can't hear them, but Kainrahn saw them, albeit with some difficulty, as you pointed out. I apologize for not clarifying that in the post.

jerenda -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 16:53:25)

I also received permission to make Reeve go sliding across the room with me. Krey, if you suddenly dive-roll to the side so that you're not where she's aiming, she'll probably miss you and get the wall instead. But since there has been very little indication of how exactly her powers work, I don't think noticing her looking at you would be a good enough reason to throw yourself out of the way... but, whatever. Do what you will.

I'd also like to ask where that knife Kainrahn threw ended up. Seems to me it should have reflected off the mirror behind Marcos and it's probably slid to a stop by now, maybe just beyond the set of pillars closest to the entrance? I'm mostly curious because... well, it seems like a thing to keep in mind, let's leave it at that.

Nightlark -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 16:55:51)

@jerenda:

It would have bounced off and slid to a stop somewhere next to the pillar to your left.

Also...

quote:

Nightfall hadn't been a coward as originally thought, He had planned this upon starting.

I'm wondering, how did Nightfall know what Kainrahn was thinking?

jerenda -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 17:01:09)

Cool. I'mma steal it. =D

Edit: Nightfall, are you sure there are rocks lying around? The intro does say "The floors, ceiling, and pillars had all been restored to a pristine, almost unnatural smoothness, without a chink or crack to be seen in the stone."

Dragonnightwolf -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 17:05:03)

right, Nightfall A: is the one attacking..or rather was.

While he didn't actually see the knife itself(i should have been a little more clear on my post too so I apologize in advance)

He did see something go flying, by the time it's settled, he'll have realized it was a knife.

Knives, like other objects, make a noise when they travel through the air. A swoosh, a swish, etc, Thus Nightfall's sense of smell would pick out that it was metal(since metals often hand give off at least a scent of the person throwing them along with the smell of whatever polish or what have you is used on them) and the hearing would pick out the noise of the moving weapon through air.

Oh and Krey? remind me so very much to thank you for the ice spell when this is all over.

>.> you can't imagine how much fun it is to dodge incoming flying ice things.XD

I will note here, that nightfall has taken a blow right to his stomach from the reflection of the rock that struck him. He also suffered a minor strike in his back from reflecting right off the mirror that was behind him.

And he's missing some fur from his tail. If anyone see's it, kindly return it. Thanks XD

@shadow: He doesn't. That was added in as filler to the story. He didn't really say anything except to give a look with his eyes and body posture. You can interpret the reaction as to saying anything at all.

superjars -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 17:10:28)

@ Shadowlord, he accepts your apology. You are forgiven for you ignorance of him. :P

@Starstruck, that is correct, neither the pillars nor the ceiling (or the floor for that matter) have any mirrors on them, only the walls.

For number 2, not everyone is going to read your bio every time you write a post to make sure they know what you are doing, so being clear is much better.

Also, nobody has attacked you...yet...

Dragonnightwolf -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 17:42:48)

and also, Dragonnightwolf won't be near a computer again until this evening, so probably six, maybe seven pm gmt time.

Oh and superjars, Mr.Boulder needs to posty :)

Postmaster General -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 18:41:12)

Have to hand it to you, Krey. Using a spell like that as an opener in this arena, nice way to bring the excitement and intensity right from the word "Go".

Took a bit longer to post than I'd hoped. Just when I'd gotten caught up on everyone else's posts, another batch seemed to appear in its place! :P You rapid writers, you!

Kellehendros -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 19:11:27)

I am currently reading the Cellar IC thread, I ask that all entrants refrain from posting for the moment, as I have several things to review at the request of several entrants.

Starstruck: The ceiling and pillars are not mirrored, thus, they do not reflect. Additionally, be aware that the entirety of the walls of the Arena are not mirrored. The mirrors are 8 feet by 4 feet, hung at the middle of the walls, ten to a wall. There is space between the mirrors, as well as between the mirrors and the ceiling and floor. The moss grows there, amongst other places.

All entrants: If you have a question for me, bold it in your post, or use a different color that immediately catches my eye. If you prefer to voice questions or concerns in private, PM me, or find me on IRC if available.

.Discipline -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 19:29:57)

@Duncan: Are you targeting Dajaal or Tantatto in that last post, it was ambiguously worded.

Just a note, the darkness aura around Dajaal obscures him so that a direct attack on a specific body part would be quite difficult to pull off unless a character has a method of blind targeting. I'll let the damage to my eyes slide because I hadn't mentioned the aura in detail before that defensive maneuver, plus that much ice being dispersed would likely go in his eyes anyway.

Postmaster General -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 19:41:09)

@.Discipline: It was directed at Dajaal. My mistake for the confusion. And Fenrys isn't the type to think first necessarily, she often learns from experience.

Eltaka -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 19:53:14)

I have entered the arena. I'll be editing my bio with the link to my post soon.

Sorry I'm a bit late with my first post, I'll be able to post faster in the future. This EC is moving way faster than last year's I think.

I plan to attack Krey if no one decides to attack me while I'm running to the pillar. I'll try to be on IRC as much as possible, but PMing me is still the best way to contact me.

.Discipline -> RE: =EC 2011= Cellar Arena OOC (6/27/2011 20:27:48)

Darn the no edit rule, I've noticed two typos in my post and my spelling perfectionism is making me uneasy. xD

Anyway, Dajaal is currently pushing back against you, Duncan, it's up to your reactions on whether he manages to grab you, claw you and pierce you with his tail. Of course, one could easily happen without the other so don't take them all exclusively, either way you're inside the darkness aura and therefore it is likely you are unable to see, keep that in mind.
