Its all about profit. Now there is virtually nothing good to spend with varium, so they just let you buy stat points that gives you an instant edge over your opponents instead of skill and experience.
Enhancements have caused restrictions such as: Agility, stat diminishment, and skill requirements. I'm not saying those are all bad things, but the part is that they FAILED.
Did stat diminishment stop the spread of the strength merc or bh? NO
Did Agility stop HP spamming? Yes, but at what cost? There is no variety anymore. All you see walking around are 95 HP, 110 HP, or 125 or somewhere incredibly close to it.
Did Skill Requirements stop stat spamming? NO, due to enhancements, people can walk around with +50 on something they want to spam.
Now you got 2 kind of builds that work best. 5 bonus or spam. Anything els in between just won't work very well.
Enhancements killed the creativity. Its still fun for some very wierd people that enjoys winning without thinking, but it killed the fun for most of us.

LatinLover/Martini -> RE: The dev's refusal to press the "undo" button for enhancements (7/13/2011 19:34:53)

Epicduel is very smart for making enhancements cause picture how much money they have made? We are theyre puppets.

PivotalDisorder -> RE: The dev's refusal to press the "undo" button for enhancements (7/13/2011 19:48:13)

I think enhancements allow MORE creativity. but the majority of high level players dont wanna sacrifice wins by playing other builds,
so even if you nerf every stat spamming/5 focus build they will still just naturally gravitate towards the most successful build out there.

what your really suggesting is making it so that whichever build you choose actually means very little, so that any build could beat any
other and then people wouldnt be forced to just pick one build. but I just dont think its possible, the same problem will occur eventually.

blame the player, not the game

edwardvulture -> RE: The dev's refusal to press the "undo" button for enhancements (7/13/2011 20:09:40)

^If creativity=costumizability, then 4 enhancement slots would have been enough. It started out as something that will free up builds, but it eventally backfired and caused all these requirements that stifled creativity.

This Thread can remain open as long as you are not flaming the staff members or your fellow forum members. Please stay on topic.

Laces -> RE: The dev's refusal to press the "undo" button for enhancements (7/13/2011 21:13:34)

Umm...I disagree. Enhancements are all part of strategy.

@Edvard: Thanks. I thought it said "add a undo button for enhancements"

edwardvulture -> RE: The dev's refusal to press the "undo" button for enhancements (7/13/2011 21:16:16)

^no problem but wer talking about the restrictions we had to take in order for them to exist.

PumKing -> RE: The dev's refusal to press the "undo" button for enhancements (7/13/2011 21:48:57)

@edward, I find great irony in the fact that you make a post on something as frivolous as enhancements whem, if you really are the biggest cheep skate in the game you can ultimately buy enhancements purely by credits. What really deserves your ire is the fact that the tech mages have been COMPLETELY crippled for over a year now (yes, I say crippled when the ONLY build that they can use competitivly is a support malf build). Why does no one fight for the right for tech mages to be buffed, ever since gamma started NO ONE has ever said ANYTHING about tech mages being Oped, let alone competant.

-as a BH i support this-

rej -> RE: The dev's refusal to press the "undo" button for enhancements (7/13/2011 21:55:19)

its too late to remove them now. everyone would start screaming for refunds if they did (and with good reason)

mehmehmehmeh -> RE: The dev's refusal to press the "undo" button for enhancements (7/13/2011 22:18:39)

Did you notice that they put penalties on stats to "stop stat abuse", but they released enhancements right after?

It took 30 dollars to maintain the same build as i had before the update.

SummonerBrandon -> RE: The dev's refusal to press the "undo" button for enhancements (7/13/2011 22:29:12)

Um... I really need to count on enhancement. it is the only way through credits for me to stand up against varium users. -.- And may someone please answer my Enhancement Question in the Epic Duel Q & A section? I have a big problem on the price part.

Firewallblast -> RE: The dev's refusal to press the "undo" button for enhancements (7/13/2011 22:44:26)

Of course the problem is not only in enhancments its also the players and the players influence. Most if not all players care about their wins and their win loss ratio they dont want to try new things because it can hurt their "power" in epic duel. Most are reluctant to switch their build even if it is for the better. An example is when a player hears about a caster build he/she will atomatically think it will be worse then your build and not even going to try it. The player influence also plays a huge role in ur build type, there are so many players using the same build maybe not exactly the same but the idea is still the same. You may think that that build is better than yours when you lose to it and others with the same build. Most will chose to copy and modify it rather than build a counter for that build. This starts spreading and spreading until everyone has the same build idealy, now some people might have a different build but it still leaves it to those two builds. I think this might have started in beta and/or early gamma. Sure enhancments did make it easier to copy and modify those builds but it wouldnt have changed a thing if they were implemented. Enhancment created creativity in this game and they still do some players just can't or won't unlock that creativity. Even if enhancments were decided to be stopped, in this point of develpment you can't click the "undo" button. A lot of players would be asking for refunds and when they don't get them a gigantic flame war will start.

SummonerBrandon -> RE: The dev's refusal to press the "undo" button for enhancements (7/13/2011 22:48:29)

I really do not find the problem in enhancements. I mean, this is the only way for anyone who is a non-varium user to have a better chance against one who they would usually lose against, especially a varium user. As for me, I have created a build for my own and I think that it would be even greater once I hit level 33... hopefully...

Firewallblast -> RE: The dev's refusal to press the "undo" button for enhancements (7/13/2011 23:12:25)

^Enhancments are harder to come by for non-variums

edwardvulture -> RE: The dev's refusal to press the "undo" button for enhancements (7/13/2011 23:20:18)

^^The problem IS enhancements. They widen the varium to nonvarium gap by a lot considering most varium players are fully enhanced.
@Punking: I'm saying that because of enhancements all these "balance updates" kill our creativity.
If enhancements wern't removed and stat diminishemnt didn't apply, a nonvarium would stand absolutely no chance, even less than they have now, Almost a negative chance lol.
@mehehehehe- Yes as i stated, money scam xD
@FireWallBlast: That is a NOW problem. Back then in Beta, everyone stood a fair chance with any kind of build as long as it was efficient at some level. Xendran even made a caster build that worked. You could PM him for the lind or search it in youtube.

If the dev's were to refund enhancements and limit it to the primary weapon, it would show that they are not money hungry and that they care for the players. Guys, remember that stat diminishment was introduced at the exact same time of the sidearm and aux enhancments. People had to buy those extra stats to be exactly what they were before. The developers wouldn't lose money if enhancements were refunded, the players would just gain their varium back.

Remorse -> RE: The dev's refusal to press the "undo" button for enhancements (7/13/2011 23:24:32)

@edwardvulture , I 100% agree with you everything you mentioned is the exact same way i feel about this game and i have been trying to put out the exact same message you have been. As for enhacements I agree that they are prberly the worst out of all so called "balance adjustments" as they require purchasing not only that but they counteract what the other Balance Adjustments wre orignally put into place for. Eg. Stat diminishing which was made because spammers and builds that are Too powerful have created unbalance yet this problem would not have occered if enhacements wre never made or even just left on primary's and armours. But rather then fix this problem which i think they know enhacements is the cuase, they simply add pointless restricting Balance adjustments such as diminishing stats which then somehow gave them the exuse to add this teriable feature to guns and aux's.

Maybe when the devs think about balance for the game they should remove all thoughts of Profits from their heads.
Because so far, putting both these two things together has been nothing but an Epic Rip Off and an Epic Failure.

edwardvulture -> RE: The dev's refusal to press the "undo" button for enhancements (7/13/2011 23:27:17)

^indeed

LatinLover/Martini -> Enhancements - Be - Gone (7/13/2011 23:59:15)

anyone think that we should take away enhancements to save the CREATIVITY of this game. Agree or Disagree?

Remorse -> RE: Enhancements - Be - Gone (7/14/2011 0:01:50)

^ I agree or just take it back to just on primary's which is fair or just on armours, Those affected refunded of coarse.

IsaiahtheMage -> RE: Enhancements - Be - Gone (7/14/2011 0:04:20)

Disagree. Enhancements are awesome. Again I did not pay real money on this game to be destroyed the next week. Enhanments did not destroy creativty.

edwardvulture -> RE: Enhancements - Be - Gone (7/14/2011 0:09:33)

I agree hehe

T.600 -> RE: Enhancements - Be - Gone (7/14/2011 0:18:29)

Implementing enhancements into Epicduel was actually a good idea at first. Everyone was looking forward to it because it allowed us to add that extra bit of customisablity to our builds and we weren't restricted by the default stats of our weapons. I always wished I could have a few extra stat modifiers in dexterity and support, and most of the community expected the enhancement system to be like AQW's (scale by level). It turned out differently but it wasn't a total disaster at first. You could only enhance your primary, so the cost wasn't too bad. If they'd just added a credit option and left it as it was, then the enhancement system would have been fine. It was only when they started with armor enhancements, and then auxillary and gun enhancements that things just got too expensive and unaffordable.

Should enhancements be removed?
No, they shouldn't because they allow us to customise our stats in builds and they do give ur more stat modifiers. I know that they aren't keen on refunds, but they should remove gun and auxillary enhancements, then give us a refund for it. I'm not saying this because I want it, I'm saying it because it would please the community. Armor enhancements should stay because they were made just so founder armor could have a unique 10 enhancement slots. They could try this, and if things are still too expensive then they can reduce the varium cost for enhancements.

Enhancements don't really have an effect on the creativity of builds; agility, focus, stat requirements, stat diminishing and all the other various nerfs were what took away the 'creativity'. It all depends how you define creative; some may think that spamming one stat isn't creative, spamming health may not be creative and having high health maynot be considered creative. True, there may be some balance issues right now in Epicduel that the devs are trying to take care of, but creative is a very broad term. Since it is a broad term, it's very hard to bring true 'creativity' into this game.

Seeing this, I have to disagree with your initial statement although a few atlerations to the enhancement system would be appreciated.

Drakadh -> RE: Enhancements - Be - Gone (7/14/2011 1:08:46)

Take it away? Sorry but I disagree, the enhancements made it possible for non var to take down Boss NPCs and it would'nt be fair to the people who bought it already. Think of others before thinking for your self, for short DONT BE GREEDY!

~Drakadh

Thylek Shran -> RE: Enhancements - Be - Gone (7/14/2011 1:18:00)

They should just be reduced to 4 slots on each item included varium stuff to get some balance back.

AxeOFury -> RE: Enhancements - Be - Gone (7/14/2011 1:34:31)

Just reduce the varium cost... Jeez
