ND Mallet -> The Ugly Truth (10/13/2011 0:36:35)

Balance: ED isn't balanced. Chances are, your character may be one of those imbalances. When that happens you'll be getting a nerf and your "super" build will fall down to mortal power. It's always been that way. A build is overpowered and they nerf it. They still have a long way to go with balance so I suggest you quit whining and take it as it comes. A famous and powerful player once said "Winning is right. Losing is wrong. Evolve or die." You can whine all you want but the Balance team isn't going to change things back to unbalanced. You'll just have to be mature and let the Balance team do they're job. Do they enjoy getting yelled at? No. Do they get paid? No. So why? Because they want this game to prosper. The promise of a balanced PvP game will attract dozens of new players. If a change is too much then, you know, you could always use some math and screenshots or maybe a video or two to show why it's too much. Because how do we really know that your story of being beaten by a lower level non varium player holds any balance signifigance if you don't provide any numbers at all? Your build could be the problem and not the class itself. A picture is worth a thousand words you know. Not to mention it's better proof than your stories.

Varium: It's supposed to give an advantage for those who buy it, not an "Insta-win button." Right now, the gap between non varium and varium is too high. IIRC, Wiseman stated the gap should be equivalent to two levels of difference. Which is entirely fair in my opinion for someone to have for paying. F2Ps are important in this game because why would you buy varium if everyone else already has the same advantage you do?

Seasonal rare buffs: Many people hated this and still hate it. But they shouldn't. Why not though? Because this prevented weapon standards from being made. What does that mean? It means the stats of weapons will stop slowly creeping towards the skies. Why is that good? You don't have to buy a new weapon each time they're released because of extra stats. Enhancement slots will also get standards and be lower than what they are so less varium spent on enhancements. This means you won't have to buy 10k varium to get 3-4 new fully enhanced weapons.

Releasing on time: 2 full time staff, 1 apprentice coder and 1 part time artist. You can't expect everything to get done with 3 experienced people and 1 apprentice on time. 2 members do the coding and I assume only one can go through and fix the bugs that may occur. If you haven't noticed, ED is often less buggy than the other games because Titan likes to take his time looking for bugs. He's not one to rush something for a due date unless it's absolutely neccessary. I recall him saying that he encountered one bug with class change that could potentially corrupt character data. So do you really want an update on time if it means a potential loss of your character?

Midnightsoul -> RE: The Ugly Truth (10/13/2011 1:18:58)

1)everything about balance is fine with me
2)what?!?! ppl hate seasonal rares?! really?! omg thats a bad thing to hate, it saves u money! especially because of yearly buffs! D:
3)ur right about that. its just when i hear about seasonal rares is when i get impatient.

(yes, u may call me Mr. Seasonal now...*grabbed the salt and pepper*)

PD -> RE: The Ugly Truth (10/13/2011 1:28:02)

Varium isn't supposed to be something that gives you an inherent advantage. It's supposed to raise revenue for ED so they can get the supplies to work on ED to get more updates out. The power advantage is but an incentive to buy buy and buy. There's a difference between "supposed to give you an advantage" and "advantage included as an incentive to buy varium". Of course, if varium didn't give an advantage, I'd jump into a volcano to reject my hypothesis that people would buy varium out of their hearts for the un-selfish desire to save the game, people, balance, and its livelihood

Minus123 -> RE: The Ugly Truth (10/13/2011 1:29:50)

Completely agree with everything above.

Just had an example of your second point. I was partnered with a str tact merc today, who kept disagreeing with my tactics saying "I'm a tact merc, so i win no matter what"
He was lvl 30, but players shouldn't get that mentality when they get varium. The gap between f2p and var's pretty much give the idea that when they're against non variums, it's an insta-win.

Drianx -> RE: The Ugly Truth (10/13/2011 5:54:10)

Agreed with some observation: if weapons and enhancements will come to a standard, how will varium be sold? Will it turn into some kind of membership?

I'm asking because I know one thing - 99% of varium is purchased because the currently released weapon/armor is better than everything that was released so far. This is a sad fact, but I know that people are not after looks - AQW is for that - but after wins. And wins come from some sort of advantage that people are willing to pay for. And skill too, but that is not something everyone has.

I think the devs are forced to keep releasing better and better items for keeping the varium business alive.

How could that be fixed? What ideas could be implemented in order to keep varium sales and not release stuff with higher stats every update?

classifiedname -> RE: The Ugly Truth (10/13/2011 6:22:43)

i agree to fact that evolve or die has to happen ive always done that but varium shouldnt be just a 2 level gap if the people cant pay for the game its not our problem (or if they just dont want to). varium weps have always been a major advantage to those who buy it and should stay that way.. besides thery're going to have a hard time selling var if they are just going to make non- var weps just as good. so if they wont stop making better weps that cost varium then people are going to stop buying it like PD said in the post above. or unless some rich people dicide to save the game with buying usless varium

ND Mallet -> RE: The Ugly Truth (10/13/2011 8:40:13)

@drian You forget that many people still class and name change as well. That makes a large amount of revenue for the game. And just because the weapons have standards don't mean they'll be clones of each other. One weapon may have 8 strength instead of 8 support or 1 extra damage for 4 less stats. It all really depends on how the stats and damage of the weapons appeal to the person behind the screen.

@bloodknight Did you read what I posted even? I said people hated the fact that they would stop getting buffed each year.

@PD Yes there is a difference but the difference is a small classification thing. Either way you look at it, you still have the advantage of buying varium.

@classified I do not know whether the 2 level gap was overall with stats(highly unlikely) or 2 levels per weapon. Like I said in the post, varium isn't supposed to be an instant win or else the staff would've removed all skills and strike from varium players and replaced it with a "Win" button.

BlueKatz -> RE: The Ugly Truth (10/13/2011 8:42:18)

Evolve or die

Oh that's why people quit

That would be Shaniqua. Anyways, yes this is all true and people should never whine about it.

Wait, are you telling me that the rest of you have a strike button where my "WIN" button is? No wonder you all lose so much. That explains a lot, thanks ND for this very useful information. [;)]

Midnightsoul -> RE: The Ugly Truth (10/13/2011 9:15:58)

@ND

oops. >_<
then yes, i hate it when it doesnt get buffed.

Thats why i lost to you.... when I fought you my strike button was replaced by a "DA SELFDESTRUCT" button, maybe I should get varium

On topic: varium is suppose to give some sort of advantage cuz you pay to get them (I still dont get how membership and ACC gives advantage) , that doesnt mean that you automatically lose when you play against people who use them, but my greatest concern is in the 2vs2 (i dont say 'team battle') where partners that have varium sometimes are arrogant (usually low lvls) and when i dont listen or he wont listen to some advices, he'll just say "fine i'll die, we lose cuz you dont have varium" (in the end he died and I still won). So what im sayin is that varium should give advantages i dont care, but maybe some respect from some low lvls that i pwn-ed will be great

PD -> RE: The Ugly Truth (10/13/2011 10:17:15)

^No, the purpose of all 2ndary currencies in all games everywhere is to raise revenue. The Power advantage is only a package deal.

You're using an awfully arrogant argument by saying you deserve to get the power because you paid for it. That's the same reasoning behind the problem of entitlements.

Everyone please read the Subjective theory of value to understand why I highly dislike the above argument.

PivotalDisorder -> RE: The Ugly Truth (10/13/2011 10:35:04)

well if you weren't gonna get the power would you pay at all? picking at the wording of this desire seems a bit sad. its a game, not a degree in English.

fact is, peoples personas online are usually very different to how they are in real life, and this is identifiable in pretty much every online activity. doesn't
matter whether you are equal, separated by cash purchases or separated by skill, you are always gonna get a ton of arrogant players tearing you down.

the game is closing in on balance for sure. I understand frustration that it can take months/years to actually fix a balance issue though.

tigura -> RE: The Ugly Truth (10/13/2011 10:44:12)

^I agree. I hate that theory. Not only is it an arrogant statement, it shows just how greedy some people are. Many people think: varium = invincibility. This is not the case...

Justifying delays and mediocrity never improves anything. It only gives people the impression that it's okay to miss deadlines and not follow through with the things they've asserted they'd do.

Why not hold ED to a higher standard?

After all, we certainly pay them enough money to have realistic expectations .... [;)]

LambO -> RE: The Ugly Truth (10/13/2011 11:30:40)

1. Why there is alot of amazing players in this game that know alot more than the ED balance team. Things would get balanced if you just ask for help. Instead of "thinking" they know & doing something silly like overpowering Tact Mercs.
(I don't know anything about the new classes, but what I've heard it's just...)

2. The amount of how much the varium costs, which is a rip off obviously, should not be 2 levels different between a paying player & a non paying player. Unless the price of varium comes down or we get more for our money, then the GAP should be a big gap.

3. To me if they don't want to buff the items, or give them more enhancements so people can use the weapon they been waiting a year or so for, then make it rare. Waste of time bringing back items that will fail against better weapons, ie Delta weapons.

4. Small team, god do they make us know about it, lol.
Still though, does it take any effort just to ask DF, AQW teams etc, just for a little help?
Yes the codes or whatever might be different, but surely they've been around long enough to know how to get things known fast & people like Dage & stuff could just whip up alot of items in a day or so.

My opinion.

Calogero -> RE: The Ugly Truth (10/13/2011 11:39:52)

To add at Frogbones

We never told them to make a deadline, that is their own choice hence why we expect them to be on time seeing they choose to ' release ' every friday...

*yawn*

encourage all you want, the ED devs and team usually do what they feel is best regardless, the suggestions are really just there to make it feel like you
can contribute when really we are gamers, not game makers and don't have the kind of knowledge and experience required to run this great game.

frogbones -> RE: The Ugly Truth (10/13/2011 12:35:18)

^

Lol, you were bored enough to post a reply?

Also, like I told you before: You're new to ED, so when you post things like
quote:

the suggestions are really just there to make it feel like you can contribute when really we are gamers, not game makers and don't have the kind of knowledge and experience required to run this great game.
you really show how green you are.

Factually speaking, (and you wouldn't know this because you haven't been around long) there have been many aspects of this game that were added or changed specifically because of player input via the forums.

Please, before you make future statements that are patently false, try to stick within your realm of experience. Otherwise you run the risk of sounding misinformed.

Hotairballoons -> RE: The Ugly Truth (10/13/2011 12:37:48)

THe low number of staff is quite a surprise to me...not that they are so few, I already knew that, but why there aren't many more. With the price of varium...doesn't ED pull in A TON of money??

Elf Priest JZaanu -> RE: The Ugly Truth (10/13/2011 12:55:27)

Constructive criticism and whining has a fine line, and that is respect. When there are issues in any aspect of this game that does interfere with one's desire for fairness and enjoyment, it is their right to state their opinion.

Presenting factual numbers is difficult since each player can only document their own experiences. Only validation of any true problem is when there is a mass issue/complaint of the same of that problem.

Express how you wish, but just only speak of the matter with respect and stem away from personal attacks because of your dislike of the situation. Bottom-line, this game is run by people, and everyone deserves consideration and respect.

PivotalDisorder -> RE: The Ugly Truth (10/13/2011 13:01:03)

@Frogbones: I think you missed the joke. sorry man.

how green I am? GTFO with that elitist garbage.

the most important FACT [I know you like facts] is you don't have any idea how the game is run behind the scenes, or the level of AEs involvement.
you can guess, but it would be just as good a guess as a "green" player. so keep posting the same thing if you like, broken record and all that.

@Hotairballoons: I think the ED main staff are on fixed salary, and the profits are mainly syphoned into AE. just a "green" persons guess though.

frogbones -> RE: The Ugly Truth (10/13/2011 13:06:22)

Someone once said that respect is earned, not given.

But yes, JZ, you make a valid point regarding being consideration. So while we do not have to necessarily respect someone, being polite will go a long way.

@ Psi: Elitist garbage? Lol. By your logic, everyone with more experience and/or knoweldge than someone else is elitist.

Elitism is not knowing more than someone else. It's thinking you're better than them because of it.

PivotalDisorder -> RE: The Ugly Truth (10/13/2011 13:33:23)

@Frog Bones:you do think you are better because you know more. its obvious in every reply.

@Jzaanu: respect isn't a fixed rule, everyone has their own feelings about how to earn respect. I can earn respect from one person and lose it from another,
doing the exact same thing. does that make any sense really? a lot of it is "be nice" but half the time, those who say it gang up on you if you disagree with
their friend [or another female] which I personally find very disrespectful. wish it was all black and white :)
