Frostval War 2011 -Prologue- A flash of blue fire dissipates in my hand as the four practice dummies disintegrate in the bright sapphire flames. “You’re getting better.” said Warlic. “Yes, but nowhere near the power of the great warmongers.” I replied. “Patience, Muchiha. In time you will become strong, achieve your own greatness and ultimately, create your own legacy.” said Jackel Sano. After the Paxia war and my encounter with a fierce Troglodyte I, Muchiha Mythios knew I had a lot of work to do in order to increase my capabilities as a mage. I spent months dedicated to studying new spells, upgrading certain equipment, and the overall improvement of my skills in battle from manuverability to swordsmanship. It required a lot of travelling around Lore. From increasing my overall speed in practised combat with the drakel trainer, refreshing my basic battle skills from Blackhawke in Battleon, to refining my overall magic capabilities with Archmage Warlic and Wizard extraordinaire, Jackel Sano. I also travelled to Krovesport to learn some techniques from Master Assassins Wallo and Chii in case I needed to camouflage myself in a crowd for hiding and escape, crafting tools for distraction and cover, and to an extent, learning a few stealth techniques to gain the upper hand in a tough battle or when fighting multiple opponents. “On an unrelated subject, I believe it is Frostval this time of year is it not?” I inquired. “Why yes it is.” said Warlic. “Which reminds me. You have a letter.” “From who?” I asked. “Don’t know.” replied Warlic. I look at the parchment for a couple of seconds. I then said to my mentors, “Master Jackel, Master Warlic, if anyone asks for my whereabouts, you are to tell them that I am on a short vacation to Lolosia. I will be back on the 2nd of January of the new year.” I called for my horse and rode out of the mage training grounds at top speed. Warlic and Jackel Sano examined the opened letter I dropped, and find a short message hastily scribbled down in red ink: Muchiha, there is a new threat approaching Battleon. We need all the help we can get. Come as soon as possible. Signed- Mystical Warrior Elryn the Warmage BlackAces- Guardian of Lore Necrolich- Vindicator of Darkness Chapter 1: Preparations I ride through the front gates of my Estate in the woods of Darkovia. I walk inside my mansion and grabbed medicinal herbs, food, my staff, my re-designed sword, spell scrolls recently obtained in Varrinsqu Keep, crafted bombs, and a pouch full of red, blue, and green test tubes. I then walk towards the back of my estate and stare at the Mega World Portal before me. Many people would think that I would have an army from another planet by owning this device. This is false. I personally asked Anwyn the Archmage to tweak it for me to summon a different kind of army. Rather small yet steadily growing in number, I own an army of highly trained and incredibly talented Assassins. Graduates of Wallo and Chii’s Assassin program, they are recruited by myself. Further training in melee combat with Sir Tathlin, magic deflection & protection sessions with Neberon the Mage, and ranged weaponry classes with Robina the Ranger, strengthen the recruits’ overall attributes and prepares them for most types of attacks. When a war is not taking place, they are usually training at a facility. Location is confidential. You see, when people summon their armies to attack, they are usually directed towards a frontal assault. This leaves the opponent focused up front, which is good. Using my Assassin army, I take advantage of this opportunity with their stealth that can be used for Intel gathering, reinforcements, and of course, assassinations. Placing a turquoise sphere at the base of the portal, I departed towards my next destination. Getting off my horse, I see a multitude of Adventurers and Guardians. They were all in discussion about the return of two notorious villains and a looming threat that would jeopardize many lives. I approached a small group of Guardians in conversation and asked, “Seasons greetings my fellow Guardians. Do you know where I can find any of the warmongers?” They all stopped talking. “You don’t mean the legendary warmongers,” said one Guardian Warrior. “Sorry to disappoint you my friend, but we rarely see them. However, there were instances in past wars when members of our battalion catched them in action. It was quite a treat.” “Thanks anyway. I bid you good day fellow comrades.” I replied and went on my way. As I make my way through the crowd, I notice warriors sharpening their weapons, wizards practicing their battle spells, and barricades being put up by the local townspeople. About to open the door of a nearby tavern, a white dove flew into my shoulder. In its talons was a tiny scroll. Line by line, I read the message: Muchiha, we have some business to take care of. While you are in town, do the following: #1) Set up a mana shield covering Battleon, with an extra barrier covering the Guardian Tower itself. #2) Gather the townspeople and find out the safest places for the women, children, and the elderly to stay for the next couple of weeks. #3) If you have read the first two instructions, send a large firework up in the sky to show us you understand. I point my left index finger to the sky and shouted: “Pramium Incendia!” A large ball of scarlet flame shot out, high into the sky and exploded into a beautiful sphere of fire. Some of the townsfolk and children stopped to observe my random act of magic. Returning my attention to the scroll, it read: #4) You didn’t have to do #3) This was for our sheer amusement. “Fools, I’ll show you amusement when we meet.” I said in angry tones We will be in touch. Until next time…. Suddenly, the white dove soared into the bright blue sky and exploded leaving the final word in the form of clouds: - Warmongers “I gotta admit, they got style.” Chapter 2: A monster of monumental proportions / Return of the Warmongers The following morning in Yulgar’s Inn, I awoke to a startling earthquake. Grabbing my belongings, I rushed out of the Inn and into the snow covered ground. Warriors were retreating quickly and Mages with tiresome looks on their faces as they shield themselves of the onslaught of attacks. Just then, a Guardian Warrior approached me. “Muchiha! Although the townspeople have been sucessfully evacuated, we too must retreat for the moment. We never anticipated a beast of that size to come, breaking all the barricades, overpowering our fighters, and fending off spells cast by our mages. From what I heard around town, you are a powerful mage, making you a valuable asset in thwarting the plans of Jack Frost and Tydlee Wynx to ruin Frostval. I am ordered to escort you to one of the safe zones.” “Jack Frost and Tydlee Wynx…. Past enemies that aimed to ruined Frostval in their respective years. But, how… did they come up with this?” I thought to myself I look up at the monstrosity that had a familiar face. “Carnax? No his body color is different. Unless…..” “Where is Chilly the Frost Moglin? He usually comes to Battleon during Frostval.” I asked the warrior. “Based on some reports coming in, it appears that Jack Frost and Tydlee, somehow turned Chilly into this monster referred to as “Chillax”” he replied. “You go without me. Protect the women, elderly, and most importantly, the children. They are the future of Battleon. Go now!” I said to him When he was out of sight, I closed my eyes and gathered my mana, thinking: “This is my chance to prove to others, and most importantly, to myself just how far I’ve come.” Opening my eyes, with staff in hand, I cast my newly attained fire spells. “Incendia Redimio!” Three dozen pillars of flame erupted on each side of Chillax, moving and twisting like thick ropes. They then wrapped around the monster’s waist and upper body, still connected to the ground. “Igneus Culmen!” A massive pillar of blazing fire engulfed Chillax, shooting high into the sky. I observe the outcome of the spell’s effect on Chillax, only to find no visible damage. “The flame ropes are still there. Good. If I can halt this creature in its tracks it will not only limit the number of casualties, but also give us enough time to come up with a solution on how to defeat it.” I said to myself Knowing my next objective, I used my newly improved binding spell. “Crystalis Vincula!” Invisible, crystal chains burst from the ground this time wrapping around Chillax’s legs and feet, restricting its movement. “That will hold him down, for now. I guess I’ll just have t- ” In that instant I see Chillax, charged with an attack centered in its horrifying middle eye, ready to fire. Through instinct, I yelled: “CONTEGO TOTALUM!” A shining sky-blue spherical shield surrounded me in moments as Chillax launched a concentrated blast of fire in my direction. The ground around me exploded with the sheer power generated. Debris from neighbouring houses flew in all directions. When visibility returned to my eyes, I was astounded. A crater about 50 meters wide and 25 meters deep was left in the aftermath. At this point, I had two-thirds of my mana left. I look up and see a small battalion with several monsters closing distance towards me. Chillax was charging another attack. “As long as Chillax keeps using its laser eye-beam attack on me, I cannot do much. The attack itself is powerful, but let’s see how long it can keep this up.” I close my eyes. A white aura emanates from my body. Un-equiping my staff and clasping my hands together, I uttered: “Mauris Magna” My movements tripled in speed. Chillax fired a series of laser-blasts that were weaker in power than the last two, but definitely quicker in succession. I barely manage to dodge the onslaught of attacks. Moving swiftly behind the monsters’ backs, I taunted the menacing creatures with an onslaught of my own. “Lamina Caelo!” Fifty broad-sword blades rained down from a violet portal in the sky on Chillax as well as the monsters and, combined with my enhanced movement, confused Chillax as it fires its laser attacks randomly towards the sky. I stop to rest. Noticing Chillax also breathing heavily, I said, “I hope that did the trick.” Right at that moment Chillax’s thunderous roar shook the very air, and sent an enlarged brilliant blood-red beam at me. It was too late for me to react. “Forgive me, citizens of Battleon, I could not protect you.” I close my eyes and braced myself. After a few seconds, I realize the attack had not reached me. I open my eyes and see something that I have only heard of in numerous stories during my travels. Something described as legendary. A gear portal stood before me, absorbing the last of Chillax’s beam attack. For the next minute, I would witness the reunion of a group of talented individuals, known throughout Lore. One by one I determined the name purely based on their appearance and well-known skills. “BlackAces…. and his companions Hikariken Aces & Kaminari Ryu” Before I could say anything else, two familiar figures dashed forward, uttering their signature attacks: The menacing figure of the two raised his weapon and yelled: “Colosseo Guard!” Walls of an ancient colliseum burst from the ground. All the monsters towered in fear, somehow knowing that this was the end for them. The second figure, clad in shining armor raised his weapon and uttered: “Flash Cut” Within that instant, a third of the monsters within the area were instantly cut down. “Mystical Warrior…Nightmare Warrior…” Following suit, a dark burst of energy crashed down upon the vicinity taking another one third of the monsters with it. The shadowy figure laughed as he started to absorb their essences. “Necrolich…” Finally, howling winds surrounded the battlefield, and wiped out the remaining forces of that small battalion. The figure, wearing the skull of a ram’s head with armor of bark and leather, composed, grinning at the sight before him. “Elryn…” They have returned, ready for battle. Chapter 3: Operation “Winter STORM” Late in the afternoon, gathered in the lounge of Yulgar’s Inn are BlackAces, Mystical Warrior, Elryn, and myself. Once we were all settled down, I asked, “Where did Hikariken Aces, Kaminiari Ryu, Nightmare Warrior, and Necrolich go?” BlackAces: “Hikariken Aces and Kaminiari Ryu went off into battle already. They seem rather anxious to test their new skills out in the battlefield.” Mystical Warrior: “Nightmare Warrior needed some fresh air. He enjoys battle." Elryn: “As for Necrolich, well, he doesn’t fair well in discussions and would rather spend his time in combat. I just don’t know what goes on inside that head of his.” Muchiha: “I see. Well, back to the matter at hand. As you all know, Chillax is causing quite a stir for the town of Battleon. I managed to bind him to some extent so he would not progress further into Battleon. Because of Chillax’s restricted movement, it also allows anyone powerful enough to spar with various parts of him such as its legs, arms, and head. In addition, for those who think they can verse Chillax one-on-one we added that possibility.” BlackAces: “How do you intend to get Adventurers and Guardians in range to attack the higher parts of Chillax, such as its head?” Muchiha: “Through the use and manipulation of mana ice.” Mystical Warrior: “Please explain.” Muchiha: “Certainly, with the help of Warlic and Riona Shadowgale, we have constructed several mana-ice platforms that are, for the most part unbreakable. Anyone may battle parts of Chillax or the whole of Chillax himself without the fear about any of the platforms breaking.” Elryn: “Well done Muchiha. Now, what is the second order of business you wished to discuss?” Muchiha: “The large army accompanying Jack Frost and Tydlee Winx has now arrived near the outskirts of Battleon. From the Intel gathered by one of my Assassin units, the army is mostly composed of Jotun Warriors, Jotun Shivites, Gnomes, animated Christmas trees, Blockmen, Toy Chests, Toy monkeys, and Frost Soldiers. Now, as this unit was investigating further, they picked up something else.” Mystical Warrior: “What did they manage to uncover?” Muchiha: “It appears that a portion of the army sent to Battleon have been travelling to nearby towns, looting treasure.” Mystical Warrior: “I have an idea. We will send a good portion of our personal armies to safeguard and extract any monsters wishing to loot the nearby villages. The remainder of our armies we will send to protect Battleon.” BlackAces: “Elryn, Mystical Warrior, and I shall head down to the main battlefield.” Muchiha: “Then I will personally lead the extraction team composed of the portion of your personal armies you send and my Assassin army to make sure that no town is looted for the duration of this war. Once that situation is under control, I shall join you guys.” BlackAces: “Excellent. We leave the nearby towns in your hands Muchiha. Although, something is missing.” Muchiha: “What would that be?” BlackAces: “A name for our planned assault.” Mystical Warrior: “For a good plan like this, we need a good name.” Muchiha: “Well, I’ve been saving this for a rainy day. We can call it the Strategic Tactics Of Removing frostval Menaces. And we can shorten it to STORM. And I believe Terrans call this current season of the year Winter. How about we name it Operation Winter Storm.” BlackAces: “Sounds good to me.” Elryn: (grins) "Alright then. Time is of the essence. We all know what we have to do." Elryn raises his right hand. An aura of light surrounds him Mystical Warrior, and BlackAces. I then say to them: “About that note… whose idea was it to make me waste my mana on a firework?” Smiling, Elryn said, “If you can manage to defeat more monsters than myself, BlackAces, and Mystical Warrior combined by the end of this war, we shall tell you.”Enraged I said, “But… you people are the legendary warmongers. AND you have a head start!” “Well then, you better get to it.” said Mystical Warrior And with that, the Warmongers teleported out the room in a flash of light. Summoning my communication orb, I contacted two of the five commanders of my army. “Commander Arkeos, Commander Matthias, you will be expecting a portion of Mystical Warrior’s, Elryn’s, and BlackAces’ armies. Please instruct them for our planned travel route and the various stakeouts for the nearby towns and villages. Supply them with shelter, food, drink, extra clothing, and weapons should they ask. Break up the combined armies and assemble them into units with at least five Assassins to ensure their safety and assistance should they need any. After that tell them to get a good night’s rest, for they will need strength for the upcoming tasks ahead. I shall arrive to our set-up central station by tomorrow morning. We shall travel to the villages the moment I arrive. Make haste my friends.” “Understood sir.” said Commander Arkeos. “Good. I’ll see you tomorrow.” Putting away my communication orb, I headed for the entrance of the Inn thinking: “I’m gonna get them back for that prank…somehow.” I said as I stomped out of Yulgar’s Inn and slammed the door behind me.
