Chosen 0ne -> Well done LB & In an effort for a better community (1/14/2012 20:24:39)

Allright in case you have not seen the new thread, do so here. http://forums2.battleon.com/f/tm.asp?m=19993466

Lord Barius has made some real good points, and I, for one, think we as a community need to step over to a new level.

We are ALL aware that this game DOES have potential, but that doesnt mean we need to flame others for not having the same vision as others do.

I think in an effort for a better community, changes should be made. What kinds of changes, this is what this thread is about!

This, is going to be a discussion, on what YOU will do to help make this community better. :D

I for one, am going to be more positive, and think more before posting, and include a smiley face or two in some posts.

It takes all of us to make the community better. If you post here, I expect you to do what you say, and put it into actions, earlier today, i sent a pretty big p.m. addressing this issue, and have gotten some good feedback on it.

So, what are YOU going to do to help make the ED community a better place? :D

DiscussiOn! (like battleOn and discussion lol) :)

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: Well done LB & In an effort for a better community (1/14/2012 20:29:02)

Well im just gonna keep doing what I've been doing today I've been really nice today answering three or four question(more like 10 because one guy had an unending stream of question but he was fun to work with) and did my normal posting on EDGD style of laid back

Algorithm -> RE: Well done LB & In an effort for a better community (1/14/2012 20:29:05)

Nice

in order to prevent confusing when others read my posts, i will write "this isn't a flame, troll, or insult attempt" when replying back to other players or when talking of other staff/mods because people seem to read my posts in a way that sound as if im screaming at them or something >.>

this isn't a flame, troll, or insult attempt

@Goldslayer, lol, just make that your signature XD

Jekyll -> RE: Well done LB & In an effort for a better community (1/14/2012 20:31:32)

I just dislike the sense of arrogance/superiority which permeated some of the posts which was not very nice to some. I have seen fewer trolls here, and some which we know of seem to have disappeared (magic?). I really hope that LB's reminder will have an effect on both the forums and the game itself.

xxmirxx -> RE: Well done LB & In an effort for a better community (1/14/2012 20:32:54)

No one wasn't doing anything wrong we were just express are feeling towards both achievement in fact were try to respectful as much we can so LB does it again putting blame on us. When we were trying to get them to not blame players and for those who decide to switched sides to get both achievement. We want one achievement instead of 2 combining both of them.

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: Well done LB & In an effort for a better community (1/14/2012 20:34:10)

@Jekyll sadly the part of Ed that uses the forums is very small so us becoming nicer might have little to no affect on the people in the game. But it might trickle down slowly and a future generation of ED gamers will be nicer

sadly i can only use my sig once per page.
and idk if u noticed but my post count in this forum is over 5600

Ranloth -> RE: Well done LB & In an effort for a better community (1/14/2012 20:36:52)

@xxmirxx
If you've seen DNs topic earlier, you should know what kind of stuff was happening..

Anyway, I actually like the change. Unless we work for it, we will be moderated more but it means a lot less trolls really which is better as they mainly push people away from this part of the Forum, or the actual Forum itself.. :S Constructive feedback > flaming, they are similar in a way but you can point out where something went wrong and suggest what can be done - not blame the Devs and leave. Really hope to see more improvements in this part of the Forum! :)

Fay Beeee -> RE: Well done LB & In an effort for a better community (1/14/2012 20:37:26)

Mir you may not have thought wrong was being done.

Remember that the typed word does not always come across to other players, how I am sure it was intended. I have done this myself a few times.

We just have to think how others will read it.

Well done LB

added this as it may have come across wrong. No offence Mir, just trying to explain how I saw it. Sorry if you thought I was picking on you.

TankMage -> RE: Well done LB & In an effort for a better community (1/14/2012 20:38:01)

I for one am extremely grateful for LB's new policy, I have believed that the EpicDuel forum community has been slowly going downhill for quite some time now and needed a change. Hopefully the changes bring some more discussion based topics, this is definitely a change in the right direction. Best of luck foruming [:D]!

Jekyll -> RE: Well done LB & In an effort for a better community (1/14/2012 20:38:48)

Another reason for all this unfriendliness and flaming/trolling which is "unique" to EDGD is the nature of the game itself. If you compare us to AQ, DF, etc, there is really nothing much to compete with each other about. Competitiveness is one thing, arrogance and looking down on others is another.

sadly though constructive criticism is seen as flaming/trolling at times.

and thats where hate towards mods begins. its because of how they read things.

this isn't a flame, troll, or insult attempt

ambien -> RE: Well done LB & In an effort for a better community (1/14/2012 20:41:59)

l dnt mean to pick on no one l just said dummying was a sad part that ED has to be addressed soon.

there r alot of ppl who play fair and dnt cheat. the cheaters rune the game and makes other ppl upset.

the mods have a tough enough job on the site and l give them the highest respect for what they do. they do a great job.
and then if l put a smiley face on my post if l under right l will get in trouble.
then plz remove them so ppl cannot use them.

always the SyFy

xxmirxx -> RE: Well done LB & In an effort for a better community (1/14/2012 20:43:42)

Name example were there was flamming going on and also Im getting really annoyed how people go around accuse goldslayer or buffy for flaming they both do not flame. Take from me I use to flame alot and troll as well so I do know difference between flamming/troll are. What people need understand is some of us are just fed up with I notice many of people that use to play either quit or just stop buy varium.

Ranloth -> RE: Well done LB & In an effort for a better community (1/14/2012 20:43:42)

Yeah that's true goldslayer, but if Mods warn you for that - you can prove your point to them if that was a mistake.
That's why LB mentions respect to each other's opinions - it will help with it as you have right for your opinion and others might disagree but not completly flame it. ^^

New Era for ED Forum begins me thinks? xD

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: Well done LB & In an effort for a better community (1/14/2012 20:46:31)

@Gold Rainaka, or as you all call him Lycus, sent me a PM after i posted the only difference between constructive criticism is the word because. If you can back up your opinion with data, hopefully unbiased but i cannot ask for to much, then you are no longer complaining you are offer criticism. Now you can go one step farther and offer a solution to the problem you are suggesting a fix to the problem instead of just complaining.

sadly though constructive criticism is seen as flaming/trolling at times.

and thats where hate towards mods begins. its because of how they read things.
and thats probably because some players me be labeled as flamer/trolls.

for example, if i posted suggestion with criticism towards mods about a release and how it can be improved
people read it as if im intending to flame. now if someone like fay beee wrote the same thing, it would be seen as nice and trying to help.

i think everyone complains about something to a certain extent. but not all complains back it up with data and solutions.

Chosen 0ne -> RE: Well done LB & In an effort for a better community (1/14/2012 20:54:43)

@Gold, add hundreds of emotes, good ones, not mean ones, then you wont be flaming anymore, youll just be that wierd dude who always smiles XD.

Lord Barrius -> RE: Well done LB & In an effort for a better community (1/14/2012 20:55:08)

goldslayer1: A tip to help you is to look at the post from the other person's perspective. If you were that person, would what you said to them offend you or spark a negative reaction? If so, then you probably went too far and you should try to dial it back. Doesn't work for everyone, but for some (like myself) it can help you catch yourself before you say something you may regret.

Debates can get very intense and it's not uncommon or hard for them to start stepping into the realm of personal attacks. What I'm asking you to do is strive to avoid those sorts of attacks, because they only result in everyone's feelings getting hurt and no one gets what they wanted. If, instead, you debate with each other and agree to disagree, that's fine. No one gets hurt and you each got an opportunity to understand where the other person might be coming from, and why they believe as they do.

Part of our job is making sure that people feel welcome here, and that means enforcing rules that some may not like, not because we're mean but because those rules definitely provide significant benefits that aid the community in being a safe, constructive, friendly place to be. Don't hate us for doing our job, because if we didn't do that job, it would only make the community suffer as a result. Some of the very worst forum communities out there are not bad communities due to too much moderation, but rather, not nearly enough. And when the forums look bad, the game looks bad, and the game starts to suffer too. I'm pretty sure none of us want that.

We're all here to make things better, not worse. We just disagree on how to go about that. And that's okay. Disagreements happen all the time in real life. It makes more sense for us to each provide our side of the story and to explain it to others so that, even if we still don't agree in the end, we at least understand each other's points of view.

xxmirxx: I would have to strongly disagree with you. The DN thread was removed due to extreme misbehavior. Forum members were attacking each other as well as staff in such a derogatory, inflammatory manner that it was only making things worse and worse. That's why the discussion is currently on hold for a while, so everyone can have an opportunity to cool down and regain a clear head.

MirageD -> RE: Well done LB & In an effort for a better community (1/14/2012 20:58:32)

i would like to respectfully request examples of why the previous "release" thread was deleted?.....i logged off for a few hours and now it's gone?...other threads have been left that were just as contentious...but they may have not included constructive criticism of AE??? what exactly are the rules? we as a community can't give advice/feedback to AE, a company we are trying to support? but we must submit to being treated as children/students by ppl with green names?

posted this prior to reading LB's post above.....i appreciate his post and now understand what happened

edited once more: i understand the lock on the previous thread, but don't understand the delete??...can you be more specific on why that thread was deleted?

LOL i actually had a teacher that always smiled. u would never see a frown. it would just be like a U form ontop of his chin LOL.
i use to call him Mr. Joker

i just hope that not another way of saying "dont talk bad about the game or u will be punished" because that is sometimes what it seems.

boy typing this in every single post is gonna need some getting use to.

I have to disagree with you So call potential we been saying that since game started I agree like many of you I through game would one of greats like runescape but we haven't change. I am not mad with all staff just few to be honest I don't think most of tester do good job minus alley cat and wiseman and cindy. The rest of them hardly play ED they use there famous excuse there on there alt. Heres fact real testing starts when you reach level cap. To be honest non varium are always getting worst I mean the worst . We still got know robots and weapons are really out of date for once I like to see ED update are weapons to level cap. Im not asking to as good as carium but just getting level 34 weapons and armours with good stats.

Chosen 0ne -> RE: Well done LB & In an effort for a better community (1/14/2012 21:04:59)

@Gold, lol, i was making a reference to my girlfriend, if she does frown, it will be the absolute strangest moment ever, if somebody makes her cry, that person will be in tears later, after thinking about what he has just done.

On Topic: Lets get back to the discussion, what will you do, in an effort to make ED a better place? :D
