    How to Equip Items

    «Menu Bar is displayed below Tek's face.»

Tek: Your Inventory Screen may be accessed in certain areas via the Inventory Button on the Menu Bar.

«A text box points to the "Equip" button on the Menu Bar.»

"Equip: Press this button to access your Inventory Screen, where you may equip and unequip items!"

«Clicking "Next" brings you to your Inventory.»

Tek: This is your Inventory Screen! Your mecha chassis has Equip Slots where weapons fit!
Tek: Mecha Equip Slots are Front Arm, Back Arm, Front Shoulder, Back Shoulder, and Head.
Tek: If you cannot equip a weapon, it will show up as red on your list...
Tek: For Example: The Newbatron (the official starter mecha) does not have a slot to equip a Front Shoulder weapon...
Tek: So, Front Shoulders appear red on the Inventory Screen when you have a Newbatron equipped.
Tek: Your Inventory List appears in the box to the right of me!

«A text box points to the Inventory List.»

"Inventory List: Shows all of your weapons. If an item appears in RED TEXT, it may not be Equipped on your mecha."

Tek: You can sort your items according to Equip slot with the following buttons...

«A series of text boxes follow.»

"Sort Button: Heads: When you press this button, the Inventory List will show only the items that work with the Head Equip Slot."
"Sort Button: Front Arms: When you press this button, the Inventory List will show only the items that work with the Front Arm Slot."
"Sort Button: Back Arms: When you press this button, the Inventory List will show only the items that work with the Back Arm Slot."
"Sort Button: Front Shoulders: When you press this button, the Inventory List will show only the items that work with the F. Shoulder Slot."
"Sort Button: Back Shoulders: When you press this button, the Inventory List will show only the items that work with the B. Shoulder Slot."
"Sort Button: Non-Mecha Items: When you press this button, the Inventory List will show Non-Mecha items such as Energy Blades..."

Tek: To equip or unequip an item, simply select it from the Inventory List and press the Equip/Unequip Button.

«A text box points to the Equip/Unequip Button.»

"Equip/Unequip: Equips or Unequips the currently selected item in the Inventory List."

Tek: Item Descriptions appear in the Item Description Box when you select an item in the Inventory List.

«A text box points to the Item Description Box.»

"Item Description: Shows level, stats, and information about the currently selected item!"

Tek: If you are out of space and want to delete an item, you may press the Recycle Button...

«A text box points to the Recycle Button.»

"Recycle Button: CAUTION! Destroys the selected item! In most cases you will probably want to sell unwanted items at a shop!"

Tek: That's it! Now you know everything you need to know about Equipping your mecha!

    «Returns to initial screen.»
    How to Fight

Tek: Alright, «You»! Are you ready to learn how to fight?
  • Let's Go!

    «Menu Bar is displayed below Tek's face.»

Tek: Did you know that you can jump into a battle at any time with the Battle Button? Very convenient!

«A text box points to the "Battle!" button on the Menu Bar.»

"Battle Button: Press this button to jump into an instant battle! This is great for gaining experience quickly."

Tek: This is your Mecha Stats Bar. It shows your current Hitpoints (HP) and Energy (EP).

«A text box points to your Mecha Stats Bar.»

"Mecha Stats: Shows Hitpoints: Red Bar and Energy Points: Yellow Bar."

Tek: The red bar shows your Hitpoints. Careful! If this reaches zero, you will be automatically ejected from your mecha!
Tek: The yellow bar shows your Energy Points. Every time you fire a weapon it uses some Energy!
Tek: Careful! If you use up all your energy, you will have to skip a turn. Skipping turns is NOT good! Your enemy will defeat you if you skip too many turns.
Tek: Your Energy will regenerate a little each turn. The rate at which your energy regenerates is called Regen...
Tek: Some mecha models regenerate energy faster than others.
Tek: So, always keep HP, EP, and Regen in mind when you are choosing weapons for your mecha!
Tek: After you fire a weapon, it will need to Cool Down before it can be fired again. Cool Downs vary from weapon to weapon.
Tek: Weak weapons (like the Newbatron's default machine guns) might have very little or no Cool Downs.
Tek: On the other hand, very strong weapons (like Advanced Wolfblade's Berserk) might have long Cool Downs.
Tek: Careful! When you equip new weapons, you will need to be wary of Cool Down...
Tek: You won't want to have to skip turns while your weapons cool off...
Tek: When you are in a fight, you will be able to see your enemy's HP and EP on the opposite side of your own stats.

«A text box points to where your Enemy Stats Bar would be.»

"Enemy Stats (Battle Only): During battle, Enemy Hitpoints: Red Bar and Energy Points: Yellow Bar will appear here."

Tek: Okay! I think you know enough to start fighting. Want to try a simulated fight?
  • Let's Go!

      1 BATTLE: Shadowscythe Hound
      Full Heal

    «Skips to end; see below.»
    Special Battle Topics

Tek: Hey, «You»! Do you know about your Character Stats?
  • Let's Go!
Tek: You have certain permanent stats that affect your performance in battle.
Tek: They are Power, Accuracy, Reflex, Perception, Efficiency, and Luck.
Tek: You will learn more about these stats at GEARS University in Soluna City.
Tek: You can train your stats at Gears Mecha Piloting 101 when you get to Soluna City!
Tek: You will get at least 5 stat points per level. Star Captains get an extra stat point for a total of 6 per level!

«A text box appears on the left.»

"Did You Know? In addition to improved Weapons, Mecha models, and Starships (like this one), Star Captains also receive an extra stat point per level!"
  • Upgrade - Become a Star Captain

Tek: Extra stat points are a huge advantage, especially at higher levels!
Tek: You also have some Mecha Stats that may change during a fight...
Tek: They are Defense, Attack Bonus, Power Boost, Critical Chance, Dodge, and Hit.
Tek: In addition to these stats, you also have Resistance and Status Effects.
Tek: Resistance and Status effects may vary greatly, especially as you gain higher levels.
Tek: Here... Take a moment to get used to your Stat Screen. Click on the image of your face to open it...

«A text box points to the image of your face.»

"Character Stats: Click the image of your character to check your current stats."

Tek: Okay! Now, I'd like to tell you about Initiative and Battle Specials.
Tek: When a battle starts, the combatant with the higher Initiative takes the first shot.
Tek: Initiative is random for the most part, but it is affected slightly by your Luck and Reflex stats.
Tek: Keep in mind, having high Luck and Reflexes doesn't guarantee that you will always go first.
Tek: Since Initiative is random, the enemy will always have a chance to go first. However, Luck and Reflexes are a huge help!
Tek: Luck also affects your chance to perform a Critical Strike in combat!
Tek: Critical Strikes are direct hits that do double damage!! These are very brutal attacks...
Tek: Especially if you get a critical strike on top of an attack that is already dealing bonus damage...
Tek: One more thing... Sometimes during battle, you might see a message pop up like this...

    «"Fire Ignites!"»

Tek: This means that a Special Battle Effect has been activated!
Tek: Special Battle Effects vary greatly from random bad things, to special enhancements to your stats.
Tek: You can read descriptions of currently active effects listed under Resistances and Status on your Stat Screen.
Tek: Oh! You should come by my shop and pick up a Smokey Flame thrower!
Tek: It has a special effect that catches your enemy on fire! The enemy will take extra damage per round if you use it!
Tek: Okay! I think you know enough to start fighting. Want to try a simulated fight?
  • Let's Go!

      1 BATTLE: Shadowscythe Spyder
      Full Heal

    «Skips to end; see below.»
    Quest End:

Tek: Great Job! You are a great student, «You»! Now, you're ready to fight some real battles!
