Well hence why I suggested mood shifts. Could possibly fit with the theme and one's mindset can affect your debating competence.

lordkaho -> RE: (DF) The Boundless Power of Words Discussion (7/20/2012 19:18:37)

Okay let's see... Debates. Eternal Witches. Words of absolute magic that's distinguished by color...

Hiraku, is this perhaps inspired by Umineko No Naku Koro Ni?

You cannot say 'no'.

>:)

Glais -> RE: (DF) The Boundless Power of Words Discussion (7/20/2012 19:25:28)

I was greatly reminded of Umineko as well, though I'm not particularly a fan of those types of series.

Hiraku Tatlin -> RE: (DF) The Boundless Power of Words Discussion (7/21/2012 22:13:01)

I'm glad someone noticed my inspiration for this story. Just for you, I'll give you a gift of red truth: One of the many sources of inspiration I had in making this story was Umineko, but it is not the only one :D.

The story was enjoyable, but I was intrigued by the 'word-play' battles the characters had and wanted to explore that concept in a tale of my own with a dragonfable subtext.

The types of magic in this tale were influenced by Umineko, especially the earth-based one, but it has its own restrictions and usefulness that is focused on history instead of truth.

As for this story, I'm still trying to develop some more ideas for this chapter, but I'm also contemplating if I should transfer them to a possible rpg in these forums instead.

Hiraku Tatlin -> RE: (DF) The Boundless Power of Words Discussion (7/22/2012 20:26:15)

I've added a continuation of the Witch's Intermission. I have some ideas how the next chapter and a new element of magic will be applied in the story while making some parallels to certain places in Dragonfable as well. The setting will be in Oaklore, so let's see if you can figure out the connections when I introduce the third chapter :).

Asha's empty eyes only helped to enforce this possibility, being filled with nothing but the temporary amusement she could find from a grim tales.

Either "a grim tale" or "grim tales".

It's interesting to see how this story includes the out-of-person sagas.

Hiraku Tatlin -> RE: (DF) The Boundless Power of Words Discussion (7/23/2012 20:42:50)

The third chapter has began, and a 'new' person has been added as part of Asha's agreement with the Hero. If she has any similarities with a certain someone, remember that the Witch of Tragic Endings is starting to have an affect on the story itself for better or for worse. How will she affect the rest of the story, and how will the other Witch react? We'll see as the tale continues.

Glais -> RE: (DF) The Boundless Power of Words Discussion (7/23/2012 23:15:32)

Quite a...bizarre ending. I have no idea what's going on honestly.

Hiraku Tatlin -> RE: (DF) The Boundless Power of Words Discussion (7/24/2012 7:29:21)

If you need any clarification on the story, please don't hesitate to let me know. I can readjust the story accordingly so it makes more sense, or at least smooth out the flow of events. Are you referring
to the Witch's intermission? Or the latest entry. Either way, I appreciate any advise to improve the story.

Even the people who were invited into the tower were never found, but the strange part is that no evidence could be made that they even entered within the building itself. While the situation would seem complicated, recents events have helped to give her some possible leads. It would seem too much like a coincidence that a runaway noble, his servant, and a historian, a unusual group in itself, would arrive into town at exactly the same time that people started disappearing. The possibilities before her were endless: either they would help her find the true culprits, or they would waltz right into jail as the perpetrators with her help. She found herself starring at the door to the infirmary; all witnesses still inside. It almost seemed like fate itself was lending her <> gentle hand to her own personal mission. She couldn't help but laugh at how everything was coming into place.

spoiler:

From what I understand, Sir Prize is involved in a conspiracy and is holding the evidence behind the sealed door in Oaklore.

Of course, Oaklore isn't a town. It's a fortress (or keep) which is supposed to keep Falconreach safe.

Hiraku Tatlin -> RE: (DF) The Boundless Power of Words Discussion (7/24/2012 19:52:00)

Thank you for the grammar fixes. I have updated my posts accordingly, and adjusted the previous entry with more depth to give some more
insight on Alessa and her family.

Hiraku Tatlin -> RE: (DF) The Boundless Power of Words Discussion (9/10/2012 21:22:52)

Sorry for the wait guys! I've added a new entry. Yay for new plot and stuff!

I hope to introduce Alessa's unique style of lightning-oriented magic soon.

quote:

He thought of taking the nearest carriage to Falconreach and figure things out from there, but the floating sea creature that connected Oaklore to the town had attracted the attention of a bored Necromancer who had an obsession with giant fish…

So, does this mean the story plays around the time the hero of Falconreach was busy with fighting Sepulchure? That said, I wouldn't say the Hydra is floating. More like stuck with its head in the opening it smashed.

Hiraku Tatlin -> RE: (DF) The Boundless Power of Words Discussion (9/11/2012 17:30:54)

The story plays around the time after the Hero's confrontation with the super mega ultra planet-sized dragon. To say the exact time after that would hint too much on the hero's true circumstances in this story. If I get far enough in the story, I hope to be able to explain why the hero is where he is right now.

What does this...mean exactly?

But anyhow, more mysterious characters, starting to lose track.

So...it happens after Book 1, but possibly before Book 2...

It's an expression of a detective making a declaration of the culprit to a crime, but expressed in the story as a way of expressing Alessa's impatience to find the truth to things, like a detective does in solving a crime. The way I worded it might have been confusing, but that was my intention.

Hiraku Tatlin -> RE: (DF) The Boundless Power of Words Discussion (1/6/2013 22:22:19)

It took awhile, and a mean a long while, but I finally had the free time to sit down and add a new entry to the story. As always, any advise to improve the logical flow of the story is appreciated. As a extra treat, I have the next chapter teaser for preview:

quote:

Lucas was not sure how to approach the unusual events unfolding in front of him. Until the strange girl and her caped friends appeared, he was looking forward to making travel preparations. He wasn’t too familiar with what to bring, so he followed Clara to visit Sir Loin for some tips and assistance. He hated to admit it, but he respected the man and his life-long wisdom in having dealt in similar experiences in traveling the vast world of Lore. To his dismay, he was disappointed that the man did not have any steak available to purchase, but mentioning it brought a strange reaction from the knight himself. Wanting to keep the peace, and not wanting to sound ungrateful after all his help, he kept quiet on the subject. I’ll just have to find that savoury meat elsewhere. I’m sure to find it in the next town I visit.

Dwelling Dragonlord -> RE: (DF) The Boundless Power of Words Discussion (1/7/2013 11:41:27)

@Hiraku Tatlin: Most interesting new chapter, you nearly had me worried that you had abadoned this work of yours.

This book, along with my magic, will reveal it.

Silly woman, darkness conceals things.

Glais -> RE: (DF) The Boundless Power of Words Discussion (1/11/2013 5:06:08)

I don't really know how to explain this except for
That felt very anime

Hiraku Tatlin -> RE: (DF) The Boundless Power of Words Discussion (1/11/2013 10:00:14)

A new entry has been added for briefly discuss Alessa's and her cohort's magic. This was harder to introduce than the other branches of magic I added in the story, so hearing your thoughts on its execution would be very helpful to me.

So if I understand this correctly, they can use items that are connected to a person in some way to make them answer to that item's beckoning (like energy flows and connects particles)?

Hiraku Tatlin -> RE: (DF) The Boundless Power of Words Discussion (1/11/2013 12:50:54)

That is very close to what I had in mine. A user of this magic can make their arguments by combining their logic, magic, and an item relevant to their dispute to fight in a battle of wits with another individual. This results in the combination of the three creating a magically-charged challenge towards their target that forces them to answer. If they can't, it grants the user the ability to restrict their target depending to the strength of their magical ability. It can range from a temporary 'body paralysis' to 'compulsion to do a morally righteous act' regardless of the target's say on the matter.
